Time for a Globecar

Hi Andrew, I am writing this sat in ours on a site on the edge of Dartmoor, wind blowing well and rain chucking it down.
We have had a few loose screws over the five years, but other than that the build quality is very good. We had a leak in the bathroom roof vent and a flush problem. The only other thing that has gone wrong was the Truma electric elements at three years and over three thousand hours of use.
I did fit extra 240volt sockets(3) and replaced all bulbs to led’s and as I said before we had the rear side windows fitted which we would have fitted in a new one again.
If we were going to change I would go for the V630EX model.
Terry.

Morning Terry,

That's a really informative write up - many thanks indeed;)

Am I right in thinking that the EX, FX and JX are all the same configurations except for the size of the fridges with the FX being the biggest.

I've just pulled this off a 2018 Practical MoHo Magazine article on the Foxy so I think I'm reading it right.

These include the V630E, with a standard shower that extends out into the aisle. But the V630JX, V630FX and V630EX all feature the new sliding Thetford C400 toilet.

This clever loo tucks away under the nearside fixed bed at the back, to provide a larger shower that doesn’t involve having to sacrifice aisle space.

The main way you tell the three apart is that the V630JX has an 80-litre fridge that sits on top of the wardrobe, the V630FX has a 141-litre fridge with a separate freezer and a cantilevered wardrobe, while the V630EX has a smaller 64-litre compressor fridge at ground level.

........plus a pic of a new V630FJ:

There's a fully equipped 67-plate, 5,000-mile, Globecar Campscout Revolution on Autotrader for £47,995 at the moment.

Does this belong to a Funster by any chance.

That looks a lovely van Andrew, the only thing not mentioned is the bhp of the engine, if it's the 150 version then a good buy, especially as for a cash sale, offer 45.

It is somebody off of the Possel / Globecar face book page. It is almost identical to ours, if it had been for sale when we were looking I would have bought it on the spot to save ordering a brand new one.
I would say it is a bargain and a shame they have to sell it.

Hi Andrew, Sorry not got back to you yesterday. Back home now, we gave up the weather.
Yes you are right about the layouts of the vans. It’s the JX I like not the EX because of the fridge being above the wardrobe. We open the fridge more and it would save the old back bending (old age).
The photo is that the FX or a new model for 2019, I can not find any details on it. Anyway better stop talking about Foxyvans on the Globecar site.

Looks good VFM but it only has 1 bed at the rear so you'd have to buy the kit for a lower bed or make one ... but if you were going to make a sofa you wouldn't need it anyway ...

Oh, one thing to mention, whilst height is not often a problem with panel vans compared to coachbuilts, we did notice on 3 occasions in the last 2 weeks 2.8m height restrictions on the roads we were using ... our PVC is 2.65m so no problem but the Revolution models are 2.83 so could be a bit 'butt-clenching'! We also noticed that quite a few of the places to stop had trees etc that could make it awkward to get a higher van in.

The Campscout seems to have a tonne of usable space so it seems to be the one to have for us.

That said Mel, does the Campscout come with the following gear as standard or not:

1. Locking assist for the main door. YES
2. Entry omni-step. YES
3. Door blinds to rear doors. YES
4. Gas Duo Control CS. NOT WITH OURS
5. Winter Pack. NOT SURE WHAT THIS WOULD ADD WITH A GLOBECAR SO CAN'T SAY!

The parts list seems to indicate that the above five items are all cost options - Very confusing indeed.

While I'm on a roll can someone tell me the pros and cons (if any) concerning the shower configuration in the Campscout or Campscout B.

Does the van need to be 100% level for the water to flow away correctly from the shower tray and, if it's not level, then will the water overflow onto the van floor.
Having had showers in our Campscout you can bet that the time we are having them we are on a 'slope' so and the water goes to the opposite corner of the blooming shower tray however this has allowed me to 'test' the of overflow of water in such instances and I can confirm it does not ... it does give you feet a nice soak though.:D

@Minxy Girl i know what you mean about the shower, this is how we've got round it with no adjustments. If you undo one or two of the poppers on the right hand side you can then reach the tap without opening the curtain, as its in the corner no water can get through so nothing to worry about.
I considered doing as you say but that still doesn't get round the problem of the hose being on full stretch so you can't easily use it in your hand to rinse yourself, so I'll be moving the holder to the other side ... it will be an easy job and will solve the whole issue.

We have the second one and it has marked the door, hadn't realised until in bedroom area with door over the gap and saw the marked line. Annoying and a few mm would have been clear. Still there is no mark showing when the door is closed.

Minxys right I gave ours a proper check today and the door does touch the toilet, I was sure as ours didn’t but I’m wrong.

John.
I have a 'plan' to sort the problem but won't be able to tell you if it will work or not until I get home and raid my 'bits box' to try it out ... it doesn't involve a lump hammer to modify it though! :D

Chances are it's the 150bhp engine as very few later ones appear to have come to the UK with the 130bhp version, unless ordered specially. It would also be interesting to know what revenue weight it's registered at.

Oh, one other daft thing we've found is that when the toilet is in the 'usable' position, ie turned outwards, if you forget to turn it back again then when you close the tambour door it scuffs along the front edge of the loo ... stupid designers not thinking about it properly ... nothing can be done about this that I can see at the moment and its not the end of the world but could so easily have not existed in the first place.
Maybe they did think about it but decided that that's what the swivel was there for.

After nearly 5 years of use, there are no scuff marks on ours (He said, trying not to sound too self-righteous). :sneaky:

To be fair, I don't normally turn it all the way to the 'out' position, preferring a more SSE angle, as opposed to fully South. That seems to be the angle that gives the best all-round clearance (for me, rather than for the door!). :D

Well I never ... there was me thinking it was so you could fasten the shower curtain across. :D

Bet you have a few skid marks though ...

If you do have it at an angle it can make it worse as the toilet is then 'longer' than when sat 'level' at the front ... but I know what you mean about it being comfier with a bit of a twist. :p

You're a smart looking chappy with a handsome look about you - how about if I give you the cheque book Paul and you can make them an offer on my behalf:D

The only problem with these private sales is they're not that great when you have a van sitting on the drive. A dealer exchange would certainly remove a lot of hassle and uncertainty.

Nicky and I are considering the adoption of a rescue dog so we thought a van such as a Revolution would be more suited for their bed area.

Cheers Paul,

Andrew

I don't have a FB account but the boss does. It may be worth joining to see what's going on in the Globecar world.

All the best,

Andrew

Wow, a bed for you both and one for the dog ... how lucky is that dog gonna be! We have to share our bed with our monsters ... in fact just this morning our 3 darlings nicked my bed when I got up to make a cuppa! [brown one at back, white/tan one in front of her and big heffalump at the very front] the cream one on the left is my stuffed pig bolster my Mum got me!

Cheers Mel, very useful. Everything seems to have a compromise attached these days but what you say is most relevant for proper adventuring.

If we were to tour our area in a Revolution following the recent storms then I dare say that the upper tops of the vans would have been severely scratched - worth considering though (y)

Thanks Mel

Sadly for him it would be a dog bed on the floor Mel hence our thoughts about the Revolution and its huge storage area. Here's a pic of the little chap in the Center:

Thanks Terry but if Macron continues to kick this country in the bo-l--cks as he's doing now then I won't be buying French ever again. (y) (That's just how I am good mate).

Forget the bed area ... how's the 'little chap' gonna turn round in the camper! He'd need reversing sensors! :D

Ah, but I have a cunning plan Mel :D We decided not to go for that one (he is now reserved and has a lovely home) but instead we have gone for this one which is a lighter and more versatile model:

......so we've got ourselves a puppy dog again; collect Sunday.

Can someone tell me the best Globecar for a large pup - Revolution by any chance?

Remember a large pup soon grows into a large dog so make sure you take this into account Andrew.

I've seen pics of a dog bed/kennel accessed from the main area by removing the steps under the bed. It's not posh enough for our little princess but but works for some dogs. Just be aware that you are using garage area so your storage volume would be reduced and moved further back behind the rear axle.

Cheers Paul,

I've used 'pup' in order to lighten the mood about him being a fully grown Rotti. We've had Rotti boys and girls for many years so our life will soon start to orbit around this not-so-little chap.

You're a star for pointing out the facts though - thanks mate ;)

Thanks Sue, I've seen the Revolution in person and there looks to be a removable partition between the underbed storage space and them main galley - Very practical.

It looks to be the best set-up for a large pup.

Thanks again Sue,

Andrew

Team, do the Globecars come pre-wired for solar units and TV aerials or does it require someone to drill a hole in the roof for the wires.
