Toilet/showers CAMC

On our second C&MC site in two days and the rules seem somewhat random. First site had no urinals open, while second site has two urinals open. First site had every other toilet open, while second site had three in a row open. On both sites only one “family group” is allowed in the washing up area at any one time, but you must wear a face mask. Just went up to the male toilets and all four bands were on the hooks, chatting to another chap queuing outside, waiting for a shower when a man wrapped in a towel came out to say, “I can hear you talking outside and there is no one in here but me”

Just go with the flow 👍

You’ll be fine then, two weeks after the second vaccination. Data is showing both vaccines are highly effective even against the Indian variant.
But sensible to avoid them until then. The studies show 30% effective after one dose or roughly 2/3 still likely to catch it if exposed to the Indian variant. The number getting a serious infection will be way lower but better avoided.

I couldn't care less about Covid jabs where shared shower arrangements are concerned - much more concerned about catching someone else's verrucas TBH.
Flip Flops. (y)

I’ll use them if they’re open. Saves emptying as often. I don’t understand the fear around using a toilet or shower. Particularly the shower. We’ve been told from day one that the best way to kill the virus is soap and water. I can’t think of a place with more soap and water than a shower.
You're not going to catch anything from toilets seats or the like. The risk is being in a confined space with other people and breathing in what they have breathed out. This is the number one method of transmission and why numbers in a room are limited. "Hands, Face, Space" was a good cry to begin with but it is now known the most important of them is "Space".

All what you say is correct. However I very much doubt that any of the people in the facilities block have Covid. You may of course think that they are likely to have it.
We’re all different.

You're right, current infection rates are around 2 per 10,000 people over the last 7 days so the chances of someone on the next pitch having Covid are slight. But being careful is no inconvenience.

We are using the facilities. We’ve had both jabs and don’t believe we’re at risk. I used the shower yesterday and with the measures in place I felt perfectly safe.

I think you are both jabs and a couple of weeks after the second is really low odds of being seriously ill and probably pretty low odds of passing it on. Also at the moment the community covid rates are really low. But the other poster after one jab is quite different still low odds of having a problem but just to save emptying the cadette I would use our own stuff.

There's still a chance you can carch covid even after being fully vaccinated. You are probably not going to show any symptoms but you can pass it on to the very large number of people who are still not vaccinated.

There is, but it all depends on whether you’re a glass half full type I guess. Me? I will go with half full and will continue to think I’m very, very unlikely to come into contact with anyone carrying the virus. I’ve had both jabs, three weeks on from the second. So around 97% protected from catching it and in the very unlikely event I do catch it around 65% against me passing it on to an unvaccinated person.
Like I say, glass half full.

If peaple are really that worried about the shower blocks, simple answer is don’t use them we all have toilets and showers in our units. No one seems to care about the site staff who have to go in and clean them. (y)

But I'm not sure how long it takes to dissapate from the air. Probably 15 minutes or so.

You must be pretty sure that all other users of said facilities have Covid. I tend to think the opposite.

We’re now using the facilities. We’ve had both vaccines and the number of infections is very low. What are people waiting for?
60% efficacy for Astra Zenica and 80% for phizer apparently so we will use our own facilities for a while yet.

Not sure where you got those figures from but I read 97% for OAZ and similar for Pfizer. I’ll trust my vaccination.

Actually having now got used to using our own facilities we much prefer it. A big positive is not coming across those in dressing gowns!!!!
Other drawbacks, having to fill and empty but a small price to pay for the much better facilities on board. The only real issue is cleaning the bbq!

They are the figures being quoted but that’s still excellent odds for a vaccine. No vaccine is 100% effective; a vaccination programme becomes more effective as more people are vaccinated and that’s what’s happening daily.

Currently the average in England for infections is 12 in 100,000, yesterday five deaths were reported. You have a much higher chance of having something else affect you such as an accident, heart attack, stroke, etc.

It was on the TV (BBC?) a day or two ago however they also went on to explain the differential was due to the testing process and further data awaited on AZ. It's expected AZ will be up at the level of Pfizer once it comes through.

97% is the aggregated figures de-aggregate and you get the correct figure for the type of vaccine you have had.....just saying.....

More importantly than a personal interpretation of the the figures read from various media sources using your own facilitmeans no dressing gowns!

I understand odds and associated risks, given that Covid can easily be caught via airborne transmission being in a shower block with others raises the risk. All I am pointing out is the de-aggregated figure and for those who wish to minimise the current risk is to use their own facilities. The government pumped out the 97% figure pre a report coming out as it’s a ‘good news’ story. You may not have noticed how quickly the story was dropped once the report was released.

I am not suggesting things are as bad as ever but suggest we look at the risks and decide for ourselves. I am on the side of the funsters who will continue to use their own facilities for a while yet based on de-aggregated numbers.

I'm interested how sites are working their facilities. The sites you've been on is it 1 in 1 out or several cubicles open at a time?
What's the rubber band system?

Thanks

Shawn
There's a board with about 5 or 6 hooks on, the lowest supporting a small tub that has handwash and rubber bands swimming around. As you enter the toilets, you take a rubber band and hang it on the hook. If all bands 'taken', you must wait for someone to exit, and they willplace the band back in the disinfectant tub. Remember your face mask! [auto pilot me forgot on morning 1, and I wasn't bout to risk a return trip of over 200m with Nature calling, so white gut on display and tee shirt drawn up around mouth ...

I thought there may be a chance of selling Funster dressing gowns so we can spot each other…….I take it, it’s a bad idea? :lipssealed: :giggle:

Last week at CMC Cirencester Park, the blue bands system was working well in the Gents facilities, but there was a glitch with the Ladies facilities according to SWMBO because all their bands went missing. (Rectified later.)

Face masks were being worn.

Was the site in Wales? That might explain all 4 Bands being taken; 1. Hugh Rinal 2. Hugh Evans 3. Hugh Jones 4. Hugh Lloyd ...

I’ve been desensitised to the dressing gown thing after spending time in Europe, where it’s very much the norm.

Don’t the face masks disintegrate in the shower? How do they clean their teeth?

I must admit I haven't tried cleaning my teeth in the shower. Although there is a handy hook for the mask on the back of the cubicle door.
