Thetford Bash

Great bash, Tina and I really enjoyed the whole weekend.
Watching the ped races reminded me of Ski Sunday when I watched it just to see competitors who would fall with legs and arms splayed everywhere, I wasn’t disappointed.
well done John for the amount raised and the hard work you and your team do.
Great to catch up with friends we hadn’t seen in a long time.

Great weekend Thankyou to all involved and well done jaws a great amount raised .

Its STILL going up !!! Another one of the bikers who could not make it ( works for NH and got called in to work ) just sent £25 to cover the meal he ordered and a donation on top
£5636.51 :) ( less rugby club fees which I STILL do not know !!!! )

For those interested..
Why three of the peds broke down

The one with the big blue tank had poo in the carb ( at least it looked like poo !Must have come out the tank as the carbs were all cleaned during the pre-bash servicing
Cleaned and will be buying an in line filter for it

1st of the black tanked 4 stroke peds.. Just a fouled plug.. cleaned to confirm then fitted a new plug

2nd of the black tanked 4 stroke peds... Another easy one. Someone, during the mayhem that is ped racing, pulled a wire from the ignition switch ( lord knows how ! I had tucked it well away on a frame rail below the riders bum.. I reckon someone was trying for a quick feel :-) )
After confirming that was all it was I got an old handlebar headlight switch, and used one side of it as the ignition switch, run all new wires and that done the job.
They are ALL ready for the next battle royal !

You aint gonna believe it but about 45 years ago I did actually ( and by accident ! ( drill a 5mmhole in my right knee cap
I literally had to twist the drill out backward real slow !... There was a lot of blood and a bit of gristle involved !
I did exactly the same except it went through my thumb. Agony ensued and I never held a piece of metal in my fingers again.
This was making bangers out of copper pipe weed killer and sugar. The hole was for the Jetex fuse.
Fantastic total by the way.

In a similar vein, but one you may not have noticed, the music kept stopping at the end of a track with the software frozen. Having rebooted to find it still happening after a few tracks. I then went to some very old software I had which does not 'standardise' the volume across tracks, meaning you can't leave it as you have to change the fader almost every track, but at least worked. (y)

What follows is not overly technical, but thought I would share it to anyone interested.

After a lot of analysing the logs, the problem proved to be contention on the single USB-C port shared to the console and hard disk on which sits all my music. (The second USB port is dedicated to the digital analogue link on the main mixer and for technical reasons cannot be shared.) The older software worked as I was loading each track individually before it was needed to play so it was already in memory. The newer version reads in the track details from its database at the time you load it for cueing, but then tries to get the actual track as it's required to play. If the USB was busy, it failed and simply sat there. :(

I've ordered a new and much bigger SSD for the laptop so I can load all the music onto it leaving the USB port for communications with the console. I have also been in touch with the software developers, and they have added it to the bug list. It's an issue with modern laptops with so few ports. The cure being automatic retries and error recovery if the 'get track' fails. That will be some months away.

Definitely need a 'Ouch!' Or 'Sympathy' response option on here. Nice one, hugs, thanks etc don't really cover what one wants to say. Drills through thumb and kneecap. Makes the bottom hurt! 🤕

This afternoon gave up waiting and contacted the rugby club....
Oh.... We will get back to you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So STILL no idea what I owe them !

You have a very strange anatomy for a sore backside resulting from that set of injuries :fubar:

I know lots of people who say their bottom hurts when something painful and/or gruesome happens to someone else. We may even find a few Funsters report the same.

More q case of discomfort in the seating area.

Perhaps suggest that if you don't get a figure, you will assume they wish to donate their fee to the Air Ambulance? ::bigsmile:

I like a challenge. Had to transcribe from a vinyl album.

Show me the way was more difficult. Had to get that from a 78.
You can always nick the more obscure from utube :)
Quite a few different ways to do it....

Just got this ..
Please note the £5k was a ball park figure, the cheque will be for £5197.02p

Hi John, great to chat earlier…

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain your involvement with B.I.R.D. and ‘Motorhome Fun’.

Now that I’ve been able to take a closer look at both records we have on our supporter database for each group, it’s clear you and all the members of each group have provided fabulous support to EAAA since at least 2013.

To now hear you’ve managed to raise an incredible further £5000 is just brilliant – so on behalf of this great organisation, thank you so much.

As I explained, I am the Community Fundraiser for Suffolk for the East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) and I would be delighted to be your main contact for the Charity.

So, if you need any support, advice or help about our lifesaving work, or with any fundraising initiatives you’re planning, just get in contact with me and I’ll do my very best to assist.

For now, as we agreed, the most important thing to do is to arrange a convenient date when we can meet, have a chat and perhaps have a couple of photos of you handing over the cheque, so we can start putting your members generous donation to good use in supporting our front line clinicians and the lifesaving work they’re performing every day.

I’m in the Elveden area next Wednesday (16th) afternoon, so please let me know if that’s convenient. Alternatively, I could come and see you on Tuesday 15th at about 11.00am.

As I explained, under normal circumstances, I would arrange for you and a small party of your members to come and visit either our Cambridge or Norwich bases to meet the crew and seen the helicopter up close. Unfortunately, due to the current restrictions, we just don’t know when our Bases will be open again to accept visitors. I’m sure you’ll appreciate the health and safety of our doctors, paramedics and pilots is of paramount importance at this time, so we need to minimise any risk to them and ultimately the patients they treat. That said, I’m sure once Base visits re-commence we can arrange for you to come and visit one of the Bases.

Once again, thank you so much for getting in contact with us and I really look forward to hearing from you very soon as to when we can meet up.

Take care and thanks again for your continued and very valued support.

Kind regards,

Mark

If anyone wants to come over and meet the man and maybe get their picture taken you are all most welcome :)
I have chosen the Tuesday 11am appointment
