Tam, Jade and Franky's European Adventure

Again more stuff I didn't know ....i thought she'd walk for miles lol.

Jees Millie is super cute lol

Bet she's fun wet

Mine always walked miles even when young,,didn't do them any harm,,Fox Terrier 17,,GSD 14,,Jack Russell 16,,Bearded Collie 16 when they passed away. All active until the end,,They all walked miles every single day of their lives,,BUSBY,,

I bet they could play the instrument though

Yes banjo, guitar, dulcimer . played Blue grass.
Find a length of clear plastic pipe that will just squish into it.

Then if you're daft enough you could thread LED strip through the pipe & make a feature of it.
He'd probably get that bloke @scousebird had knocking on the door at 3am looking for his 'cat'

Somehow missed this when you posted it. .always an idea but I think I prefer a cheap carpet runner option. .

Enough lights in here already and I only use 3 of them lol

View attachment 222448Like this? Daughter in India with Charlie as a pup! She picked him up from the roadside with a broken back and carried him around until mended and then brought him home. She was a volunteer vet in a clinic there and she picked him up expecting to euthanise him. It didn’t happen. Now 14 years later!

P.s. I was not informed about the scooter or the dog until too late for me to do anything about it!
What kind of dog is that ? He has lovely colours ?

@Northernraider re your chain jumping , have you checked that the derailleur changer hasn't been knocked backwards , and got stuck so it isn't wrapping the chain round the gear correctly ?

Yes I stripped it down today cleaned and lubricated it but it just doesn't seem to be gripping the chain.

There's a decathlon here where I'm parked so I'll take a look tomorrow and see if I can replace the cogs ...if not I'll need a new derailer I think.

Bike was going great too till I snapped the chain the other day. Repaired the chain now it's jumping whenever any strain

Which is most of the time

Is it a twistgrip selector , if so the sideways alignment might need adjusting on the deraileur mechanism .

It's those levers one to go up and one to go down. Seems to adjust fine but the chain can practically slide over the cogs

Pretty rare the gears to be worn , did you get the exact same chain
as pitch etc can vary ? The Bike shop guys will probably sort it :)

Didn't buy a complete chain just the connecting links as it has just broke one link.

I'll let the guys in decathlon have a look tomorrow and see what they say because as you say it's unusual ..
Will keep you posted.

Wrong direction I'm afraid Busby i was there last week but..im in murcia city just now , getting supplies for the dog then back to totana to collect the dog on Tuesday and then I'll be heading in to the Sierra for a few days.
Need to get the bike fixed before I pick up the dog preferably so needs to be here or totana.
Worse case scenario it needs a new derailer

Not that expensive so should be sorted tomorrow

But thanks for the information (y)

Tam, if you fit a new cassette fit a new chain as well, it’s only a five minute job to put a new cassette on.(y)
That’s if you have the right tools.:D

Most of those rubber backed hall runners, called dirt trappers, are washable. I have three in our camper as I don’t like the feel of sandy grit that you get on bare feet if there is just the laminate floor. However much I sweep the van out I can still feel it, although I do know I have very sensitive soles (and a sensitive soul:))
You can cut them to fit with scissors too.
Another vote for dirt trappers. I carpeted my last MH with them & the new owner thought they were brilliant so they went with the van. I've more waiting to be fitted to the living area of the new-to-me van.

A cassette?

Chain looks fine to be honest but if decathlon do repairs im gonna just give it to them to fix it i think while I go shopping for doggie stuff.

Tools I have plenty off lol ...ive been carting 2 big tool boxes all round Spain lol

A cassette is the rear gears, but you need two special tools to remove them, one to grip the gears and one to remove the lock ring.
Regarding the chain, you can’t tell if they are ok by look as they stretch but you can get a tool to check the pitch.
I used to strip my bikes down and replace all the chain set (front, rear, and shifters) every two years, but that was cycling 4000 miles a year.

PS. All bike chains are the same pitch, but you can get different widths.
Shimano did try to alter the pitch on one of their group sets but that was soon outlawed.

Tam, double damn that we're not in Totana cos Martin's pretty good with bikes :(. If you don't get it sorted before you get to Totana there is a good bike shop there.

Ah I get you now...those cogs seem fine it jist seems to jump through the derailer for some reason...
I'll see what decathlon comes up with

Parking is always my biggest issue :(

Alhama de Murcia may be better for you then.

Alhama bike is across from Aldi where you can park. Techbike is in the industrial estate, easy parking.

Bike Planet in Totana is near the top of the road coming straight through the middle!!! Approach via the by-pass and find somewhere to park and walk down to the shop. Look for Camino Los Molinos near the roundabout north of the bike shop, there are some large open areas there.

Well the trip to decathlon was as good as useless , I found a technician who coukd speak some English as although I'm learning Spanish naming bike parts and try g to explain the problem in Spanish is beyond me.
I explained what it was doing and stated that to get a proper idea you had to ride the bike as it does not do it simply pedalling it on a stand it needs resistance.

Did he ride it ....no

He pedalled it on a stand for 5 minutes running through all the gears wjich it did without issue as I knew it would.

Shook his head and said he woukd just replace everything the cassette the derailer and the chain .....but would take a week

I don't wish to rebuild the bike or wait a week

I'm pretty sure it's a simple problem that can be repaired cheaply so that was a fail

Off to China bizarre and pet shop now

Tam we're back in Totana on Saturday night. If you can do without your bike until after then Martin will take a look at it for you. If you're still in the area, that is!

Hi Tam....
If you have repaired the chain either with a split link or a proper link splitter, you could just have a "stiff link"....no comments from the crowd:D

A stiff link wont role round the sprockets on the rear mechanism and will slip!!!!!

You can check every link by hand, its messy, but the best way to find it. Just see if they swivel on the pins up and down. If you find the culprit, force it "sideways" back and forth GENTLY and it will free the link or links.
At least checking the links, will eliminate this possible cause

Good luck

Yep I thought that but doesn't seem to be ....it slips quite a bit and is unrideable at the minute :(

Anyway pushbike aside I think I may have gone a bit nuts in the pet shop .....muxh to the amusement of the people behind me in the queue:)

I think I got everything bar the food ....its also really difficult to remember what size a dog is when you've only seen it once so I hope these harnesses fit.
I bought one that can be used for walkies and one I'm hoping can attach to the seatbelt in the van for when she's riding Up front.

Cage looks massive I don't know where I'm gonna keep that.

Forgot to look for carpet runner and trellis I'll have to go back :banghead:

Tam - did your chain keep slipping before it broke or has the problem just arisen since?

When you fixed the chain did you use a new link? - if so it may be the wrong size/width and that could be causing the problem

Nope never slipped before and I took the chain in with me to get the new link , guy said it was fine and I fitted it no probs ...chain itself seems okay so does the rear cassette it just seems to slip through the cogs on the derailer for some reason.

I'm tempted just to buy a derailer and fit it myself but I'd hate to do that and still have the problem .....it can't be that complicated surely I mean it's basic mechanics compared to vehicles and I can fix them no bother.

Haydee is one lucky doggie. Well done Tam.

If it never happened before the chain broke but happens now I would try a new chain first before anything else - the breaking of the chain may have stretched or deformed one or two of the other links in it
