Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

No such luck I'm afraid ..
It's right In his stomach , so I have to leave him overnight till the food in his stomach has gone...then they can try an endoscopy if the hook is still in his stomach , if it moves to the intestine he may need surgery.

Absolute nightmare.....they have charged me €91 already just for the consultation and hospitalization etc

Hate to imagine how much the final bill will be.
Every goddamm month it's something whether it's the van or the damm dugs

I'm fed up telling them to leave stuff on the beach...or anywhere for that matter. And they just run off with it.
So from now on they will have a very boring life as they won't be off leads or they will be getting muzzled....
I'm also worried incase jade has also swallowed anything and just doesn't have line attached

Poor Milo... The Cone of Shame

Whatever the cost, worth every penny (as I'm sure you'll agree privately).

That last piccy is heart breaking Tam you can see the fear and worry in his eyes.
That Hook doesn't look like it's got a barb on it, love him and be gentle with him Tam.
I don't know who I'm praying to but I'm praying for him. Please keep us posted, even if you only want to talk and not be on your own, we are all here for you. And for fs stop being so bloody macho.

Bloody duggs ....I love em but I could throttle him...now jade has s no idea what's going on she's keeping going round the van looking for him ... he will be terrified thinking I've abandoned him ...im worried sick in case the hook moves and he needs surgery as they have to anesthatise him for that.
I'm in a shitty carpark below some really dodgy looking flats as it's the closest I could find to the vet as I've to go back at 10am to see what happens next.

At least with children you've the hope they can at least understand what you're saying to them

Dogs just look at you like you're stupid

Who's bright idea was it to get dogs ...

Sorry to hear about this and fingers crossed Milos OK and they can remove it without surgery.
I hate folk who discard old tackle like that, especially if still baited.
So do I. I regularly pick them up when at the dam above Lorca.

That poor sad little face... give Jade lots of cuddles, there's nothing you can do now until tomorrow. Sending you all lots of hugs :hugs:

Oh poor Milo. He must feel very frightened. You are just getting agitated because you love him and are worried.

Don’t keep them on the lead all the time, they need to run free some of the time.

Hope you are safe in your parking spot.

Well I'm no further forward at the minute.
Walked down to the vet around 9.30 didn't get to see him but a different girl showed me another x-ray that shows the hook has moved further down. She says they dont know at the minute if still in stomach or entered first part of intestine, he hasn't had anything to eat as they said that makes an endoscopy more difficult and that he had some diahorea through the night.
She's pretty much saying they are just keeping an eye on it to see if it passes through by itself as if it's inside poo it shouldn't cause a problem .....And to call back around 4pm

I'm confused as last night they claimed once all food out stomach they were going to do endoscopy and I expected that to be done overnight.

If they just going to let it pass through him surely I could have just done that myself.
Obviously I'd prefer him not to need surgery etc but that's not what the first vet said last night.

So will just have to wait and see I Guess

Oh dear, poor Tam, the worry continues. Language differences won't make it any easier .
Various thoughts occur to me- Milo is safer in the vets, if the hook moves causing him immeadiate danger or distress he is in the right place : them not doing anything overnight will have saved you an even larger bill.
It's tough Tam,but you really do need to be patient - if he has only had a little diarrhoea overnight his stomach probably is still not empty. Under normal circumstances his next meal would have assisted the moving onwards of the previous stomach contents.
Sorry Tam but it might have to be a long waiting game.
Thinking of you ,Jade and little Milo, be strong and trust the God of little stray dogs is watching over him.
Val xx

What a worry for you but that does sound as if there's a reasonable chance it will pass through without intervention. And as Val says, he is in the safest place in case they need to intervene.. It's going to be a long day for you and Jade...try to keep busy.....xx

It’s a very worrying time for you, Tam. There isn't an owner who loves and cares for his dogs like you do. We know Milo will make a quick recovery with you by his side. Best wishes to you and Jade and a special message for Milo: -
Hope you get your wag back soon!

Oh Please! I feel for you
My worst nightmare hope e
Sat in the vets panicking after a crazy drive through the narrow streets of portimao.

Milo has swallowed a fishing hook and it's stuck somewhere .....big piece of fishing line hanging out mouth and he's keeping choking and trying to be sick...
Nurse rushed him away to vet I'm sat in waiting room ?

Bloody dogs ....and bloody fisherman dumping crap behind them

I knew this would happen at somepoint ...

Unfortunately Tam, these things are not black & white, but a judgement call.
I would say you're at a good vets as they seem to be observing rather than be keen to cut & generate a larger bill.
I'm not surprised that a routine procedure was not done overnight... it's likely they'd only do emergency operations out of hours. Be thankful that was not deemed necessary, because that would have been a nightmare bill!
To my untrained eye, it looks as if the hook is travelling down the digestive system the 'right way round' ie blunt bit first... so fingers crossed he can pass it safely [especially if its encased in nice squidgy poop]

Safer with vet. Without occasional X-rays you would have no idea what it was doing. It sounds like it might just make it through.

Fingers crossed mate good luck.
Nightmare situation to be you fell helpless.
Our daughters Springer had habit of swallowing stones nine time out of ten brought then back up, not so easy with hook. First stone she had stuck cost £3½k at the vets but insurance paid.

Mum's away in the MH with my sister again. They are up at Banff for the weekend.

She's looking great ......improving all the time View attachment 326638View attachment 326639

Now for the funny part .....the 2 pics above are from just now today

The pic below is from 2016 lol View attachment 326640

Same clothes and everything ha ha .....But just goes to show she's nearly back to her old self

EDIT sister says the clothes were deliberate so they could take the same picture.

I didn't get that at first I thought it was accidental..

Either way I'm really chuffed ? considering we nearly lost her at Christmas
She is looking amazing and I swear younger.

Oh shite Tam, poor Milo.

You'll be fine, don't forget that your a scary Scot, I know what they are like as I live with one.

I hope to read good news about wee Milo soon.
Gabby & Gus send their love.

It's a bit of a nightmare this really...I've just phoned again and they basically say the hook is moving slowly but isn't out yet .....I asked how long it's likely to take and she says about 12 hours but it's been 21 hours already and they aren't feeding him etc and he will be distressed.

So now they are saying I can take him home for tonight and take him back tomorrow for an x ray to see where it's gone.
So I'm going back to the vet I'm half an hour or so to pick him up.
Personally I think some food and a walk would be better than him locked up in a cage with strangers .
But I'll see what they say
