UK trip..sites to see, places to stay ?

They also give you a free full years membership card if you “after visiting the house” go to get an upgrade on your entrance fees. Great if you live or intend visiting the area again.
Thanks for that... Good info :-)

Theobalds Park, 30 mins walk to Turkey St. overground then change at Severn Sisters to tube or stay on to Liverpool St.
Cracking pub with good food less than 15 mins walk.
Yeeerrrrrr, but it is still London !! LOL!!

We went to york last year and stayed at the Naburn Lock caravan park, really nice site and owners.

From the site it's only a 100 yards or so walk to the lock on the river where you can jump on the riverbus which drops you off in the centre of York so on hassle with parking plus the journey on the river was delightful.

A visit to the National Train Museum will take the best part of a day to look around. We found the store rooms full of the items not in the main display to be fascinating.

Also if your a member of theCCC they have a THS on the Rugby and cricket club several time a year, during the summer for a couple of months which is cheap and nice walk into the city. Certainly one of my favourite cities.

We are staying at the C&CC site at Devizes next month. There is quite a lot to see and do in the area. This is from the site description :

The campsite is between to the Avon and Kennet Canal and the Three magpies pub! You can walk or cycle into Devizes from the campsite via the spectacular Caen Hill flight of 29 locks or catch a bus from the stop a five minute walk from the site. Buses also operate to Melksham, Bath and Bristol from here. If you're feeling less energetic the pub is very pleasant, serving good meals.

Devizes is an interesting, historic town and has weekly general and collectors' markets and a regular farmers' market. Wadworth's Brewery is here. Tours of the brewery and stables can be booked at the Visitor Centre. Also in the town is the Wiltshire Heritage Museum where you'll find Britain’s best Bronze Age archaeology collections. The Kennet and Avon Canal Trust Museum alongside the canal is where you’ll discover the fascinating story of this delightful waterway.
Walking and pubs.. You don't know me well do you LOL!!
Walking ... god would not have invented wheels if he meant us to walk :-)
But the Wiltshire museum is now added to the list as is the canal museum ! Cheers.............

We tried being a member of CCC for a few years but found the benefits ( for us ) was not enough to warrant the cost.. Might rejoin if it looks like more time in the UK in future though

If moving about in uk then, I for us, it is certainly worth the cost. Their THS network throughout the year is quite extensive. CMC also do THS but have to pre book. For most rallies just turn up on CCC THS.

CMC are for us THE most hateful organisation in the motorhome world... I rate them along with pick pockets and dictators !

CCC are diametrically opposite.. Wardens always kind and helpful, sites always nice.. even the CL network knocks spots off the other lot..

But we do not particularly like being on sites usually so simply rarely use them.. If we did feel the need again it would def. be CCC though :-)

Odd how we have found the complete opposite, though we accept you can run into those little hitler types anywhere, some of our fellow touring campers have opened our eyes with the most selfish of actions.

I guess it's down to luck who you get as your neighbour, the people around you during those days and wether the people running the site are in a good mood or not.
I refuse to call them wardens, I don't go to a prison for my holidays and can't for the life of me think why any organisation that is in the tourist trade would come up with such a title.

Ahh... but that is exactly how I have felt the ( very ) few times I used them when we were members..
But as you say, I suppose it is luck at the end of the day :-)

There is not many places I have not been to be honest... Scottish highlands and up, to Plymouth and around...
Done most of the Lochs too :)
That is the problem with years of long distance dispatch work !
Do not want scenery so much as places of interest

Lovely area and we will be there or there abouts for a while, but for both of us scenery is not top of the list.. one rock is much the same as another, and one beach is the same as a lot of beaches :)

Just thought of another place as an example to help.... Saltburn,. just to ride the funicular
You need to go to Saltburn just to find out that the Cliff lift is not a funicular,

OK is is balanced by water tanks and then brake controlled, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saltburn_Cliff_Lift

Then pop along the coast to Whitby I know they don't really want you there but as you are so close it's a must to ride the steam train to pickering.

Northumberland is lovely. Plenty of beaches to walk on fabulous scenery .

and history.

It depends on your interests as well. If you like heritage railways Norfolk . Suffolk is good. For castles you might want Wales or the Scottish Borders.

If you liked Beamish you might enjoy New Lanark

Or go gold panning - there are a few places you can have a go :)

I fancy a week in Helmsdale, prospecting and visiting museums and the clearance villages in the area.

If you've never been to the Falkirk Wheel and The Kelpies that is worth a day (you can stay at The Wheel, think it is or was £15 a night).

Cheers for that.. impossible to tell from the only picture I have.. but a balanced system is even more interesting ! :)
And yes, have added Whitby to the list too :)

We have done the rail system around here.. I quite like to pop in on the various North Norfolk stations when out on the bike too

New Lanark sounds good... will google it and get the lowdown..

Done the Falkirk Wheel but it is a good place to stop for the night, and to be fair we have never done a boat ride from it, so yet another on the list !
Thank you.....

Alnwick Castle and Gardens, there is also a newish heritage railway near Alnwick. Cragside near Rothbury, first domestic house lit by electric light, fascinating hydroelectric system :)

Miniature railway on the Ford and Etal Estate.

That first house at Cragside is already on the list :-) But it has been on the list before and we keep missing it somehow.. Will have to try harder !

It’s sort of London but the C&CC club site in Chertsey is nice.

Lovely walk down to Teddington Lock ( I think that’s what its called) along the banks of the Thames and a nice pub to get stuck in .

Poole chain link ferry across to Studland Bay, I'm told that the nudes in the sand dunes are a sight to behold:xwink:....if that don't work for you then Portsmouth is just up the road, The Mary Rose is worth a visit, then you have the Victory and if you are very lucky then you might catch sight of the new Aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizaberth with it's fighter jets on board.:xThumb: The New Forest can be a good base for a tour of the area...
The sandbanks chain ferry is not operational at the moment and there is no date yet for it to come back into service.

Now all the offers are in a quick addition says it would be far cheaper to go the much shorter journey to Spain or Italy and be sure of decent weather.

Been to a other workhouse sites.. Really interesting so that is now on the list :)

My son in law is from Chatham and the docks have long een on the list. Timely reminder for me ! Cheers !!

Have not been on the Victory for YEARS, so that will go on the list, and have ached to visit the Mary Rose for years... Cheers Buttons :)

Sounds interesting.. Never been to a working coal mine, so on the list it has gone !

Been a couple of times and enjoyed it, so on the list !

Great info that.. Thank you !!
There are very often bargain tickets (50% off) on groupon to both Victory and the Mary Rose. I think they list it as historic portsmouth.

I don’t think so the traffic from the ferry doesn’t pass Harry’s house. ;-)
