Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

So the latest wee things I've been doing

I fitted the main beam light bar a few weeks back so I fitted some led drl lights either side of it .....and some new bright white led sidelight bulbs .

And the latest thing I'm experimenting with is in this pic ....should be easy to spot .....but I can't decide if I like it or not ....

What do you think.? I thought in sunnier climes it might be beneficial and for privacy but I'm not sure if its aesthetically pleasing or not.

Opinions please

So the main beam light bar, do you just run it off the main headlight cable or is it more complicated than that.
Is it just a long version of the small DRL’s ?

Mine is wired via a relay to the wiring on the main beam bulb ....you can do it without a relay but its safer to use one

I’m in exactly the same boat...can’t go until Mid October now as job has come up. I think Sept, Oct, Nov will be OK in your plan but I think Dec,Jan, Feb in Greece will be less good although your friends seem to think it is OK so I could be wrong. I reckon Dec, Jan, Feb in Morocco like PhilandMena said will be a whole lot nicer (weather wise). If Greece had exactly the same weather as Morocco I would choose Greece...so it’s all about the weather....if you could get across to Crete maybe a bit better...but even then.

I agree about Greece in Jan/Feb. Also a lot of places like cafes/restaurants will be closed, although the ones that are open will give one a good insight into local Greek life and at local prices. That last bit will probably not affect Tam on his remote beach, but spending a fw bob even in a cafe enables one t ask for a 20lt water fill - never been refused.

Yes, Jan and Feb are always the most difficult months...except Morocco..haven’t done that yet but will do soon. In some ways I’d prefer to do Jan/Feb on a Caravaniege or on and Austria ski site....there’s a lovely one in Soll where they hook your gas tanks up with their underground gas pipes so you never have to dig your van out of the snow. Of course Winter camping in the snow has its own set of issues but I find it great...especially if you like skiing or even snow shoe walking. And of course not that cheap. Of course for Tam very difficult if you only like wild camping..although did stay for 2 weeks at an aire (car park) near Val d’isere once. Hard work though especially if you don’t have a generator.

Hmm...got a feeling I may end up with no lights at all. When you say wired to...is it just a matter of cutting the cable and stripping back the wire, twiddling the wires together and then wrapping around with electric tape ? I somehow suspect not...are there special connectors or something.

Here’s my daughter coming back from the shower block....probably thinking “How did I end up with a Dad like this”...all many years ago though....refillable gas tanks didn’t even exist then....used to have to lug the cylinders out of the van in the icy cold...dunno how I did it...maybe Greece IS the better option 😊

Ha ha ...no that is for cowboys I fitted piggy back spade terminals to the original wiring all done properly ...

so anyway back to the sink saga

My heed is pure nippin

But I've now passed the point of no return 🤦‍♂️ so onward we must go

After a good soaking ...several swear words and a lot of hassle I managed to remove my sink completely.....

For anyone doing this be aware it is not as straight forward as it looks .. the sink is screwed to the wall behind the mirror
Getting the mirror off in one piece is no mean feat.....i wasn't aware of this and did the heavy handed approach wiggling and flexing the sink to force i off ....and its only by pure luck I didn't break the mirror.

But its off and the area stripped out .....i just need to find a couple of bolts to put in the water pipes for now so I can still use my shower and kitchen sink etc

So here's the bathroom bombshell lol

So sitting the sinks side by side you can see the one I've bought is completely different
Luckily the guy has said he will either modify the sink or refund it ....im going for a refund and I will order one elsewhere as I'm not impressed with the overall finish.

Time to contact grp leisure

So I suppose popping round for a coffee.....is definitely out!!
I am getting stressed 😥 just looking at the photos.
At least I know who to call on if when it’s my time for certain repairs 😁😁😁👍👍

Why is it that everything I do or try to do with my van to improve or repair there are hurdles?

So the new sink arrived this morning .....it doesn't fit

Its at least 30mm short on the width and the rear panel is bowed rather than straight and as unlike the original one that has a bit that tucks under the mirror this one doesn't so no idea how you would fix that to the wall

Overall the quality of the finish is also not that great :( its certainly more rigid and I think less likely to break than the thin plastic original . ..but it doesn't fit.

When I asked the guy if he did hymer sinks and supplied him with pics of my original one he simply said yes ...he didn't ask for sizes or measurements so I assumed they were a standard size ....After all I have one hymer ive not measured the sinks in others

I'd have assumed as a sink maker he would have asked if he suspected different sizes

So my old sink is now completely unusable as knowing this one was arriving today I'd started stripping it out and found around the drain area was a cracked etc so its knackered.

And I've waited 2 weeks for this one 🙁

I've contacted the seller and sent him these photos so I will see what he says now ....but I'm not happy ...View attachment 406096View attachment 406097View attachment 406098View attachment 406099

Ha ha...no you're always welcome to pop round for a coffee ....to be fair I'm no longer stressed the one ive bought is being collected by courier Monday and I'm getting a refund , old one is all out waiting a new one which hopefully grp leisure can now supply....

which hopefully grp leisure can now supply..
check the measurements with them before ordering. & before you install the new one if where the tap fits flexes slightly do what I did & fibre glass in a metal plate with over size hole for the tap. Makes a world of difference. With the outlet I'd also reinforce that with extra fibre glass before fitting. goes off overnight so doesn't take much longer

Yes once bitten and all that I will be checking the measurements before ordering.

I've had a reply back from grp leisure and while he does the standard sink he does not do the modified one 🙁

So now I don't know what to do .....

If the only person that makes modified ones is the guy I bought this one from then I don't want it as the quality is crap

I need a new sink thats for sure and I would prefer a modified one for the extra space

But who does them ....and does them properly

Can you not get one like the one I have in mine... it swivels out on a pole ?

There are a number of companies that will do GRP one-offs if you have the original as a pattern. Why not contact a few to see if they'll take it on?

Tam is it just the finish you were not happy with. Was going look into getting one made but think I will wait now.

Yeah I know but I can get a replacement the same as mine no problem.....its getting one that has the front chopped off to save space i would have liked

To be honest if it had arrived and was the right size I probably wouldnt have looked so closely at it ...but when I did theres lots of little imperfections....not sanded properly etc and mishaped.

The one from grp leisure looks a better finish but hard to tell from photos.

I may have to just go with a standard replacement as I can't wait too long to fit it

The joys of fulltime i need the sink and mirror etc in bathroom

As it is its around a 7 to 10 day turnaround for one as they make to order

I'm sure most places that do moulding will be used to customising a pattern
Aye you would think so but grp leisure refuses to do any modified ones he just copies originals and makes them a bit stronger

This is his one

Tam
There are fibre glass specialists around
If you have the template
They will do the best job.
I have a contact in Kirkcaldy that might help 🤗

Derek justice from grp leisure is saying he would make a mould if a few folk were interested in a modified one

Is your van and sink the same one as mine ?

Sorry Tam...last question on this before I lose the bit in the thread...is it one relay thingy per light or do I only need one relay switch thingy ? I assume I’ll need a crimping Tool as well to crimp the wires into the spade ends ?

Would be worth posting on F/B group
to see if anybody is interested in modified version.

Well Derek justice is saying he's busy at the minute and could not do a special for a good few weeks yet which is no good for me as I need my sink and mirror lol

So I think I'll just order the standard replacement.....the extra space would have been nice but I've managed nearly 2 years with it how it was.
