Update on Importing

I would suggest we change over gradually
Starting with Wales, Scotland next? Then Cornwall ... one County at a time ... what could possibly go wrong?

If they can do it overnight:

"On Sunday, April 2, 1972, Nigeria ditched the British-styled right-hand drive to the left-hand drive common among the French, German, and Americans."

Most of them were driving down the middle anyway. Especially trucks. With one working headlight. :Eeek:

I left Nigeria in 1971 so I missed this changeover.

the UK could switch to driving on the right. Other countries did this change overnight without disastrous consequences.
Seriously, can you imagine what a completely perfect job this present government would make of that. Careful what you wish for. Don't give them ideas.

Would this effect used LHD imports.

I drive on both sides of the road in my camper normally anyway

Having just bought another LHD moho, I think it’s a Great idea to swap to t‘other side of the road😉😊😊😊

Is the current CoC ever needed to be produced in EU european countries, when visiting?

A extra layer of hassle importing new LHD motorhomes may make existing LHD UK registered vans more valuable.

I was looking at changing in 2022 for another LHD German import but I think I'll just hang on the Exsis and do a few mods instead.

Hopefully your theory is right..I mean left. 😆😉

Needs to be produced when obtaining Crit air or Umweltplakette🤷🏼‍♂️

Ahh, might be a bit of an issue, hopefully the civil service are up to speed with the EU . Otherwise going to be some irritated owners.

Up to speed with the EU lol like trying to keep up with a super fast bingo caller :drunk:

Chatting to our Belgium dealer last week and he tells me that from January 2022 a European Certificate of Conformity will no longer be recognised by the UK. He is well clued up on exporting so fairly certain his info will be correct.

I assume then if you import after January you will need an IVA test on the vehicle which will be a pain as there are only a few test centres in the country and usually with long waiting lists.
IVA’s can be a real pain for anything out of the ordinary. I have first hand experience. Luckily our VOSA is just up the motorway.

I heard they were going to privatise them?.

No it doesn't you only need the V5.
What with no emission class on? How do they know what euro status you are? I’m sure Tuv Sud asked for my CoC with emission status🤷‍♂️ But as usual I could be wrong😉😁

They go buy the year, only had the V5 when I got one from a car dealer and bought a couple on line just a scan of V5

Having just had a read of the IVA on gov website, I think that if i were to buy a motorhome from Belgium and import it and the same model in the same year has been approved then it is a paper exercise quoting the exact model that it relates to

One way of proving your vehicle is compliant is by showing it’s the same specification as another vehicle (a ‘master vehicle’) that’s been proved compliant. You do this using a model report.

If a model report has already been produced for your exact model of vehicle, you may be able to use it for a fee. Look for it on the DVSA list of model reports and their owners.

Edit: Unfortunately i ve just gone into the vehicles and there are no motorhomes on that list !

We probably won't change vans for a couple of years so hopefully it will have all settled down by then.
Probably won't be a Hymer which is where the biggest advantages are in importing so don't mind buying in the uk but it's got to be LHD, RHD A Class's don't make sense to me.

Hear, hear. (y)

Nothing to do with Brexit but I suggest a pragmatic solution to the upcoming MH import difficulties - the UK could switch to driving on the right. Other countries did this change overnight without disastrous consequences. The benefit would be lower new MH prices once the RHD premium is removed.
If we were to there is a great opportunity coming up.
The switch over to new electric cars in 2030. If all new EVs Sales from now were only left hand drive before we changed over in 2030 to Only EV new sales and at the same time driving in the right, sales of EVs would be boosted massively leading up to that date.
Can’t see any other reason to do it, but this is the best way to.

Interesting, why not a Hymer? Just being nosey as I thought Hymer was a class leading brand.

Cheers

Could you not just get an RHD with the optional extra?

It's even got all the steering wheel controls for cruise control, radio volume, etc. Colour matched to the exterior paint scheme, as well!
:whistle2::rofl::getmecoat:

I'd rather see the tax payers billions spent on better things. Pretty much every structure on the major road network would need to be replaced.

Don’t forget that Richie S will be wanting his ten percent duty and VAT Theron.

Lenny would you mind saying who your Belgian dealer is please? We've also used a dealer for private import back in 2015 but they don't seem so keen to bother since Jan this year.

I'm of the opinion that the newer you go in the 3500-4500 range the flimsier it's going to be, even for the better marques.
Yep, ours is 4500kg same flimsy furniture as the 3500kg ones.
