Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

I find the French rarely move over to give you space whether you are walking or riding.
My big hate when on my bike are the ‘rats on a rope’. Usually on a long wind out lead with the dog one side of the track and the owner on the other.

I fully sympathise with you Tam.

Richard.

Pas problem Monsieur.

En avance de 50m anonnce 'Passage!' 'Passage!'

...and keep going.

When we invaded France in 1945 why did we not keep the territory we occupied - there was no legitimate government there then, as De Gaulle was hiding in London.

I love the French people but their governments have been duplicitous.

Richard, I had a similar situation a couple of years ago on the Loire just upstream from Briare. Biked over a bridge that went over a canal and on going down the down slope I could see two men ahead on the verge on my left, with their backs to me, deep in conversation. On the opposite verge I then saw a small dog running in the long grass so, thinking that it may run back across the road in front of me (always expect the unexpected), I slowed down a touch. As I got almost up to them I suddenly noticed that the man nearest the road, with his hands down by his side, was holding a dog reel with the cord (same colour as the tarmac) running to the dog! I hit my brakes hard but ended up skidding past them taking the cord, nearly wrenching the reel out of his hand and choking the dog! They didn’t say anything but knew they were in the wrong. It would have been much more serious if it was a car taking the cord.
David.

Don’t know how my reply all ended up in the QUOTE. Tried to edit to correct it but to no avail.

I should have very sleepy doggies today

I've also done a cycle

Have to admit though I like this town.

Compared to some tourist places like beni etc it's very clean tidy and nice beaches etc here.

I'd live here

Actually totally illegal here in spain as the actual law states 2m maximum from persons shoulder to dogs collar.
So lead can't really be more than 3'.

Whether I am cycling or walking on a legal path for either, when a group approach me line-abreast taking up the whole path I keep going until I stop right in front of them so they are forced to go around - I think that is politer than running into them, which is what my primaeval instinct would do.

Equally if cyclists take up the pavement I am walking on, I stop, lean my shoulder in for the contact. I was stationary on a footpath.
I never move for cyclists if they are on the pavement,,Just point out to them there is a clue in the name,,its a footpath. Nothing against them using pavement if the road is dangerous but they should give way to pedestrians like i do..BUSBY:D2

It's a cycle path with a bike painted on it every 10 yards and big signs saying cycle path. Right next to it is a 5 metre wide pavement and the nuggets still can't stay off the cycle lane.

And when folk stop to the shoes or take pics etc you'd think common sense would say stand in to the side not stop right in the middle of the path ...but nah let's stop where it's the least convenient.

I blame British health and safety ...they've wrapped folk in cotton wool so long they haven't a clue how to self preserve .
Thought you were in SPAIN:D2:D2,,Have seen LUCKY LUCKY men put their wares out for sale on cycle tracks,,i just cycle round them.Very seldom use cycle tracks on promenades now..One from Castelon to Benicasim is an exception, ,BUSBY.

Even better when they walk their dogs round shows on long leads....
What about the ones that push their dogs round in dog prams at the indoor markets at Warners Rallies Shows, the prams are as wide as the isles  I got so fed up with them I ended up getting blocked by the same woman so many times, I just looked at her and said "Really?, get a life woman" needless to say I dint get invited over for tea:whistle2:

Prams pushchairs and bloody handbags,,could understand it if dog was sick or injured but usually healthy dogs..Have heard them say well its only a small dog,,cricket our small Yorky could do 15 miles with no problem, ,BUSBY

A friend of mine in Wales had a trekking centre, her Yorkie did 20 miles behind the horses most days through the season.

Mine have done about 10 on foot today lol

And 5 in the trailer :p

Well you should be keeping pretty fit, don't overdo it with Milo tho, he's still only a baby. You'll wear his little legs down to his elbows.

Can you not train either Jade or Milo to pee on every sand castle?
Then you can turn things around, by asking the Lucky, Luckies for a handout to stop them peeing on them.
Cant see those sand sculptures last long in the UK, if the vandals didn't wreck em, the bloody wind at the moment would.

Hmm, don't know what to say to that, I would rather him running on the beach or tracks rather than pavement but I guess tracks over here are pretty solid and unforgiving anyway. So I guess he must be left with the choice.

He needs to wear those claws down anyway my legs are scratched to bits with the bugger

Puppies claws can be exceedingly sharp, sometimes they just need the points clipped off them, which is easy to do especially if he has white $pink toe nails as it's easy to see the quick then. But it only needs the very tips taken off

Aye but his claws are black and I don't want to risk cutting in to the quick they are wearing down though so will get there.

Don't think he walked much in the shelter

That's probably right, but you would be in no danger of getting near the quick if you just took the very pointed tips off.
My younger dog uses her paws very like a cat, so if she wants to get you attention she reaches out with a paw (read claws) and rakes down which ever bit of you she comes in contact with, it is extremely painful.

I hate to mention it but you could clicker train him to sit at your feet when he wanted to be picked up, then he wouldn't jump up and scratch you. :).
Remind me if you get here and we can do it then. :D2

My dog just turned 16 and really struggles to walk far, and is just a bit too big to carry any distance. So I am considering a pushchair for shows etc. (Especially when it’s too hot to leave him in the Moho). But I’m going to have a sign made up to put on it:
"I am 16 years old, would you be surprised that a 100 year old human was pushed around at a show in a wheelchair?”
I agree there are a lot of people who push them around probably unnecessarily, but unless you ask each one, you really don’t know...

As does milo usually bouncing on his back legs and shredding mine with his front.

We just had our morning walk and walked along to where I parked at Malaga last year ...It's only 3.8km by foot but 7 by van.
It takes you right past the nudist beach which is always entertaining but I draw the line at some old dude completely naked coming over to pet the dogs when I was sat on a rock......not pleasant.

They should sleep for a while now so I can go do some sunbathing for a couple of hours
