Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

I used to get 8mpg from my RV had it up to 12 mpg on a big run once. But would not go where that one would. Loving that, get to all the surf spots others could not. (y)
It is awesome I really like it....And it's very well built , I'd love a look inside but not sure if it would be a bit cheeky saying

oi mush gees a swatch o yer camper wid ye

I stayed for a week in Canet de Mar two years on the trot around '69 / '70 (motorcycle touring). I remember Franco was still in charge. The place was a small village with the start of a couple of hotels on the sea front. A railway ran between the (then) main road & the sea - we used it for a few trips into Barcelona.

They can lie on the sofas

Will be a couple of nights greif but will get there

Maybe- dogs don't always understand the logic of unlearning.- I think it smacks of unreasonable treachery to them
Not to mention demotion, remember alphas only share their beds with other alphas.
You gave them the promotion.

Well it's tough out there in the job market lol

But they aren't content getting a spot on the bed they have to abuse it ...jade even growls if you dare move her so it's about time they remembered their place

That's a common response from dogs that sleep on their human's beds, it's one of the most common factors in dogs showing aggression toward their owners.
You are not alone Tam.
I believe it is one of the rare occasions when instant return aggression is called for. Short, sharp, over and done with, as would be handed out by the pack leader.

In my mind it comes in the same category as the owner reserving the right to take away bones or any type of food from their dog, or to handle them all over at any time they (the owner )so desires.

I think we only did gallons in those days didn`t we ?
None of this litre nonsence

We still do.............. mpg ................. miles per gallon(y)

Indeed, mine try it on sometimes in the night, with me or each other, as soon as I shout at them all returns to normal, I never smack them, even if they are half my body weight each!

Have either of them actually snapped at you Tam?
Many years ago I knew a female dog trainer who was very effective, if a little unorthodox.
Her punishment, instant retribution, was to grasp the dog by the loose skin either side of the neck ( below their ears )and shake them vigorously. (Sufficiently to lift their front feet off the ground ).She would then release them and without a word or look march swiftly away.
The chastised dog would invariably rush to follow closely "at heel " never repeating it's misdemeanour.
She even used this method on dogs that routinely ignored the "recall " command.
She would call or whistle once , if ignoredwould then walk after them for as long as required, get hold of them, shake them and march away.
I never saw a dog ignore her a second time.

No they've never snapped or anything, jade just does a growling grumble type thing when I move her ...

Isn't shaking a dog a bit like shaking a baby ?

Tam

I thought you were crazy allowing it in the first place - 'rod for own back' etc.

Try doing that with a 90Kg Great Dane :)

I once arrived home late at night and walked into my parents bedroom in all my motorcycle gear , the Dane slept at the foot of the bed , didn't do that again :Eeek:

Shaking is perhaps the wrong word, "grasping firmly" might be more accurate, the head is definitely not being shaken, more like control of the body is being taken from the dog more like one dog would do to another.
One would have to be very careful with pups as small as your two, which is where I would instantly grasp them by the scruff of the neck, whilst saying "No" or "bad" in a sharp tone of voice and deposit the culprit on the floor unceremoniously.
Trouble is allowing the dogs on the bed is putting them as your equals,so therefore understandable if they grumble when you disturb them.

Mine have access to our bed during the evening. When we go to bed they get off and into their own beds after they've been told to do so (a few times - they have to wake up first:)). They do grumble a bit when shoved along the sofa though. There's no food or toy aggression but there's a tug-of-war with any soft toy they're holding. Any form of handling is fine by them. My only problem is with the two Whippets barking at anything that moves and with one of them prone to snapping at strange dogs and anything that moves quickly past him.

Well I originally only allowed jade to come in for a cuddle in the morning when I first got her and that's what we did all last year on my travels.
Then when I was at my mum's she wrecked the kitchen when I left her down there so I had her in a bed in the bedroom on the floor but she could jump up on it easy which she couldn't do in franky and I guess I got lazy telling her to get off.

Then when I got Toby she got used to lying down the bottom and I just left her

And then add Milo in the mix who runs around like a Muppet and they start play fighting etc.

So I'm putting my foot down and stopping it.

They didn't get in the bed at all last night and to be honest they weren't bad.

Milo was there trying to get in at 6am but he was just put back on the sofa 3 times and eventually he stayed there till I got up at 7.45

I'll just keep doing the same
