Good morning
I’m in Southport and I intend to visit Liverpool tomorrow before moving into Cheshire
Are there park and rides or , if not a coach park close into the centre
I have a dog so I can’t go into any buildings of interest so I need maybe 4/5 hours
Best wishes
Chris

Can you overnight there ?
Phil
No, we stayed on seafront at New Brighton
We stayed on the bit ringed and backed up over the grass verge but if you are very large I would ring first.. There are gates to the overflow carpark that you can see newly tarmaced, you might have to ask to have them opened but you can see a longer van in there.
Seacombe terminal has a large 200-space car park, which is free of charge. Coach parking is available at Seacombe terminal. Please call 0151 330 1420 or email groups@merseyferries.co.uk for more information. Merseytravel's Journey Planner is a quick tool to help you find a range of travel options, times and maps.

It is a commonly known fact that Red Bull F1 pit crew are only recruited from L20 or L4 post codes :imoutahere:, not sure that they care what colour (Red or Blue) though. ;)

Cheers
Red.

Some not so good suggestions.

As a local, and given your present location, this is what I would do.

Liverpool is such a compact, walkable city, with the best rail network outside London, that there are better alternatives than driving into the city, and paying.

There are two free railway carparks at Crosby (about a 15 minute drive from Southport down the A565). Park up and take the 20 minute train into central Liverpool.

There are also places were you could park for free overnight in Crosby, after you've enjoyed the fantastic beach on your return from your day-trip to Liverpool.

I did a guide here. (no need to go to the Marina !)

If your going to use the tunnels to get to Cheshire note the Queensway tunnel has a 3.5t limit 👍
But the Kingsway Tunnel ("New Tunnel") doesn't have a restriction. I brought my 6 tonne van through it last month.

Straight out on to the M53 and connections to North Wales, Shropshire and Cheshire...

Don’t forget your bricks 🧱 :rolleyes::wasntme::giggler:
There's always one.

You will meet the friendliest people in Liverpool , the city isn't anything like the stereotype the rest of the country perceives it to be.

2020 car theft data shows Merseyside as not even in the top 10 for car theft

There is a height barrier at Crosby train station that is not always in use, I will nip round after to have a look.

If you do go from Crosby say hello to the nice lady in the ticket office it's Swmbo!

Hall rd station does not have height restrictions that i can see.

As I said in earlier post if staying in Southport tonight get the train from there, no need to move the van.

I'm sure the return ticket on the train is like a day rover that allows travel on entire Merseyside network including the wirral.

All area saver @ £5.60 is the ticket to get if going for a train explore.
Network rail control the hight barrier so park on the road if going from Crosby.

This is a well timed thread for me, we are heading to Southport later today for a few days and have Liverpool trip in mind, with the 2 dogs in tow. So useful info re the train, and that dogs can go on trains etc.

oddly although we live in West Yorkshire and therefore not far away, neither of us have ever been to Liverpool and I don’t know why!

If you fancy something different check out the secret venues for a nice drink. Should be info on line. Or have a drink in the old cells at the Bridewell, just at the bottom of Hanover Street in Campbell Square. Nice Italian restaurant near the entrance.

There's no height restriction at Hall Road car park, and the last time I looked the height bar at Blundellsands was open. The stations are less than a mile apart, via Merrilocks Road.

I showed some people from Kent what to do a few months ago. They parked at Hall Rd, jumped the train into Liverpool, and stayed overnight in one of the roads I mentioned in the guide. The car-park at the bottom of Mariners Road, opposite the leisure centre might be even better. They had a great time on the beach too... Took a bit of the Liverpool Blitz rubble home with them as a memento!

Yes, they are, and include the ferries. You can get as far as Chester on the Merseyrail network.

Liverpool, after all, is the home of the railways. Everything London's got, railway-wise, Liverpool had first.

Two weeks ago, the Sunday Times did a match-up between Manchester and Liverpool.

The Liverpool Mayor said: "The only people who slag-off Liverpool were either last there in the 1980s - or have never been there at all..."

The following week, the letters page was unanimous that Liverpool was the best city of the two. [I like Manchester too, btw (y) ]

Liverpool has also been named by the Sunday Times, in recent years, in its "Best Places to Live Guide", along with some of its commuter towns, like Crosby.

they didnt visit Kensington then.
All cities have good and bad spots, Liverpool is no worse or better than most major cities /sea ports.

If you go on a Saturday - you can spend at least 4/5 hours in the town centre, watching marauding groups of lasses on hen-night weekends.
But seriously, (Liverpool is my home town) - the walk along the Mersey from the Pierhead to Otterspool and back is delightful.

Go by train from Southport, then use the underground and get off at James Street Station. From there it's a short walk to the River.

Enjoy!

It's a great idea although you can't walk right along to Otterspool any longer and you need to change trains at either Moorfields or Central to get to St James Street.

Chris63, best look on here and you can bring up the both the Northern Line and Wirral Line.

I like visiting Liverpool. Usually via the motorway & main roads but once via a cruise ship. That docked close to the Liver building & was very convenient.

The thing that makes me smile often - and as I type this - is there’s a shopping centre called LIVERPOOL ONE
So Everton FC have put their other, second merchandise store in there and called it EVERTON TWO
😆
