truck sat nav

It does on mine :thumb: but you have to have the right software.

John

Thanks John.

I've done a bit of Googling and see that it is something many people have come across on different platforms.

It's not that important to me, it would just be a nice to have

When I was messing about yesterday adding sets of POIs the final problem I had was with the Lidl download. It either wouldn't generate the correct icon or hung the machine.

When I looked at the POI set I discovered it had thousands of entries covering all of Lidl's shops. I only require the UK ones so downloaded the Autoroute set which is a .csv file. I opened that in Open Office spreadsheet and deleted the entries not required then saved the edited file. I actually saved it under a different name (and changed the icon file name to match) because the original file name had spaces within it which some systems don't like.

Lidl and Aldi shop pois are in the standard map pois. If you do a find places and do a name search you should find them.

They are a bit out of date as any shop opened in the last a8 months will not be there.

I must admit I haven't looked at the supplied POIs. I got into the habit, with TomTom and Garmin, of loading specific sets that I wanted - on the grounds that the supplied sets could not be trusted to be up to date/accurate

Graham, did you use the default car profile, or did you add a new one using the MH parameters as a car?

Today, I used two profiles whilstout on my deliveries. One was a new profile named Motorhome - Car, and had all the MH weights and dimensions loaded into it. That took me evrywhere I would be happy to take the MH, ([HI]L 8 x W 2.2 x H 3mtrs @ 5 Tonnes[/HI]).

I then used the default Truck profile, but extended the dimensions to L 15 x W 2.5 x H 4.3mtrs @ 44 Tonnes. That tried it's best to avoid hazards and weight restrictions which I intentionally headed for on my round. It kept advising me to come back on myself at the next roundabout. In the absence of a roundabout, it twice took me into an industrial estate to turn round, approximately about a hundred metres or so before the low overhead railway bridge. At about 50 metres to go, up came a black warning sign, telling me how far I was from the bridge, along with other warning info. :thumb:

[HI]Tomorrow, I'll be using a new Truck profile named Motorhome -Truck, loaded with the same MH weights and dimensions. So far, the route planned, wants to take me over that 7.5T bridge near us, whereas last time, it didn't.[/HI]

Maybe I haven't found the options yet, but I can't seem to enter different warning sounds for different hazards. And, although I know they are on the SD card, I can't seem to find my added POIs, ie, Aires and Stellplatz, etc. No doubt it's down to pilot error, ie, me, but happy to be guided by those that know the unit better than I.

Cheers for now,

Jock.
Carrying on from yesterday's post, today's profile as highlighted above, took me everywhere I wanted to be, and on most occasions, it routed me around the city rather than through it, however, if I took the shorter city routes, it rerouted every time, (usually within 5 seconds) without trying to divert me back to the original route.

I am pleased to say also, that unlike previous attempts in Truck mode @ 5Tonnes, it was happy to use 7.5T weight restrictions, rather than go miles out of it's way to avoid them. :thumb:

Cheers,

Jock.

I'm just a little confused, Jock, as I don't appear to have a Default Truck profile. The defaults I have are Car, Pedestrian, Bicycle, Emergency, Bus, Taxi & Lorry. Should I have another or are you using Truck as another name for Lorry?

Jock,

Were there any lower weight limit roads e.g.3.5 tonne that it did not route over.

If not you need to go somewhere (anywhere) to test that it does not route over weight/height/width restricted roads, and not come back until you have all the answers. :Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1:

None John, and I don't know of any in my area.

That'll be France, and the rest of mainland Europe then. :Rofl1: I'm happy to give it a go for months on end, but not sure about the wee woman. BTW, who'll be paying for this extensive research? :Eek!: ...........

Any update on that software please John? :thumb:

Sorry Graham, as they are Truck Maps, I am using the generic term "Truck". Same difference.
You can leave the Lorry default as it is, and add a new profile using "Lorry", or you can udjust the default parameters to suit your own requirements.

Cheers for now,

Jock.

Waiing to hear back from mattyjwr on a couple of things.

Chinese Sat Nav

The TTS voices on the delivered units does not work even though they appear to be available. It requires additional software and changes to the sys.txt file to make it work.

John
Hi Guys
We're doing pretty well on these sat navs-28 PAGES !! reading through all these posts is becoming "The must have manual for Chinese Sat navs"

My question is concerning the TTS voices where do I get the additional software previously mentioned and what changes would I need to make to the sys.txt file?

Thanks Jock. I thought I might have deleted something by mistake

I have added a new profile for our van using the Lorry default as the base.

Despite the odd crudities (which I expected) it seems so far to produce more appropriate routes for the van that the TomTom does - and at a much better price than others

Can someone please tell me where to put the co-ordinates on this? I have managed to follow all the instructions on here setting it up but can't see where to put in these.

Thanks Joyce

From the main map screen touch MENU so you are on the navigation menu page.
Touch FIND
At the bottom of the FIND page you will see "Back" and "More"
Touch "More"
Next page shows "Coordinate" Touch Coordinate then enter coordinates in screen.
Sorted

We used the sat nav today on a journey from Middlesbrough to the Birmingham area.

The lane assist was more than adequate on all junctions though - for instance flagging up the need to move into lane 2 on the M18 to take the M1 southbound well before the road sign. It has photo realistic displays for some junctions, mainly the more complex ones on motorways from what I could judge, but not all.

It did try to take us via the A38 and M6 rather than the usual A42/M42 but I guess that is probably down to either similar journey times or that it was judging on truck speed limits rather than motorhome (same as a car). For that reason I think use of an atlas when planning a route may be worthwhile - but that is no bad thing with any sat nav.

I've just bought a 7" P-Navi but I can't say I'm particularly impressed.
It doesn't seem to pick up the satellites as well or as quickly as my Garmins do, plus I find the software slow to load and the menu too complicated for easy use.
Maybe I've been spoiled by my other units.
If anyone wants this one I'll be open to reasonable offers by PM...

Reading through all the posts on these Chinese Sat Nav' that many members seem to have.

I have a couple of questions, that hopefully someone could comment on?

1) Can you route to co-ordinates as a destination

2) Is it possible to import POI's in CSV format, eg Archies

Apologies if these have been asked/answered before, sadly I don't get a lot of time to regularly check on the forum

I'm afraid that mine is continually resetting itself now and has become completely unreliable.

I'm saving up to buy a Snooper satnav.

Yes, there is an input for coordinates and my POIs were put in for me so can't comment on how it's done but can vouch that it can be.

My Garmin has become very slow off the mark finding satellites. On occasions have found our own way out of an unfamiliar area before it has! Not had that with our P. Navi though.

It's easy enough to convert POIs from CSV so they can be added.

See Broken Link Removed. It's a bit long and I can't recall exactly where the instructions are but they are there

To answer your questions:

1 yes

2 The pois have to be in. Kml (google earth) format for importing.

Hi there
If anyone is still watching this thread and has not already sorted out their satnavs I have written/compiled a manual to compliment the official version.

It includes many of the topics addressed in this thread.. and some.

It's all done in picture/screenshot easy to follow steps; it is in *.pdf format so that you may print it out as a booklet.

Great stuff:thumb::thumb::thumb:

Why not upload it to the resources area of the forum. Then it would be available for members to download without bothering you.

A very good and informative guide.:thumb:

I've downloaded Pwilmo's guide to the Truck Satnav and wish I'd had access to it from the start. Here's my response as sent to him:

Just taken a quick look through the guide. My word you have been a busy chap! As said I have got to grips with the basics over a period of time by trial and error and use of the manuals. Having said that I am sure your guide will still provide me with facilities I have not yet come up against. It is clear, concise and easy to follow. I am sure it will be a boon to anyone starting out from scratch. Thank you for taking what must have been a considerable amount of time and trouble. I hope others appreciate this as much as I do.
I think I will be referring to it in file form rather than printing it out, though, as it runs to 77 pages! But that's just the result of having such an easy to follow and complete guide.

Tried a TomTom Go Live Camper & Caravan which was useless plotting unsuitable routes even after inputting the largest possible size vehicle. Now have a Garmin Dezl 560 LMT for Truck/Caravan ordered so hopefully that will be better & £60 cheaper! The reviews on the TomTom were better than on the Garmin but can't always trust that all are genuine buyers.
