The Joys of Benidorm!

This is post 699 # plenty of references to campsites from there onwards.

There is a self service car wash/ garage up near Torreta camp site just past Maesy Maecs supermarket,on the same side as the Tropical bar
Only mention of campsites is in relation to car washes. No requests for information about the 2 sites mentioned.

I had a wonder around the China shop today on the way back .Sooooooo much stuff glad I didn't have the van or I would have bought so may pointless 'bargains' :xrofl: wondered around thinking that would be good for van .......

I've only read half of this thread so please forgive me if this got a mention in the 50% I haven't seen.

I could take the van on BF for £1000, drive 600 miles each way and pay £20 pn site fees (approx) so costing £1800 for a month's stay.
BUT for between £1200 & £1700 Jet2 will fly me from Stanstead to a variety of self-catering hotels (including transfers) where I will get a room (or two) which must be at least as big as my motorhome. I will not need to fill my fresh water tank, empty grey (and black) waste, refill my gas cylinder, put money into the EHU and be confident that I will not be washed away in flash floods. Someone will regularly provide me with clean sheets and towels and copious hot water is available in the private facilities.

Apart from not being able to bring back 48 bottles of cheap wine, what am I missing?

Gordon

AND I can SORN the MH thus saving a few more pounds, to say nothing of not adding mileage!

You may aswell sell your van then.To me the journey, the people you meet both fellow travelers and residents of the country you travel to are what I enjoy. Also if a month was the maximum I could go for I would not bother investing in a van,,BUSBY.

The price is considerably different in high season!

We love touring and usually move on every day, rarely stopping on a campsite or camperstop. Medical considerations, which could be overcome with effort, means that we return home after approximately 4weeks, even in UK.

This winter I fancied some sunshine and stumbled across this sort of holiday. I just wondered what advantage there is in sleeping in a metal box on one spot for a month. As it happens, we will be staying at home ☹️

I've been told there's some offers coming up in January for as little as £9 a night at Rio Park Hotel. Knock yourself out 👌😎

Must be quiet because air fares are very low at the moment...Not for me though,,at my age price doesn't matter within reason..No intention either of flying whilst Covid is around.BUSBY.

Buy your flights separatly and go on booking.com for an apartment and it'll be even cheaper.

I agree - for me a motorhome is about the travelling. Wouldn't stay in one place for more than 5 days/a week maybe.

We did 4500 miles in France and Spain in October/November.

Just arrived on Arena Blanca weather has been great but it's definitely quiet at the minute but I seem to remember it being the same weeks before Xmas the last time we were here then filling up after.

How long you there for Dave coming on the11 Jan

I eventually made the decision today to cancel my month is benidorm and other parts of Spain.

To be honest the covid stuff is a pain but I've not had too much work for the last 5 weeks and just as I was due to sail (28th Dec) we get busy so I don't really want to turn away the hours.

Sailing is cancelled and refund received from vilasol.

Gutted but I think I've made the right call.
Definitely the right decision. We've just cancelled our 90 day trip to Spain after friends came back and had a nightmare return. Bloody covid is ramping up again so best stsy in the UK. Never thought I'd ever say that.

I would have thought Spain would be so much safer to overwinter in than the UK with respect to Covid.

I actually looked at separate bookings BUT the costs were almost identical AND you lose the protection of the “package holiday” (I’ve never been on one). Last year lots of campers had problems getting home but the holiday companies laid on extra flights to solve their problem.

We don’t take bikes and we don’t have dogs 🙄

I flew out for 3 weeks and hired a car could not justify bring van not only the cost but the travelling time. Also the CAA will get you back if there is a major issue but as most of the flights are 50% capacity or less charging flights appears to be relatively simples .plus you can always get back even if it is not the airport you left from.i have just taken the extra precaution of changing to a pcr test over a lft.
If it goes pear shaped I'll let you know Saturday :xrofl:

I wonder how much Jet2 charge to take that bike in the over head lockers
I think you could ride a lot of taxis with your spare cash.

A question for Funsters ! If France was to introduce mandatory PCR tests when entering France (Clearly after you have entered, as you need the Antigen test to enter !),how would this work with a motorhome arriving at Calais.?

Do you mean a LFT to enter then say a day 2 PCR test like we have here?

IF so I guess you would have to state where you will be staying to isolate till you get the result and put the test ID on a PLF like we do here? Not sure how MH & Caravanners coming here get on if they are touring.

There are "Package Holiday" Forums,Possibly better off joining one of them, and ditch the Van... Just a Thought ?

I had a PCR test a couple of weeks ago, took 30 minutes for the results, same yesterday we was at the hospital for dressings changed, people having PCR tests to go back to the UK, while chatting to a couple waiting for their results about hip replacement, nurse came out and said all clear it's on you app, again about 30 minutes. 🙂

Are you sure your going to need two tests to enter France ? Or is it just a PCR test before your crossing. 🤔 Bob.

Thanks for your reply. At present a negative Antigen test has to be produced within 48hrs of testing before entrance to France is allowed. According to yesterdays Telegraph, the French Government are considering adding a further restriction which is a PCR test upon entry. No more is forthcoming in the paper and I was wondering how this would work in practice in a motorhome, especially if just transiting through France. Once out of the ferry port on the French side, the authorities will have lost control of the situation, especially with open E.U. borders. The only thing that makes sense to me, is a drive through testing station at the ferry port where your held, tested and allowed to proceed after a negative result. Any other method fails, as leaving the motorhome to say take a test at a pharmacy defeats the object, so I'm a bit lost as to how this would work in practice and how long it would take to set up.
