I parked overnight in Banff near the harbour...around 10pm this dodgy looking guy knocked on my door and asked if he could use my toilet lol .Mum looks like shes enjoying Banff. Maybe I was being to harsh on the place.
Now Macduff, Macduff is a real shithole. Nothing but burned out hotels and dodgy looking chinese takeaways.
I'd be careful about feeding him, if it makes him sick the hook might get caught in his throat as it comes up.It's a bit of a nightmare this really...I've just phoned again and they basically say the hook is moving slowly but isn't out yet .....I asked how long it's likely to take and she says about 12 hours but it's been 21 hours already and they aren't feeding him etc and he will be distressed.
So now they are saying I can take him home for tonight and take him back tomorrow for an x ray to see where it's gone.
So I'm going back to the vet I'm half an hour or so to pick him up.
Personally I think some food and a walk would be better than him locked up in a cage with strangers .
But I'll see what they say
Yeah I've told them both ..The next time they fancy fish to let me know I'll take them out to a restaurant we can all have a 3 course meal and I'll have 3 bottles of red wine ...still be cheaper than the bit rotten fish off the beachSounds like the vet was only going through the motions.......................sorry, couldn’t resist the obvious.
€150 and leaving you to properly go through the motions.
Hope both of them will be OK.
Richard
Yeah I know just a few things bugged me , this animal hospital is open 24/7 and says it's walk in which I did so why charge €50 emergency consultation ?Don’t be too hard on the vet. They could have decided to do an immediate operation, costing a fortune and adding to the risk.
Be positive, looks like you’ve still got your dog in one piece.
Good idea that with the pooMain thing Tam is he is alright and won't have to undergo major surgery!
If you are thinking of staying in Portugal or Spain you will need to accept that the majority of people have a different attitude to animals (dogs in particular ) to us. They mostly live outside and don't share their homes so they are not worried if they have a bit of sh*t on them.
Cleaning him up and examining his sh*t isn't the nicest task, but put on some disposable gloves if you have any, if not some polythene bags will do just as well and breathe through your mouth.
Thinking on- do your poo picking behind him in a clear plastic bag, only knot it losely , once back at the van, undo it, half /three quarters fill the bag with water. Seal it up and agitate to a thin sh*t soup consistency. The hook should be easy to spot.
Good luck.
Do you think it was in case he sicked the hook up and couldn’t eat it again with the cone on?Langtoftlad I was wondering the same thing myself .
I would assume as Langtoftlad says he was kept in while the hook passed down through his intestines - the most dangerous time for him after that if intervention is needed it is comparatively simple and not life threatening.
Why we're you charged a €50 emergency consultation - coz thats
Wise words Val.€50 emergency consultation - coz that's what you had. :A fully qualified experienced vet, an X Ray and his time.
Years ago I was paying £30 an hour to get my inanimate vehicle looked at by a mechanic! He hadn't under gone a fraction of the training that vet had!
Yes, they were open anyway but he'd maybe just sat down and put his feet up toward the end of a busy day, or started on his tax returns or had to phone his wife to tell her he was going to be late home again.
€50 is peanuts to have those people and that facility available.
Get real and be grateful Tam!
Sorry, but maybe you need to think a bit more deeply before passing judgement.
I hope I haven't caused offence.
I'm not really up on dog's anatomy so but I'm not sure if once the hook had passed through his stomach into his intestines it is a physical possibility to "sick it back up" ( isn't this why anorexics excuse themselves from the table mid meal or immediately afterwards as left too long, throwing up is no longer a possibility?
The cone doesn't prevent them eating, just from licking or chewing themselves.
I too was wondering why he was having to wear it.
