Welsh camp sites to close from Friday

Oh, and the company owner does not belive the virus is serious and the current guidelines and advice are political.
I give up.
Sadly you may have to in that case ... but you could have a good case for constructive dismissal [if you get written evidence]... but that doesn't pay the bills

Oh yes, but that's not apparently acceptable.
The company wants a physical face to face conversation so we can see what stock holding or competitors products are on show or being bought, or what lines they may be short of from our ranges.
it sounds like we have very similar jobs. I also have the same worries as you and a boss who lives with his head in the sand . You have been very brave to make some of the posts in this thread . I really do understand how you feel .

I don't know whether you have explored the Health and Safety approach to the problem, but that is fundamentally at the centre of your issue with your employer. Have you seen their COVID risk assessment, and more specifically asked for an explanation of how it applies to your role?
This link takes you to a generic form of COVID risk assessment that shows the hazards and risks that need to be considered.
<Broken link removed>
In your particular case, one of the main risks I would have expected to be considered is that you are asymptomatic but carry the virus to several companies in the course of your visits for further transmission to their workforce.
I have not seen or been given a risk assessment and as a company we are failing on so many areas in these documents.
Thank you for the heads up on these.

I have today been sent an email, outlining the company position and my concerns.
Dialogue may perhaps continue, but the options to me are:
Carry on with my job and continue to visit customers as instructed but follow guidelines as issued by the company (?) OR
Don't visit customers at their sites leading to disciplinary procedures due to lack of performance. OR
Take a reduced hours role seperat to my sales role and which would be dependant on the companies requirement at the time if such a requirement was needed OR
Resign from the company, but with additional links to the company on an ad-hoc basis.
Any ideas.?
I am bewildered, demoralised, disappointed and down today, but I have come to see the true colours of who I " currently" work for! And what human life is worth.
Oh, and the company know this fact, but I have not used this as an excuse at any time until Yesterday when I reminded them of exactly why I am concerned, but I am Type 2 diabetic and have been for the last 2 years and am therefore categorised as Extremely Clinically vunarable according to gov. UK guidance, for catching this virus, so must take extra extra precautions.
Hence my request to work further, for now, from home.
There silence has been deafening.

Sounds like the basis of constructive dismissal if you resigned.

It's happening everywhere, companies not taking this seriously. Back in March i was working as a shopfitting contracts manager, with all work in London, Factory way up the A1, As a type 2 diabetic, i asked to work from home and also not to go to London, I could do my job over the phone with site managers, but was told that i had to go into office, they then brought all London managers up to factory, to explain their Covid strategy,
Within 2 weeks i was very ill, when Sue told them how ill i was and that i believed i had got Covid due to their actions & negligence, along with 4 others who were also ill, i was made redundant on the day i went into hospital.
I had been there for only 6 months so was told that due to downturn in business due to Covid, i was no longer required.
Smaller privately owned companies seem to be the worst for this type behaviour.
No chance of getting another job, so just having to cope with the situation
Just thankful that i have Sue to help me get over this, it will be a long slow recovery i am told.
Stay safe my friend, there is life after work, and a dose of this virus does change your outlook on what is important.

Getting proper legal advice is essential before you make any moves - do you perhaps have legal cover with any of your insurance policies. I get the impression the business isn't unionised.

Your diabetes might lend weight to any claim, as an employer must make reasonable provision under the disability discrimination act.

This is all well & good in theory... but of course in the real world, especially in a SME, taking on the boss legally is, at best, likely to make the working environment fraught.
And of course, the boss [owner?] will be under his own stresses in the current climate, maybe just keeping the business afloat.

You perhaps need to take some time, to consider your options, in the cold light of day.
Unless you have a special skillset, job opportunities might be hard to come by in the immediate future.
But equally, it could be a chance to get off the hamster wheel, and do something you've always wanted to.

My sister did something like this - left a decent career, and went back to full time study for a different direction. Because of the potential effect on the family finances, she involved her whole family in the decision making process..

Thank you very much for that sound advice.
Yes, non unionised, but I am in a union, which I joined privatley

You are quite right, non unionised company of SME type, and I don't wish them or the rest of the workforce harm.
I just wish them to take this seriously.
A few weeks working safer from home must surely be seen as me thinking about my safety and that of the company, and my position going forward and the company plans for the next year and beyond.
I do have a fairly specialised skill set in a specialist market and am the only one with detailed knowledge and experience of certain of our products.
I am involving my family in any decisions, but right now I am very confused and to be honest, angry and disappointed.
I dont want a fight or to go down any legal or union routes unless I really have to, just to stand up for what's right and more importantly, safe, for myself, and our customers.
I am going to speak with certain people and look at my finances, and quickly, as one option might be to retire, (still got 8 years to go to state aid) and take some of my private pension and follow a completely different part time path.
I am very grateful of your considered advice and compassionate and clear understanding of my situation, and I also wish you well on your future plans.

I don’t know anything about the legal side of things with your job etc but I think your doing the right thing in putting yours and others safety first and I think you have good grounds against them if they get rid of you. They are being very unreasonable. Good luck with whatever you do.

Could they not furlough you (the new type). They would only pay a third of your salary. Or is it commission based. At this point for me I wouldn't get rid of any staff.

England won’t be far behind doing the same, a friend has had info from a police officer in our area he knows that they have been told all holidays are cancelled/cannot be booked during half term week and the following week.
Just a heads up The Ministry of Defence have been told to be on standby for complete UK lockdown as of Sunday evening at 6pm... No one is to leave their home's unless you work in Front Line Retail or the NHS...

I heard this directly from my neighbour Trigger who is best friends with a guy called Boycey. Boycey knows a guy named Del who drinks down the pub with his uncle Albert. Albert was in the Navy during the war so knows his stuff.

Please pass it on.:giggle::giggle::giggle:

I know this to be true as the fairies at the bottom of my garden told me the same thing - and they are never wrong...... 🙂

As a scientist, I follow the rules of hands, face and space. As a motorhomer, travelling and essentially living in my own vehicle, I would be very unlikely to catch or spread Covid-19 as I observe the simple rules and spend the majority of my time outdoors where there is virtually zero possibility of transmission of the virus. I am currently in Tenerife and I am so pleased that our Government is now following the science and I no longer have to self isolate for 14 days on my return. Just follow the simple rules and there is no risk.

Based on the likes of above of which we follow we have decided to have a few days in The Lake District.
Booked 3 nights at Park Foot Holiday Park from Monday.
Any one been???? what can we expect???

I was in Wales this summer, I had thought their rules were more onerous than England but their was no requirement to wear facemasks in shops which was a surprise. I now read that in their lockdown clothes are not considered essential and cannot be sold , crazy times.

Just back from Hunstanton Norfolk where everyone I saw adhered to the rules, masks, distance etc. What is important is to be sensible and look after yourself and others, personally I shopped locally but cooked and lived in the MH keeping myself and family as safe as possible. Loved the Sealife Centre.........

PS I always travel with a nearly full water tank just in case

Absolutely crazy here at home in Wales

You can wake up in the morning, walk to the shop and buy fags, a scratchcard and a bottle of vodka. Go home, drink, smoke and gamble. This is classed as essential.

You cannot go out, get a bible, a baby's dummy and a clean pair of socks preventing you praying whilst your baby settles down and you look after your feet. This is banned
