Flags? Who'd have em?

I think you’re right.

Where I live flags (particularly the Union Flag and St. George’s Cross) are associated with sectarianism and linked to the football teams too. In marching season in some of the villages you can see the flags draped out of almost every window in a street. They symbolise something altogether different from ‘national pride’.

This thread started off with a Q and has now turned , not for the better.... but I might as well ask.

I’ve heard of most but what’s this?

Sweaty Sock - Jock

Bit if the old self depreciation ;)

Your spot on there! Same as independence for MOST , and I've even seen it here on this thread....Which should be closed IMO since its gone way off topic and nothing to do with motorhome chat.

I hope boris goes full boris and we might waken up to the fact right wing racists aren’t actually the way forward. You obviously won’t agree with that but I can always dream. One day, maybe

Out of interest would you call the SNP right wing racists or left wing racists.

By definition of the word most SNP supporters would come under the banner.

Just interested ?

That’s an interesting answer considering some of the things you hear and read.
Suppose it depends what you read, I find Scotland and it’s people open and welcoming to all colours and creeds. I don’t support snp on all things but I can’t say I’ve ever heard any racist comments from them

Well, on one hand it has unleashed some vitriol which is, quite frankly, unpleasant.

On the other hand I have a rather nice new avatar which feels better.

For some of us, the union flag has unfortunate connotations of right wing extremism ... I think a number of posts on this thread show exactly why that is the case.

The irony is, I’d quite like to ask one poster the symbolism of their avatar, but wary of what It may unleash!

Each to their own. I respectfully asked for this not to happen.

I just thought my avatar shows my dogs and they’re Greek Cypriots, don’t want to confuse them. ;) But then I’m a simple soul who finds all politics and sabre rattling over nationalities too boring to take up my time.

I am declaring unilateral Independence for Ash Close in Thetford...
So far our flag is thus thereby keeping things neutral

But it has been pointed out we may be mistaken for an Italian enclave

I don't understand why at this difficult time JIm has chosen to plaster Union Flags all over the site and now stretching back into history. We are not allowed to discuss leaving the EU as it causes so much ill feeling and I agree with that. But look at the ill feeling this flag posting has caused.

I am not really interested in someones IP address, which will show where a few(very few)people live abroad. But they usually incorporate that into their posts. If you use a UK sim card it will show UK wherever you travel to.

If someone wants to proclaim their proud heritage they can incorporate a flag of their choice into their avatar, even if sadly it has been appropriated by right wing and football holligans whether you like it or not (think swastika, originally a Hindu good luck symbol.......that isn't what you would be saying if you incorporated into your avatar now is it ?)

Jim who are these people who think it is a great idea and why did you choose to do it at such a sensitive and divisive time for our society. Why not let people add a flag or tell us where they are .......if they want to. This calls for a referendum

I thought I had removed mine

All this willy waving over "my flag is better than yours" stinks of racism on both sides.
This is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The only flag that speaks of unity is The Union FLAG

The BEST flag. I’m out ??
