Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

And we thought
How did you manage that, the first time we went to Portugal a couple of years ago when we went back into Spain we were shocked at how much more expensive Spain was after Portugal.
And we thought just the opposite this year,,especially on The Algarve,,BUSBY.

On the Algarve a couple of years ago at one place we were getting a 3 course meal ½ wine each & coffee or €8.50, if you had fish you got a whole sea bass or 2 mackerel or 2 sea bream.

Just in case you don’t know, some Intermarche supermarkets in Portugal have dump points, not sure if all do, plus their fuel is the cheapest in our area, so may be in the rest of Portugal. In our local restaurant we pay €8 for the plate of the day, olives, bread, soup, drink, main course, dessert and coffee. Others we pay €8 or less.

There’s lots of river beaches set up over Portugal, lovely swimming spots with bbq areas, all for free.

I have to say I never saw any of these meal of the day things in Portugal that cheap last year , I saw loads in Spain but the ones I saw in Portugal were usually just 1 course.

Might have just been the places I was but I'll keep an eye out

Need to be round the back streets and off the tourist trail.

Yep I found Portugal a lot more expensive last year. I also never had to pay for an aire or water in Spain but can't see any free aires all along the Algarve but hey ho.

The French have arrived and in true form they have crammed 2 motorhomes in to the space where one was before so I now have one 7 inches off my bike rack lol

Satellite dish up tables and chairs out within 2 minutes of parking lol :p

Alcohol in the shops is more expensive in the supermarkets but is cheaper in most bars, 33cl Super Bock or Sagres still €1 in a lot of places, even less in some. Excellent coffee is cheaper in bars and cafes.
Food shopping is very similar, some things vary a bit but not much,Pingo Doce always have lots of offers, Algartalhos is a smaller chain with usually smaller shops but are very competitive.

The number of cafes/ restaurants in the Tavira area offering the all inclusive lunch menus has decreased over the last few years and the 'Prato do Dia' can be confusing, mostly just the main dish but sometimes all inclusive. Bread, olives, sardine pate etc are usually placed on the table but if you don't eat them you won't be charged if not having the inclusive menu, wine is usually ridiculously cheap

Is there such thing as a satellite jamming device? imagine the fun you could have watching them rushing in and out looking at the dish, scratching their heads, switching it on and off, would keep me entertained for hours!!

Let them watch 5 mins then turn it on again

Yeah that would keep me amused also lol

Peace us ruined now though lol ....one of these woman laughs at anything and boy is she loud.
Once my washing is dry I'm off lol

I look at photos on here and realise that there is nothing, absolutely nothing, that attracts me one bit to tour those parched barren sandy lunar wastelands in Spain and Portugal. I like a bit of rain, green rolling countryside and rivers. "Chacun............ " so forth.

Get away from the touristy areas, I know you like the coast, but get inland and experience the real Portugal, it’s not only JJ that says that.

Hopefully you will come to our area and give us a visit, we will personally treat you to a prata de dia. Three years ago we were only paying €6, the year after it was €7 and last year it went up to €8. Probably be €9 by the time you get here but even that’s a good deal. We know other places cheaper. How about a Galao (‘ao’ sounds like ow in cow) (milky coffee) for 60 cents. Usually pay €1 to €1.20.

A lot of free Aires here n Portugal, you just need to get away from the coast. We found it’s the same in France, get near the coast and you pay for Aires.

But there are some very nice beaches and sights on the west coast. Much quieter than south obviously.

Can't tell the difference with Gin,now Whisky it must be Ardmore..BUSBY??
Don't like whisky but Lidl €4.15 Gin puts a lot of expensive ones to shame.
Like the Spanish liqueur 43 but €13 a bottle in Spain.

Yeah I did the full west coast last year. I want to go up the east so I can dive back in to Spain here and there as I've not done west Spain either.

So tonight I've ended up in a wee dump called fuseta........seems really busy but not sure why unless there's a part I've not seen.
Can't believe 9pm and it's pitch dark

Is it dark in UK just now?

Yep that's the one thing I don't like about Portugal, UK time.

Fuseta is a typical small Portuguese fishing town, some might call it 'real Portugal', there's not much there admittedly but we like it, short train ride from Conceicao, lunch in one of the 'real Portuguese' restaurants, bit of a walk round, train back to Conceicao, nice day out:)

It's also going dark in Spain not many miles from you but they call it 10 O'clock, time is relative:)

So I was just reading about havelock on the news.

It's weird but every company I've ever worked for is no longer in business.

I started with taggarts motor group at 16 and they closed the branch down when I was 17.5
Then I worked for a company called lochleven garage .....I left at 19 and they went out of business just a year or so later.

Meadow motors self drive ...I was there 2 years ....a year later he was bust

Then simclar international I was there 9 years......it closed down for good a few years back

JRJ distribution.....I worked for them for 14 months.....2 years later went in to liquidation

Sanmina sci.......11 months and they shut down.

Then havelock ......I was there 12 years , resigned Dec 2017 they went in to administration last year got saved and now it looks like the have gone bust for good

Even the handful of takeaway places I used to work for have closed or changed owners lol

I was either a curse or a good luck charm that once I left they collapsed lol

But keep that under your hat as I need to return to some sort of work after Christmas ?

Jonah!!!
A long-established expression among sailors uses the term, "a Jonah", to mean a sailor or a passenger whose presence on board brings bad luck and endangers the ship. Later, this meaning was extended to mean, "a person who carries a jinx, one who will bring bad luck to any enterprise."
