Up plating

So is this something that’s possible as an up plate ? Is that how they work out the max weight I thought it was a lot of high tech working out stuff .
It's likely to be possible to go to 3650 as a paper exercise but you need to get SV tech or VWE to confirm. But as my edit above says you may really need more allowance on the rear axle than 1900 but you will only know this by going to a weighbridge fully laden as others have said. I would do this first as only you know how you will load up your van.

SV Tech can uplate to 3650kg GVW as a paper exercise but they can't change the axle weights without adding extras
Well that’s so much better. I would rather update than risk running about. Sorry swanning about the countryside overweight and breaking the law .
anything over 3500 would be good.

Talk to Van Weight Engineering - they are good, offer excellent service and are cheaper and a lot more helpful than SVTech. Just my view

Totally agree here. He will tell you your options before you shell out any cash. Very efficient, quick ,helpful and cheap.

The trouble is that most coachbuilts struggle with the rear axle weight so any additional payload could only be added up front which is usually quite hard to do in practice

Yes decided I would do this post number #18. I am going to see the total weight I can get
then load up everything we would be taking and then the weigh bridge to see if it’s going to be enough.
I think we’re close to the plate weight now. At a rough guess.

I have as others mentioned to both companies were there any upgrades to suspension required
just to make sure everything is safe.

My coachbuilt went from 3500 to 4250 with just rear air assist added. 16 inch alloys were already standard. £600 for the Air assist and £160 for the paperwork. I feel that was good value. I carry a motor scooter in the rear.

Air assist that’s something I think I should look at. For the rear as they are just leaf springs.
also read they help with steadying the Moho in windy weather .

Wow £160 I just paid SV Tech £320 to go from 3500 to 4500 as a paper exercise my van has air bags on a heavy chassis that's half the price, to late now lol SV Tech were super fast though from first contact to getting paper work to send to DVLA and new plate 6 days 2 of which were Sat/Sun. One lives and learns aye

Does your Moho have the Heavy chassis with bigger brakes etc?

Replacement tyres 225/R15 /110 Will give you some increase, as will air assist on the back. It's a relatively easy upgrade on most Fiat chassis, and somebody will have posted up a video on youtube of how to do it. Kits available on EBAY.
Most vans have a problem getting to the axle limit on the front, and any upgrade will require much more serious engineering, and it's difficult to then exploit the increase.
Wait and see what Dee has to say.
I suspect your next thread will be about the best tyres to fit gain that extra bit on the back axle ;)
:giggle: Good luck.
Mike.

easy process if its just a paper exercise... until that is you factor in the ******* muppets at DVLA.

Up Plating was dead easy, registering it with dept of sheer incompetence is another matter. After 9 months of waiting for my log book from buying the van, after paying them another £25 to replace the one they never gave me in the first place, I now have the joy of doing it all over again and sending my log book back to DVLA for them to then lose it again/probably get it wrong (and probably charge me again for the privilege)

Thieving incompetent :mad:(n):swear::banghead:

I have now put the up plating on hold.

while I await the Air Suspension KIT with Compressor for the Moho.
when fitted I shall then go ahead with the up plating. I see no point in up plating now and then fitting the Air Suspension KIT with Compressor .

just have to decide now where to fit the filler and gauge .
as for the compressor well I am not worried about where to store it as I shall not be fixing it down.

so I guess I will be updating and up plating this thread Later.

Have you met the wife ?

I got a letter from Hymer to confirm the vehicle could take the extra weight (1 week turnaround) and filled in the documents myself. Easy job and new docs back from DVLA, with road fund rebate, in a couple of weeks. Couldn't have been quicker if I'd paid for it to be done.

Just had the estimate for up plating from 3400 to 3500 no additions
or

3400 to 3700 by adding air suspension so I will wait until I have fitted the air bags then have another go and see for sure what I will get.

No excuse not too, my front is 1930kg, rear 2300kg.
since it already cost me £25 to go in and out of my street another £36 in weighbridge fees and a six mile journey i see that as a good reason
yes you read that right £12.50 per weight

No problem I just press a button on the air suspension controller.

From 3400kg. To 3700kg. But must have air suspension bags to do it.

no other additions or alteration.

or 3400kg. To 3500 kg. As it stands. With no air bags

so the bags are due this week.

Did they say what the air bags allow the rear axle to go up to from the current 1900kg?

3700 – wt kg ; Axle 1 = 1750 kg ; Axle 2 = 2000 kg ALKO or with added rear air assist.

at the moment the front axle is rated 1750 kg. And the rear. 1900 kg.

Bags have arrived today. So looks like they could be fitted and completed mid next week
then we will load up water fuel spare fuel
and we should be able to work out the weight of anything we missed to add to the weight.

then book a weighbridge and see what the result is.

Get ready to be surprised.
Mike.

c'mon spill the beans - how heavy?
You don’t want to know, bloody carthagos:doh:
Let’s just say I’ll have to leave Mrs Westy at home when I set off for Croatia in June, in fact she’ll have to stay out of the van forever:whistle2:
