Update on Importing

Lenny would you mind saying who your Belgian dealer is please? We've also used a dealer for private import back in 2015 but they don't seem so keen to bother since Jan this year.
Campirama, only sell Hymer & Carado.

Lenny HB

May I ask why not Lennie?
Prefer driving LHD as of the 8000—9000 miles we do in the Motorhome only about 1000 of them are in the UK.
Also you can sell or trade a LHD in any country RHD drive you are stuck with the UK where trade in prices are often a lot lower.

Thanks that's brilliant - we use Campirama too. Bought the T334 there in 2015 but when we met Sebastien a few weeks ago (want to change to V132) he was non-committal about VAT status and whether any othe rpart of the process had changed. Maybe I need to give him a call and put his mind to rest, it doesn't seem that different to me.

VAT is no different on new vehicles the only thing that might cause a problem is this thing about UK not reckonising European C of C.

Even on new vehicles you will have to pay the vat rate for the country your buying from and then the UK vat when importing so in affect you will be paying double vat we're as before you only paid one vat amount.

That's only if you are the end user, different if you are vat registered.

Not true I've spoke to my dealer he will still supply VAT free and as far as I know dealers that charge the VAT will refund it once UK VAT is paid.

You will pay 10% duty on the purchase price and VAT on the duty .

Incorrect there is no duty if buying from an EU country.

They must be the only company that can sell goods without paying vat, and it will be illegal if they don't and fraud if they don't declare the full value, I have just purchased a small item from Germany they charged their vat plus I had to pay UK vat on the "total" sum and a handling charge.

It is a thread about importing Motorhomes so totally irrelevant.
Sorry Lenny went a bit off topic 👍

Think the day of cheaper self imports is over now in my personal view just don't think it has the advantages it once did.

Lenny HB i got my Umwelt Plakette yesterday, and yes I had to produce my CoC with the V5 to prove euro5 status🤷‍♂️
I got both the Crit air and Umwelte from the official sources a couple of years ago without a CoC, I have never had one.

The lack of a CoC caused some delays when I matriculated the camper into Portugal earlier this year.

What we need is a guinea pig to test the system out and give us some feedback 🤔

Lenny! 🤣

Vehicles come I under different rules & regulations to ordinary goods.
With vehicles VAT is paid in the country of registration not the country of purchase.
The reason a lot of dealers charge you the VAT and then refund it is because they would be liable for VAT if you didn't pay it in the Country of registration.

Does this not mean if you have to declare vat you are vat registered, end user doesn't declare vat ?
If you are VAT registered the repayment would just sort itself out at your next 1/4 so the fact that they are saying to basically manually claim from the seller suggests to me that it is a non VAT registered person and the same as before B.

Just my take though;) incidentally I don't get the 10% duty thing as new van have not instantly gone up 10% at the dealers.

Sent off to that place in Berlin👍
€5.65👍
so did I .Just a scan of the reg doc that here has no info on it about emissions

No. Uk is non eu so they cannot charge it on an export, legally. As Lenny said the reason some do is they are liable for it if you do not pay in your country of origin.
Still tecnically illegal for them to charge it though but if you insist on them obeying the law & not charging then they will probably refuse to sell to you.

As above. With regards to your purchase that is illegal. Should either be sold
" with UK vat paid " as they are registered to collect it or as an export without vat as being sent to a nonEu country.

No .different rules for self import vehicles.

All right squad you have braid me into submission, so I pay 2 lots of vat and reclaim one back would be good if someone could come on here that's imported a new vehicle from a EU dealer not a EU manufacturer and give us first hand knowledge.

That is because it only applies to vehicles imported from outside of the EU
