Hi Chris

I think that Brian (Hilldwellers) file can be located in the download section.
As far as I can remember it is an Autoroute file, you will need to have MS Autoroute loaded onto your computer for it to open.

Not long. The thought has certainly helped over this winter.

The Autoroute 2007 file is in downloads, here:

First thing you do is "unzip" it. Winzip or many other programs does this. When unzipped you will find calais2garda.axe This file can be read by Autoroute, in fact if you have autoroute on your computer then just double click it.

If this fails then use google to find Google Maps.

Click Get Directions. It will open a map of America
In the (A) box type Calais, France
(B) Lille
click add destination for another box, and so on
(C) Namur
(D) Metz - stopover in Aire
(E) Luzern - stopover
(F) Peschiera del Garda

Click the grey GET DIRECTIONS box and there is the route.

Once the route is there click SATELLITE and you can zoom in and see the places.

Yes a red triangle. You need two. I forget where, maybe France. You put one way out and the other closer.

How about a few vehicle bulbs. Needed just about everywhere over there. I don't know if ours are the right ones but we do a box with some. And fuses.

Hi Sue

You appear to have most things covered.:thumb:
Perhaps you might need a First Aid Kit.
You will also have to take the original V5, MOT Test and Insurance documents with you. Copies are not acceptable if you are required to produce them, however a set of copies may be useful in the event of loss.
Don't forget your glasses.:Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1:

Research from Brisey.....

Brisey has found this reference, just what we need, fuel in Luxembourg..

================================
take the exit for BETTEMBOURG. Just a short distance and less than 5 minutes from the mortorway will bring you to the pretty little town of Bettembourg, which is just loaded with service stations
================================

So my Autoroute route is now:

Calais
Namur
Bettembourg <<<<<<
Metz. Stop 1.
Luzern. Stop 2.
Peschiera del Garda. Stop 3.

Type these into Autoroute, Google Maps and/or your GPS and it's all sorted.

Bettembourg is 263 miles from Calais.
Luzerne 524
Peschiera 755

Mrs. JayDee has just suggested a Camping Card Carnet. Apparently they cost about a fiver and can be used at a lot of places instead of your passport. They are available from any of the three clubs (CC, C&CC and MCC). Needs a photo.

IIRC the two triangles are specifically Spain, but it doesn't hurt to have two. Spare lamps are a must (i.e. a legal requirement). We found that Halfords were most helpful as, being an A class, none of the lamps listed in the user handbook where correct, and the chap in the shop came out to the vehicle, identified the lamps we needed and sold us a pack that contained all but one of the right ones and then sold us the extra one. Brilliant service - I wouldn't have had a clue:Sad:.
Do you plan to carry a spare can of fuel? Better than calling International Rescue. :Cool:

Don't worry too much about other stuff. You'll've got the essentials, and plenty of helping hands not more than a shout away.

See you over there

John

Head Lights

Hi Everyone,

Just thought I would mention this in case someone does not know.

I have read that Dipped Headlights are mandatory during daytime outside built-up areas. Also in all tunnels.

Looking forward to meeting everyone.

onthebeach:thumb:

And that is the problem - we are members of none of them.

We hadn't realised that - never not been a member of one - so Mrs. JayDee called one of the clubs and discovered the following:---

Apparently you don't need a photograph, but as you say, you do need to be CC, C&CC, MCC or Hymer Club as these are the bodies authorised to issue them.

Oh well. The info may be of use to someone.

John

From an earlier thread it turns out that because the card carries insurance the organisation has to be registered to sell insurance and this *costs*.

Hi, not long now, as there seems to be a few of us catching the 6.15pm ferry on Mon 10th, where would be a good place to meet up near Dover???

Really looking forward now:BigGrin::BigGrin::BigGrin::thumb:

Hi, Brian

Are you staying in Calais over night on the 10/11 or are you heading direct for Metz ? and do you think we will need to book Butterfly as we will definitely see you there albeit not sure how long we will stay ?

Yes, Calais departure park overnight, then early start for the longest run to Metz.

We called in at Butterfly in May 2 years ago and got one of the last pitches, so are you feelin' lucky punk ? Your choice.

Be good to see you there.

I don't know, the port probably. That is simplest. Plenty of time to chat on boat and in Calais.

Just a Q from idle curiosity, why is it you are as it were, kicking your heels for a whole day and night in Calais? because you are flying down to Douvres overnight/early hrs Monday morning from that there Ooop North place?

Hi, Brian

Thanks for the reply, I don't think I can book before we arrive as i really don't know how long it will take us or just how long we will stay for, but I just checked the ACSI Camping Card sites for Lake Garda and there looks like there are another 12 sites around the Lake offering disscounts with the card, have you any suggestions just in case we can't get on to Butterfly

Thanks
Braunston

With the amount of people going it may be a good idea to have some name tags made up so we know whos who ?:Rofl1:

You can ring me there and I'll talk to reception and see if we can save a place. Someone on here said they have another site they will direct you to. Others have said how good Simeoni (??) is. You certainly won't have to wild camp.

So looking forward to it, first major trip in the MH (3rd time lucky)

All we have to do now is get Cathy's Schengen visa sorted out when she arrives in the UK on 22nd April and we are all set

See you all at Luzern:thumb::thumb:

Firenze

Bon Giorno Tutti, :BigGrin:

Has anyone made a booking for Florence for those of you carrying on from Garda after the 24th?

Billkce:driving2:

Not that I know of. I'm on a "play it by ear" basis after Garda. Too much planning starts to remove the FUN factor. If the weather is really unkind then a totally different direction may be called for.

Lucky devils !

We've 4 weeks 2 days to wait.

Metz

I've just been looking at the Metz camping. This is going to be FUN, in the middle with loads of one way streets.

49.12240N 6.16865E is the entrance.

Allee de Metz-Plage immediately after crossing Pont des Morts.

Basically leave A31/E21 onto D953 Rue St Barbe.
Along the river on Quai Paul Wiltzer.
On to Pont des Morts.
Hard left into allee de Metz Plage.

Masses of pitches at €8.

Luzern

Camping International Luzern is easy.

Into the middle of town ( Zentrum ), across the new horrible concrete bridge with it's phallic symbol next to it, along the lake.

You will see signs for Motor Museum / Verkehrshaus de Sweitz.

Haldenstrasse --> Lidostrasse

Simples.

Hi, Brian

Are you sure about the €8 I keep finding reference to prices from €12.5 to €16, there also appears there could be some confusion of which approach to use, as it seems one end of the site may be an emergency exit, just guessing but your link I think is the correct way in there apparently is a road under the trees, but I have never been before.

There are also some suggestions that there may be an official Aire just outside the entrance and that there are some separate charges for you position within the site, hard standing just in side the entrance may be cheaper than on or near the river bank.

Hope that helps
