Tam n pups winter trip 2022

Still here he's now emailing the technical team at dvsa as the guy on the phone was useless.

He's adamant something changed regarding mot 2 years ago .

I'm tired of repeating the fact the log book says plg 2900kg and its been motd as a camper the last 15 years.

It has a full camper interior in it.

Wouldn't it be easier to take it somewhere else.
Only 2 garages around here that can do vans this size.

He's had an email back now saying it qualifies to be tested as a motorcaravan if they have the facilities to take the weight which they do .

But he's replied again for confirmation.

Doesn't like being wrong lol . But if they reply saying yes then he will test it

My mot was booked for 9am we've spent 2 hours on this

Can't see why it would matter if the back was full of bananas or campervan equipment as far as an MOT goes, they don't need to go in the back of the van!! That would have boiled my piddle very rapidly!!
Yep I'm losing the will to live as been here since 08.30. But I want it motd

Wait till they discover the ignition key is a screwdriver lol .

But I've checked that too and as long as it operates the steering lock it isn't an mot fail.

I will be sorting these things later but I want it motd so I can get the weights, taxation class etc all changed on v5

Says he's turned loads of customers away tae because it wasn't registered as a campervan so he's lost a load of money because he misinterpreted a dvsa email advising what changes effected a vehicle being granted motorcaravan status.

I did tell him at the start the v5 etc was irrelevant he didn't believe me . Dvsa have told him the same thing twice now. He even sent photos of the van to them lol and they said is qualifies as class 4 mot test

It's just checking the condition of the vehicle, he really is pedantic if he is going to worry about what's in the back.
Yep told him all that. Not sure of the issue I've come here for years. Mostly from lack of choice

Good luck. Not sure if your chances have increased because they feel guilty about keeping you waiting or you have no chance of a pass as they look a bit silly!
Ha ha well he is checking absolutely everything this time which I rarely see him doing with my motorhome. I mean they should but I've seen them miss the odd thing here and there. But it's good in a way as I want a good indication of its condition other than the bodywork etc. I just hope it doesn't fail on anything that's hard to get hold of. The steering box has been advised for years as having slight play in it but I think that's just the type of box they are and not much can be done . It's not done a lot of miles since last year either so hopefully nowt deteriorated in that time. Will see

5 hours to get an mot , because an mot tester is adamant he's right when he's wrong. I understand he wanted to do his job right etc but man it's frustrating. But at least I now know it has passed a very strict test as he tested everything.

In the end it has a reflector missing off the back bumper and the slight play in steering box it's had for years . Damm good for a 33 year old vehicle I'd say

Took some pics of underneath it too while I had the chance.

earning good money out of you aren't they
They still only got the £50mot fee , and it held up their mot bay for 5 hours so that's a few motors they won't get done today. But they've learned something

Looks like it's been well looked after.

Despite you causing all that hassle for him, he still let you down in the pit to take photos.
Not such a bad fella after all perhaps.
I wonder how many customers he gets trying it on.
Yeah I've known him for like 20 years , he just wouldn't believe me that it didn't have to say motorcaravan on the v5 or mot certificate to qualify as class 4 . He's a good guy Allan and it's his own business so effectively just covering his arse but even after the initial response from dvsa saying it qualified he still doubted it lol. But he apologised and said he will know in future when other vans come in . So probably did him a favour.

He always let's me down the pit because he knows I'm particular about my vehicles. I could count on one hand how many I've ever had fail as I give them a good going over before taking them in .

He was ok about it when I was arguing with him ...

I prepared him for that and I started it up for him . As long as the steering lock is still in operation etc it passes.

Apart from the sills it's in great condition underneath that's why I'm torn about building it as it's bulletproof and if welded up and protected it will outlast a lot of newer vans.
