Tyres ... Unsure what's best

Further to the below:
They are all Agilis including the spare. We don't actually need 4 at the moment as the rears still have a couple of years left in them. They have a 7 year lifespan (minimum) so doesn't look like age will be an issue and we'll wear them all out before they get to that anyway.

Hubby has 'declared' that he's going to have the spare put on the front (alloy) plus a new matched one and having one of the existing front ones (whichever is best) put on the spare (steel) wheel. This should give us a couple of years minimum before we need to look at it again ... unless sod's law means we have a blooming blow out!

Thanks for all the input guys, very interesting and I'll keep this thread bookmarked for future reference.
Unfortunately that didn't happen ... couldn't get hold of another new one to put on the front and as the tread was still good (it was more than the 2mm he'd told me previously!) we went away with it as it was, it was find, no slippage etc, however now, just over 3,000 miles later, they will definitely need doing before our next jaunt.

I keep missing out on unused Agilis Camping tyres the same as our existing one - there are some but at nearly £300 a go with fitting etc it's stupid money!. There are some part used ones with good tread levels on Ebay but the DOTs are as early as 2008 , although hubby is currently negotiating with one seller for a new one but even that would be around £170 once fitted.

We might have no option but to go the whole hog and fit new ones all round + spare. We've considered the Toyo Observer ones that Lenny HB fitted but we don't actually need winter tyres and the reviews aren't that good for stopping etc however the Toyo NanoEnergy Van ones which are summer tyres seem to have better ratings so we're considering them instead:

Our local tyre fitter place will do the Nano ones for £104 fitted, with a discount for 4 so less than £400 fitted, the spare though would be at full price as the tyre supplier only give the discount on 'batches' of 4, not a deal breaker though so just over £500 for 5 new tyres is a no brainer compared to nearly £300 for one and even if we got an Agilis at £170 it'd still cost another £50 to get the others swapped round, so around £220. Whether this is false economy is the issue as we'd then be in the situation again in a 2-3 years time when the rear ones would definitely need replacing ... then the merrygoround would start again.

What's the general consensus on the NanoEnergy Van tyres?

Might be worth asking Mork 😊

Sorry just couldn’t resist 😊

I declare my dislike of Michelin CP tyres and my liking of Continental. I offer no further view, as there are too many varying opinions about tyres on here.
But, whatever you decide on Minxy, get an online quote, printed off and take it to Gary at Savoy in Willerby and ask if he can beat it.
I saved about £10 per tyre when I got our 4seasons.

Anything is better than the dreadful Michelin Camping tyres.

What's your view of the Nano ones?
No experience of them but generally Toyo are good tyres I have been pleased with the Observe Van, grip, handling & comfort all good. Wear rate on the front is higher than the CP's but lower on the rear.

I have Michelin on mine at the moment, im looking at getting Nankang anytime now, do I have to buy 5 or can I leave the Michelin as a spare?

Much as I loved that series I'm MinXy, not MinDy ... 😄
I think this was the reference that was intended
This series put Williams on the comedy map and generated several catchphrases, including Mork's greeting "Nanu Nanu."

We've finally changed our Conti Vanco Campers for Conti VanContact all seasons. Very happy with them on the road and even more so when we had a pitch for the last few nights that was at the top of a wet grassy incline. We know our previous tyres couldn't have coped with that one.

OK if you change your own tyres, but some countries demand that tyre fitters ensure that the tyres on an axle must be matched, so they may not fit your Michelin unless they can fit, and sell, a matching tyre.

France & Spain not sure about others.

But then you would have winter tyres on the front and summer tyres on the rear, not advisable, all 4 tyres should be of the same type, summer or winter.
In an ideal world, but it’s not. Thousands of vehicles on the road without matching tyres, and they aren’t skidding off every five minutes.

But mixing winter tyres with summer ones you have two totally different grip levels

But mixing winter tyres with summer ones you have two totally different grip levels
You have very different grip levels with many tyre combinations. A quality tyre with full tread to a remould tyre with 1.7mm, which is legal and allowed. Most manufactured tyres have different compounds. Many vehicles are made, designed, and driven with odd size tyres front to rear, so they will have different grip levels, as HGVs don’t run the same tyre all round carrying many tonnes. It’s a motorhome not a race car.
