The “funflair’s” head South

Really sorry to read this, Jen's poor mum. No one should have to put up with violence and this is particularly despicable. No excuses are acceptable and much much tougher action is needed to deter this type of scumbag. Hope he is arrested soon.

As awful as this episode is Martin, I wouldn't rush back unless you or Jen feel the need. If you've got family to support mum, there's no need for you to rush home. We had two family episodes whilst travelling, one of which necessited Anthony flying home and leaving me in Portugal and then flying back.

@funflair. I just seen the "heads up" on this from the Morning Thread.

Please pass on our very best to Jen. She must have been distraught upon receipt of the news of her mother's ordeal.
What utter and absolute scum these ba@tards are.

Here's hoping that your MIL has had a comfortable night accompanied by Jen's brother, and that she doeasn't suffer from delayed shock. (y)

I'm with Kim, so long as MIL has support and company.

Thinking of you both,

Jock & Rita.

Really shocked to read this Martin, hope Jen is OK.

Really lost for words, although I know a few I could use to describe the cowardly scumbag who did this. if we were home we would offer to help but as you know we are further away than you guys.

Davids post really made us think that we should have a rethink on our attitude to security then this comes along and we re also reminded of our parents vulnerability, but they don't want to live behind gates. What do you do?

We hope that Jens mum gets over it OK

Best wishes
Jon & Sue

Martin & Jen just caught up with your thread, so very sorry you must be so worried, it's beyond printable words. So sad that a lady of 85 should have to go through that. There are a lot of very evil people out there, but thankfully also many more good ones.

I am appalled by humankind. Best wishes to Jens Mum.

Thanks, makes you think though doesn't it.

So sorry and shocked to read about the attack on Jens mum. Beggars belief what they hope to achieve by their actions. Just cowards with half a brain cell.

Just makes your blood boil thinking about it.

Thanks Jock & Rita and KimH

I think it's decided really, we won't "rush back" but there is no point in going any further South so we might just amble back.

Martin

Not what you and Jen need, sorry to see the news. Wishing MIL a speedy recovery and that the police catch the scum soon.

We are so sorry to hear about Jen’s mum. It’s absolutely awful what they have done to her. We really hope she is ok and can recover, both physically and mentally, from this.

Martin

Sounds like a good plan.

It is only 0850 in UK, so probably too early to call Jen's Mum, but give us a report later when you know how she is.

Does Jen's Brother work or can he stay with Mum during the day?

I hope the news is good this morning - it would take some of the worry off your minds.

Best Wishes and safe driving.

Geoff

Hi Geoff

Her brother is retired so is staying over but he’s not as diligent as Jen is, do you know the saying “a son is a son till he takes a wife” “a daughter is a daughter for the rest of her life”

Martin

Morning M + J, hope today you can get a clear head on the problem and make plans, hope they can include some time away first, things seem to be in place at home, provided the place is secure theres not much more you can do, other obviously than let Jen have that reassuring face to face chat with her mum

Pass on a hug to Jen when you are not driving next (y) x

What a horrendous thing for your Mum to go through! It was bad enough when my nephew nicked some money from my Mum (92) just before Christmas and the concern that caused so can't imagine what you and your wife must be going through with not being there.

I can understand your thinking about tootling back but in reality you are very unlikely to be able to enjoy anything you do so I'd suggest getting back as quickly as you can (sensibly) so Jen can see her Mum ... you simply cannot underestimate the need to be there 'in the flesh' for both Jen and her Mum. Your Mum may say she's okay but she won't be ... it will hit her at some point and the practicalities of it all will need to be seriously discussed too and dealt with.

So sorry to read about this, Martin. Hope Jen's Mum is making a good recovery. It's so difficult when you don't live nearby. Maybe you could get her into some sort of respite care, until she feels confident enough to be alone. She may find that she likes the security of it.
I think you've made the right decision to meander homewards.
Wishing you all the best.

Sorry to read this & nothing to say that hasn't already been said. Hope that Jens Mum is soon on the road to recovery, physically at least.

Gutted for you both and Jens mum - would love to get my hands (and boots) on the sort of scum that do these dreadful things!

Hi folks only picked up on this from the morning thread ,it's a sign of the times I fear  words fail me.
Best wishes to Jen's mum .

I’m afraid Jim wouldn’t let me use the words I’m thinking!!
So sorry mate,, hope mum gets through it!!

Absolute scum!!

I'm on your wavelength I think.

Martin

If I said what I thought about people who can do this I would be banned from the internet for life.

Tough as old boots this generation.

If similar happened to my Mum / Dad my Mum would appear to cope but my Dad would go to pieces.

Please drive carefully @funflair

Just caught up with this thread after reading about David's attempted break-ins.
How can anyone consider doing that to an elderly lady who is still in her bed? Animals don't treat each other like that.
When/if caught the perpetrator should be put away and the keys thrown away. They don't deserve a place on this lovely planet.
Hope MIL recovers well from the shock. As others have said, that generation are a tough lot.

Best wishes to you all

Richard.

OK update time, thanks everyone for your thoughts, MIL sounds fine she says a bit achey but sounds in good spirits, she still has most of her jewellery as he took the big chunky stuff that was fake:LOL: he did get a three colour gold bracelet with lots of sentimental value but she has plenty left.

Anyway we are heading North slowly as things are in hand at home, we headed today for La Mailleray sur Seine and it was closed for the river level:mad: so we are at St Nicholas de Bliquetuit, nice looking town the other side of the river but can’t get across;) we have two mountain bikes a tandem and a scooter in the garage but no canoe:mad:

And And I have a confession,

I used a toll road:love: I know totally unprincipled it was only about 3 or 4 miles though €2.70 I said to the lady in the booth, yes a real person "class 3!!!" And she said YES.

Martin

EDIT and somebody flashed me today on the N10 just South of Chartre, sorry I was miles away but gave a late wave I think it was @colyboy as I recognised his backside as he drove away.

IMO the one on the end of the N154 is not worth avoiding, like the ones that take you around Biarritz.
