The Joys of Benidorm!

PhilandMena
I had a PCR test a couple of weeks ago, took 30 minutes for the results, same yesterday we was at the hospital for dressings changed, people having PCR tests to go back to the UK, while chatting to a couple waiting for their results about hip replacement, nurse came out and said all clear it's on you app, again about 30 minutes. 🙂

Are you sure your going to need two tests to enter France ? Or is it just a PCR test before your crossing. 🤔 Bob.
Bob, see my post 744# above.

Thanks for your reply. At present a negative Antigen test has to be produced within 48hrs of testing before entrance to France is allowed. According to yesterdays Telegraph, the French Government are considering adding a further restriction which is a PCR test upon entry. No more is forthcoming in the paper and I was wondering how this would work in practice in a motorhome, especially if just transiting through France. Once out of the ferry port on the French side, the authorities will have lost control of the situation, especially with open E.U. borders. The only thing that makes sense to me, is a drive through testing station at the ferry port where your held, tested and allowed to proceed after a negative result. Any other method fails, as leaving the motorhome to say take a test at a pharmacy defeats the object, so I'm a bit lost as to how this would work in practice and how long it would take to set up.
It would be as for Portugal now at a Guess, Negative Antigen Test within 48Hrs or Negative PCR Test within 72Hrs of Arrival in France...dont need both...so would just move from Antigen to PCR for Entery, same as the UK have done for entering the UK...

I cant see France allowing travellers in at a ferry port without a negative test result before entry. The telegraph is suggesting two tests, I believe. One before entry, an Antigen test and one after entry, a PCR test. Having a PCR test 72 hrs after crossing the border does not kinda make sense to me as you would be in contact with others up to and including the time you take the test, assuming its in a registered pharmacy. If you were then to be found positive where would you go. No campsite would accept you ? I look forward to seeing the small print if this additional measure is introduced.

The test would be taken in the UK before entering France, why would any country insist on 2 tests ? To enter Portugal we had to provide Negative Antigen tests 48Hrs before crossing the Border,so we took ours in Spain, pointless for the Portuguese having people crossing the border then taking a test to find it was Positive...
Maybe read the Daily Sport instead :xrofl:I know it went bust years ago !

You may want to read my post at 744# to get a better understanding of where I'm coming from. I agree its pointless taking a second test or even a first test after entering a country. However, this report suggests one before entry and one after. No need for your last comment either, thank you.

But it's just another Media Opinion, I won't bother reading it,as by now it will have changed, if it's OK with you...

You may well be right! I do have more confidence in the Telegraph reporting than other UK tabloids and the reporter is quoting Senior French government officials, so I'm attaching some credence to it. Unless of course, they are just like our own politicians and seeking air time.

Here you go looks like no travel. From the BBC

We have more on the restrictions France is announcing on travellers. The new measures will be officially put out later, but their substance is now clear: from Saturday, people coming from the UK will be required to have a negative Covid test of less than 24 hours.

Once in France, they will have to self-isolate for a week, but that period of quarantine can be ended after 48 hours if they have a second negative test once in France.

Compelling reasons will be needed for entry, which includes visiting family - but not tourism or non-urgent work reasons.

The new measures apply to everyone regardless of whether they have been vaccinated.

Thanks for that! I did receive an update from Gov.UK and followed the link which stated the following: From Saturday 18 December, all those wishing to travel from the UK to France, regardless of vaccination status, will need to meet criteria defined by the French authorities that the travel is essential. French and EU nationals, as well as residents in France, are exempt. The full list of what constitutes essential travel is on the French Government website (in French).
I hope but not absolutely certain that we will be classed as E.U. Citizens as we both hold an Irish Passport and if so should be able to continue with our plans. I need to see the fine print on the French website to get my head around this. I think we will be OK providing the French border police accept us as E.U. citizens with an Irish Passport.

Good luck, I think you should be OK, just say "top of the morning to ya" at passport control and all should be well:xThumb:

Who can now travel to France from the UK?

Under the new rules imposed by France for travellers arriving from the UK, there is a list of "compelling reasons" needed to justify a trip.
A statement from the French prime minister's office lists them as:
  • Being someone working in the land, maritime and aerial transport sectors
  • French citizens with wife/husband/partner and their children
  • EU citizens with wife/husband/partner and children who have a main residence in France, or are in transit to a main residence in a country of the EU
  • Citizens from outside the EU who have a resident permit in France or a long-stay visa, with a main residence in France
  • British workers from the public sector such as border guards or customs officers
  • People working for the Channel Tunnel
  • Travellers in transit for less than 24 hours in French airports' international zones

Just had a read from the French Gov. website and its clear it applies to everyone coming from the UK, less any French and those with compelling reasons. $8 Hr antigen testing now reduced to 24hrs. Looks like were not going to Beni this winter.

STRENGTHENING OF HEALTH CONTROL MEASURES AT THE BORDERS WITH THE UNITED KINGDOM

Faced with the extremely rapid distribution of the Omicron variant in the United Kingdom, the Government has chosen to reinstate compelling reasons.

List of compelling reasons - United Kingdom

Thus, from this Saturday midnight, the following rules will apply for travel between the United Kingdom and France:

  • Obligation to have a compelling reason to go to or come from the United Kingdom, for unvaccinated people as well as vaccinated people. These reasons will not allow travel for tourist or professional reasons. However, these compelling reasons will not apply to French nationals as well as their spouses and children who may still come to France.
  • Necessity for vaccinated people to initially present a negative test (PCR or TAG) of less than 24 hours, which is equivalent to an alignment with the rules which already apply to unvaccinated people.
  • Obligation for all travelers from the United Kingdom to register, prior to their trip, on a digital platform allowing in particular to enter the address of their stay in France. This platform will make it possible to generate prefectural orders fixing the obligation of isolation in the place of their choice for all travelers, unvaccinated as vaccinated. This isolation obligation may be lifted from 48 hours, subject to being able to justify a negative test (PCR or TAG).
Controls will be organized to ensure the proper implementation of these measures.

The Government also calls on travelers who had planned to visit the United Kingdom to postpone their trip.

So what happens if we get the Hook of Holland Ferry, drive down into Germany, stay there a week or so and then cross the southern end of France into Spain? What's the chance of being stopped?

Unless something has changed you are not allowed to go to Holland?

Entry to the Netherlands

The Dutch government has implemented measures which mean that non-EU/EEA nationals and nationals of non-Schengen states arriving from outside of the Schengen area will not be permitted entry to the Netherlands for non-essential purposes due to EU-wide COVID-19 restrictions. There are certain exemptions to these measures, detailed below. You should also visit the <Broken link removed> for a list of exemptions.

As we use to say in the military - two thirds of three fifths of bu**er all!

Looks as if the Spanish Government are going to release a statement at 17.00...same as France ?

BUT a number of folk have commented that UK plates give the impression that you are from Ukraine ;)

Gordon
Not while they Arrive in Calais xroll:

I have no idea if the U.K. registration plate looks like a Ukraine one. I would imagine the French police could spot the difference.

yes driving seat on the wrong side for starters:xrofl:

Well That's us done! Ferry cancelled and credit note issued. Antigen test's cancelled and full refund less £10.0 admin fee. Campsite notified and waiting to find out if deposit going to be used for the Villasol staff Christmas party or returned for us to spend on ours. As for me, I blame the media for blowing this totally out of proportion and not keeping to the facts with respect to how mild this is and the very low numbers of hospitalisations and deaths. I cant blame the French, we loaded the gun and gave it to them to use on us. They must be relishing these new restrictions they have imposed upon us. Bugger! Well onwards and upwards I say.
