Trimming Back your trips..?????

We booked our crossing Thursday, normally the tunnel but at €360 + dog it had to be the cheapest being DFDS €253 including dog, it won't make a big difference on our travels on where we go, but it will make a huge difference on what we spend while we are there. 😁 Bob
Agree with that and really don't understand why the tunnel charges £40 each way for a dog. Anybody got a reasonable explanation since they are in the van all the time just like on the ferry but for a shorter time.

It may be a long way from the north to get to Devon and Dorset but the price of sites and the lovely surroundings make it well worthwhile

Because they know people will pay it, how much are kennel now a week for holidays ?

I haven’t come across any site that I thought was dear

Will any of you lovely people be thinking of reducing the miles you travel to a site or rally.
when the rise in fuel comes..???

Me personally, it will not make a lot of difference as we have decided if we carry on to limit to about 100 miles from home..

I feel sorry for those who have scrimped and saved to buy a motor-home to tour and enjoy the outdoor life..
No way we will trim back, just spend more of the kids inheritance on fuel.
We are of to Holland and then Spain and France.
Ferry to Bilbao booked to save fuel going through Frogville.

Not sure where your are but I do understand your concerns, I try to use my van most weekends and often do not travel far from home I was at wonderful free stop Friday night where kids love as it is an old quarry wit some great safe exploring for kids, mountain biking and the sunsets are spectacular its 1hour 45 minutes away from home but only go there if I'm in the area, I have another hidey hole near the beach again a free stop , I also use Brtistops rather than paying for a bit of field I pay for a meal choose them carefully as many have playgrounds so you have happy little people (if they are of that age)

Don't worry about 'freeloading comments' make the van work for you and your family, the kids don't need the fancy sites they will find it exciting being out in the wild. I also have found another place under 30 minutes from home next to the water leave no trace and the little people will remember it as their happy place

It is me, a 12 year old and a dog :giggle: I am planning on exploring lots of places within 30 minutes to an hour drive of us on the weekends. The van needs a new hab battery so we are limited to sites with EHU at the moment.

We have a week away booked over Easter that is costing £150 for nice sites, whereas an apartment would be £700+.

I can't complain - its not like we are worried about heating or eating like many people, but my zombie apocalypse fund isn't as healthy looking as I would like and the world is feeling a bit apocalyptic right now.

One return trip to the NEC, and I had to take a photo of the most expensive fill up I’ve ever done…
Won’t be doing that again till I’ve saved up…

If Russian forces break through to any NATO countries, whether Baltic States, Poland or Slowakia, our journey West from Poland will not be curtailed or take fuel costs into consideration, just 'MiL's' (100 years) comfort and hotels, till we arrive safely at ?????

West, might include Italy and then a ferry to Greece where we have many contacts.

Hopefully a journey not necessary.

Geoff

I'll be freewheeling downhill and never driving into strong prevailing winds :whistle2:

I spotted LPG at £1.27 a litre at the weekend on my way to Shrewsbury :Eeek:

As you know, I am heavily involved with our local DA of the C&CC and I can assure you, we are getting a lot of bookings for meets from people that otherwise would have chosen to go abroad or big commercial sites. About £70 per night on a site or about £15 and some even have EHU. It makes our hobby more attainable to keep the costs down

I find the best way to save on fuel is if you have it use the cruise control as much as possible great savings to be had

Silly question Big1 whats DA?

No. The price of derv could double and it wouldn't stop us. I've waited two years to feel some proper Italian sun. Armageddon dependant, obv.

All interesting comments and very valid too. I guess it all depends on what you want (or can afford) out of life. Motorhomes cost thousands of pounds and parked up they loose money in depreciation, tax, insurance etc. We tend to use our MH for around 5K to 6K a year in Europe and around 1k in UK. so balancing this up with the pleasure we get I guess we will not be cutting back on travelling but will be more "selective" on where we stay and probably use the BBQ more often. We could easily balance the additional fuel cost by using CL's instead of CMC sites.

Haven't read all the posts but the price rise is just starting, my thinking is £2.20 plus per litre.
Always look on the bright side(y)

I've found the opposite. When on a long run I can eke more out by remaining on manual. I only tend to use it on long runs on continental trunk roads. Traffic in the UK is too heavy to keep it on.

I actually use cruise a lot in the UK especially in 50 limits through roadworks providing there's not much traffic. I do agree about the fuel consumption though cruise will just maintain a steady speed without looking for example when you're about to crest a hill and can save a bit of fuel accepting a lower speed so I suspect uses more fuel. It could save fuel if you're a driver who otherwise lets the speed creep up!

I've always thought of cruise control as a sales gimmick, proper use of the gears will give you more MPG and keep you more aware of what's going on round about you, speaking as a retired lorry driver. :whistle2:

My van has stop go. Throttle pedal at top for stop, pedal on floor to go, the wife screams at me to break
