Tam n pups winter trip 2022

Any more thoughts on the Vario?
Not yet, its going in for mot on Friday. Had it out for a wee drive yesterday to get some diesel and take the surface rust of the brakes etc. It's a different drive to the motorhome but so much easier to drive around ...if a little slow lol.

But it gets a lot of attention , everyone notices it probably because you don't see them everyday. I've mixed feelings with it.

A mate of mine just bought one it's an ex school bus, all windows! lol he's going to convert it but who knows when as he's mad busy with work, he's a joiner, a very good one at that so I'm sure it'll be fantastic when he does get it done but he loves it 🙂
He's just bought my electric bike of me as he's going to the Isle of Man TT soon and he's bought an old yacht to go back and forward in, he's buys as much aul shite as I do! 😂😂

Mixed feelings? What don't you like about it?

I love the old machines and I have a few old cars etc, but you can’t get away from how easy modern stuff is in day to day use when its working ok, nightmare when you can’t fix it yourself but I suppose that is the trade off, I love the usability of vans to drive and park etc. but two things are against them, continuity of insulation at a set thickness so that the thermal resistance is similar and the reinforcing of the walls etc. make them about 200mm narrower on the inside than the outside as opposed to about 80mm on a motorhom.

I suppose one of the things to consider is whether having an older Vario which you can repair easily if necessary (hopefully once in a blue moon) is worth the compromise on living space/comfort for 99.9% of the time.

What's weird for me was I started with a massive RV but it was totally impractical (especially here in Ireland! 😂🤣) so I bought a 9m van and went on to have a couple of those for 10 years or more but always liked the thought of a wee van (especially in city centres of places like Istanbul & Marrakech! 🤯) so I decided to have a go with one, sold the big van bought a wee van and after spending the last 3 & half months away in it I love it! Wouldn't have a big van about me again, so it's definitely horses for courses as CazPaul says

I'm still undecided what I want to do. All I know is I don't want a van as big as I have at present. And I'd prefer a merc or iveco rear wheel drive for a change. There's lots about the old merc I love but there's still a lot I'm unsure of so rather than jump in Feet first and possibly regret it I'm taking my time to decide. Meanwhile I want to get it motd and the dvla stuff sorted out . So not doing much to it right now. Meanwhile I'll just keep advertising the euramobil and if it sells it sells . Working so I can replenish my savings. The trick is not to do anything hasty. If the euramobil doesn't sell by the end of June I may remove most of the solar from it. The inverter charger etc and the refillable lpg and reduce the price a bit. I'll then fit the solar etc on my next van.

I my opinion, if you have to sell it.
Don't remove any of the equipment, but advertise it, with the reduced price.
If you get a buyer, remove the stuff, if not back to the blackboard.

Problem with that is folk want included what they see . And sometimes they want it there and then like when I sold the frankia. It's not a 5 minute job to remove all of this. Not contemplating that till end of June anyway .

I think if it had been under 3.5t I'd have sold it by now , that's the 4th person I've had messaging asking if it can be driven on an ordinary license

Hopefully it'll move soon Tam, at least your getting a bit of interest, it only takes one to buy 🤞

Mot day for the vario , I'm hoping it should pass OK but being the first one in my ownership you never know. I've checked everything I can and apart from the steering box play that it's had for 10 years I can't see hear or feel anything wrong with it. So fingers crossed , it's actually quite nice to drive once you get used to the lack of performance lol . But its smooth and doesn't rattle like the motorhome

Can it be chipped? 😃

Having arguments at the minute as they're refusing to test it as it doesn't say campervan on v5 .. they're claiming it needs certificate which is nonsense
I gave that a like because I agree they are talking nonsense, not that I’m an expert.
My van v5 didn’t show as a campervan and was never a problem. I think the garage referred to it as class 7 but I may be mistaken on that. Hope you get it sorted.
