How about staying in Southport, train into Liverpool, Albert Dock - the Tate, mersey ferry, Manchester ship canal, museums, art galleries, best not mention the pubs! Except for the Panoramic Bar  list is too long to mention.

If that’s behind .. old Zoo or nowadays theme park... Not closed down... as yet... no signage last time I was there... and purposely looked - as it’s my home at times...

It was Boxing day that I walked passed last... (out wi family) see front fresh air..

However, the car park was brimming - with cars...

Also... there is a little know “park-up” at the Wonderland end...

Gated.. (you get a key).. £10 per night...

Def worth a look that one.... ta :-)

Kings Parade, Public toilet within hundred yards. Maritime Museum Kings Dock not to be missed along with The Cavern and a whole host of other attractions too many to name. Don't though discard Chester if you want to get to the Heart look at The little Roodee Car park very modest charges and within 10 minutes walk of the city centre whilst parked on the banks of the beautiful River Dee.View attachment 274955

Another really good idea.. I was 2nd camera man on a shoot there around the early 90's.. But they kept all the crew more or less penned up.. Was itching to take the tour, but moved on to another location before it happened.. so yup, another for the list :-)

Some of that sounds awsome !! Thank you ................All on the list !
We have about 6 weeks to fill so all suggestions will proly be visited :-)
Keep em coming folks !

If you're thinking of heading west towards Ironbridge there is the RAF museum at RAF Cosford on the way.
It's a free museum, you just have to pay for parking, and you could easily fill a day there. The Cold War section is excellent.
Plenty of sites and CL's around the area but we always used Crossroads Farm CL when we were working at Cosford for the airshows. Nice rural farm CL about 15 minutes north.

Richard.

Join the National Trust.
These days we set off to an area where there's a monster stately home. Have a day there and move on to the next one thats nearby.
We wild camp where we can and every day is a new house and a different adventure. The NT map decides the direction we go in but there can be loads of other places and things to see along the way. It even works in Scotland and that's FOC if you are a member.

Hey @Jaws John, glad you asked the question we will be staying in the UK this year given us some ideas like you seen and done so much of it but still I interested in doing more, we are thinking of around Somerset a bit Wells Glastonbury Longleat but destinations can always change. Hopefully catc6up with you and Mo on the road, and Happy New year.to you both

Tram Museum at Crich.
Black Country Museum at Dudley.
I second the Ironbridge Gorge.
Caister Castle Museum - transport (mainly cars) but an unexpected bonus at the end of a fantastic display of the family china, porcelain etc collected over centuries.
Not far away from Caister is Bressington Gardens - not only you ubiquitous garden centre - also has a steam railway and steam merry go round.
Bowes Museum at Barnard Castle - the one with the swan automaton eating the fishes, all in solid silver. Not actually managed to get there yet but we're determined to!
Beamish Museum - same as the Bowes - Jenny really fances going there.
Another NT property with an fascinating automaton Pagoda clock - can't think where that is offhand.
All these places have things for both of you.
Compton Acres gardens - uphill towards Bournemouth from Poole Harbour, and whilst you're that neat Sandbanks you ought to take a boat trip and have a look round Brownsea Island, end of May-ish is a good time for Compton Acres because of the fantastic azalea and rhododendron displays. Includes a Japanese water garden too plus plus.
There's a working slate mine - Llechwedd in North Wales.

All the places are in random locations in England and Wales - but wherever we go, we (Well - Jenny!) pick up tourist info and visit whatever we just happen to fancy - or, like Llechwedd - just saw the signpost and wondered if it was interesting, so we went and were very pleased we had!

Caister Castle was just a mega surprise - we knew there was a castle OK but it was like October and not very warm, and just didn't know anything about the museum. During the New Year holiday we were on a rally and a couple from quite near us were there and telling people about how fantastic Coventry Transport museum is. Jen was quite disappointed really because a lot of the exhibits had things like overspray on the window/windscreen rubbers or a patch of two of orange peel effect paintwork where they'd blown in a repaired area and not bothered to use the cutting paste and buffer afterwards - either incompetence or laziness - although it is indeed a good display of different vehicles. Caister OTOH - she had no complaints!

No probs mate.. :-)
I have been travelling on one mode of transport or other for many many years and have seen more than enough beaches, quiet spots, hills and lakes to fill mt breeches !
I appreciate you input any way :-)

Jenny is right to want to do Beamish.. We had a fantastic couple of days there :-)

York is a nice city to visit, plenty to see.

Ripon workhouse museum, Harrogate spa and town, Leeds,

can you tell I'm a yorkshireman?

If ( IF ) we do stay in the UK this year, I am looking for suggestions..
Location does not matter but we are discounting Ireland this year ) as this wee isle is just too wee to worry about it !
An example ...... I would like to go back to Cardiff and take in the Dr Who exhibition...
Sooooo.. Sights to see and things to do..
Where would the panel suggest ?
Poole chain link ferry across to Studland Bay, I'm told that the nudes in the sand dunes are a sight to behold:xwink:....if that don't work for you then Portsmouth is just up the road, The Mary Rose is worth a visit, then you have the Victory and if you are very lucky then you might catch sight of the new Aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizaberth with it's fighter jets on board.:xThumb: The New Forest can be a good base for a tour of the area...

Stayed there before.. thought they had stopped it for vans now... if not, then great stuff ! Cheers :)
Stayed there 4 days ago no problems. Park inside marina gates and put £15 in machine in car park.

We are ex-pat Londoners !
Could not wait to escape :)
I was dragged to all the places like St Pauls, The Mall, Tower of London, Trafalgar, Hampton Court and more recently the London Eye, madame tussauds ( the new exhibition ) etc etc..

Apart from the living museum at Beamish, are there other places similar ? We have enjoyed our visits there :)

We went to york last year and stayed at the Naburn Lock caravan park, really nice site and owners.

From the site it's only a 100 yards or so walk to the lock on the river where you can jump on the riverbus which drops you off in the centre of York so on hassle with parking plus the journey on the river was delightful.

A visit to the National Train Museum will take the best part of a day to look around. We found the store rooms full of the items not in the main display to be fascinating.

Great info that.. Thank you !!

When I put it all together and work out the route I will post it up on here.. But it proly will not be until April............

We are staying at the C&CC site at Devizes next month. There is quite a lot to see and do in the area. This is from the site description :

The campsite is between to the Avon and Kennet Canal and the Three magpies pub! You can walk or cycle into Devizes from the campsite via the spectacular Caen Hill flight of 29 locks or catch a bus from the stop a five minute walk from the site. Buses also operate to Melksham, Bath and Bristol from here. If you're feeling less energetic the pub is very pleasant, serving good meals.

Devizes is an interesting, historic town and has weekly general and collectors' markets and a regular farmers' market. Wadworth's Brewery is here. Tours of the brewery and stables can be booked at the Visitor Centre. Also in the town is the Wiltshire Heritage Museum where you'll find Britain’s best Bronze Age archaeology collections. The Kennet and Avon Canal Trust Museum alongside the canal is where you’ll discover the fascinating story of this delightful waterway.

London? Only snag would be finding a site near a railway station with room. Most seem booked up far ahead.

Theobalds Park, 30 mins walk to Turkey St. overground then change at Severn Sisters to tube or stay on to Liverpool St.
Cracking pub with good food less than 15 mins walk.

They also give you a free full years membership card if you “after visiting the house” go to get an upgrade on your entrance fees. Great if you live or intend visiting the area again.
