The “funflair’s” head South

I sincerely hope Jen's Mum fully recovers from this terrible ordeal.

What is this world coming to?

Good question, but I think we all know the answer.

Martin sorry to hear about Jen's mum I hope she's ok, you get some scumbags around don't you.

Matin and Jen

Terrible news - just caught up.

Big shock for you. Now to practicalities

Some you may have dealt with but maybe another person's thoughts are a double check.

Forget the scumbags/violent criminals - my first thoughts are your MiL injuries.

Is she in hospital? Was she kicked in the head? Have they done a scan?

Whether in hospital or not, is Jen's brother (and wife?) able to accomodate her and provide the care needed, possible with District Nurse help.?

At some point I suggest you advise MiL's Doctor and request he visits.

Only you and Jen can judge whether to fly back - probably too late this evening. I will look up where you are and see if I can suggest parking fot the Flair in case you want to

The police will deal with this in due course, but have they secured the crime scene? What crime are they treating it as - GBH? It would be as well when you have got MiL comfortable to get them to escalate the crime to attempted Manslaughter or Attempted Murder, in order to get Forensics to get really involved as it is almost impossible for a person to enter a property without leaving some forensic evidence.

Good luck with what you decide.

Sorry if you have all this covered and i am second-guessing but i am only going on info posted so far.

Best Wishes for MiL's quick recovery from the injuries and eventually from the trauma - but that will take time.

Thinking of you all

Geoff

Absolutely dreadful news Martin. Scum is too good a word for whoever has attacked Jens mum. Some things are truly sickening, this is one of them.

Hoping she has no lasting injury and she fully recovers.

I hope you are both coping ok as well.

Take care x

Hi Geoff

Firstly thank's so much and then yes you have to go through the practicalities, I have deleted your details from this post but you can delete them from the original as well please, can't be too carefull(y)

She had a bit of a roughing up but he pulled out the telephone wires so she had to go next door, they called the police and the Ambulance came and checked her over then her own doctor visited so all is well on that front apart from shock which might not have hit yet but she won't be on her own.

We have only done a day's drive so we can drive back OK but again thanks, her Mum said don't come straight back but then also said don't stay away 6 weeks though so it looks like "funflair's" are heading North(y)

He certainly got away with some jewellery as she threw the box at him along with some choice words, but the most valuable ring rolled out of sight and the Police found it.

We still need to find the spare set of keys for the car as we don't want that going walkabout, the iPad is still there which is not worth a lot but login passwords are stored so that one less problem.

Apparently he let himself in via an externally glazed window in the utility room via tools from the garden shed, he removed the glass and placed it carefully on the ground and then got the keys from a pot inside and let himself in then going upstairs and finding her in bed at just gone 6:30 am. They have a fairly tight time frame and the guy up the road has CCTV so the Police are checking that, other than that I don't know what they are doing, I don't think our hearts are really in travel mode at the moment so will see what is what when we get back but Jens Brothe is staying in the house, which I guess answers the crime scene bit.

Anyway thanks for the thoughts.

Martin and Jen

That’s shocking:(

I hope she is ok.

It certainly makes you think, I suppose we knew the place was vulnerable when she was out but she didn't want an alarm but I don't think that in our wildest imagination this scenario came into our heads.

Don't have nightmares, sleep tight.

Martin

Martin and Jen,
What an awful experience for Jen's mum and all of you too.

No more can be said really other than I hope they catch the low life as jail is not a nice place for this type of criminal even today.

But most of all I hope she recovers soon and puts it behind her.

Desperation greed drugs? I don't know. We were only there last week and would have been in the bedroom next door BUT I am trying to think of what weapons I would have had close to hand, must take up baseball.

Martin

Oh your poor mother Jen, please pass on love and best wishes so she knows that most of the world is still decent and that even people who don't know her, care about her.

Of course only you know how you feel, but consider a quick flight home to give her a hug and a kiss, and then decide whether or not to take on the rest of your trip.

Sounds like the intruder knew where to find the keys???

That is truly terrible, bloody thug picking on an elderly lady. I hope mum is not too traumatised.

Martin

Thanks for your reply.

I am glad she got checked over medically including her own Doctor so that aspect is covered.

Now BiL is there she should feel secure, but as you say shock may be a bit delayed.

I can understand you will not feel in travelling mood. If it were me I would have a coupleof relaxing nightcaps and forget decision about returning until you wake up tomorrow. I have seen where you are, near Orleans so you could be back over the Channel by tomorrow afternoon if you so decide.

Thanks for deleting my personal numbers - I was in time to edit them out too. I would normally have sent them on a PM but thought time might be short and you could not look at everything.

Now I can tell you why I moved fast to respond; Basia's Mother is 96 and lives on her own. I always worry when we get an unexpected call, not that she is vulnerable to what MiL just experienced, because she is on the first floor and has multiple locks, strict instructions not to open to anyone not expected, and Basia's mobile number by the answerphone. But you can imagine that there are other possible worrying calls - fortunately the lady who takes her for walks lives in the next block. My credit card would have Basia on the next available flight - even if it meant a light aircraft charter to a major airport, if the situation warranted.

Now you and Jen have a cup/glass of what you fancy and try to relax and I hope you sleep OK. Decisions are for tomorrow.

Goodnight.

Geoff

How awful a poor defenceless lady so so sad.:(

Shocking, really sorry for her and you. But, there's always a but, could've been a lot worse. Thankfully it wasn't.

OK back on thread I could have added "toll free" in the title but you would all guess that anyway;)

So we crossed Hull Zeebrugge and then put Marboue into the sat nav, out of the Port and filled up with Diesel at €1.29/l and gas at €0.475/l then on and past Bruges and then follow A17 past Lille and then hang a right A21 and D928 to Abbeville before joining the A28 after the toll section (y) straight into Rouen, over the bridge and then follow the Zone Industrial signs, past the cows on the roundabout and you are through they have certainly improved that section of road since we first did it dragging a caravan behind us, after Rouen it's basically N154 Evreux, Dreux, Chartres and then the N10 to Marboue not a bad run, a few villages and a few roundabouts but not boring motorway all the way 320 miles from 9:30 am to 5pm so just a days work and no overtime.

Strangely whenever we have stopped at the Marboue Aire it has been busy but tonight there is nobody else here, the last time we were her two vans were broken into so alarm on tonight I think.

Oh Please!!!! What is it with these scumbags?
They deserve a good smack!
:punch::punch::punch:

I hope the shock doesn't bring her down ☹

Disgusting. How a man could hit any woman , let alone an 85 year old lady is beyond me. Scum.
I hope she’s not too badly injured and mentally scarred by the terrible ordeal she has suffered.

Dreadful news :(.
Things seem to be in hand, so no need for a mad dash back - but I suspect you're no longer in holiday mode.
