Tam, Jade and Franky's European Adventure

Are you staying there another night?

It might get busier soon as Semana Santa approaches!
Yes ill stay here tonight as there's a nice walk here im gonna do today and then I'm going to meet Silvia tomorrow at the refuge.
At the minute it's quiet here not many about
But then I'll likely go somewhere else for the weekend, maybe lorca see what's on tomorrow night for good Friday.

Took some lovely pics at the monestary yesterday but internet signal isn't great so can't upload them at the minute.

Just been reading your post, looks like you have had a great trip. I am still in the planning stage of buying a motorhome but cant wait till I can set off and do a trip like this! This site has some great inspiration on it. keep enjoying :)
Thanks ...good luck with you plans

Nice avatar pic ...brings back memories of my own veedubs.
Was that yours?

Good morning Tam
We scootered up to the Bateria de Castillitos from our site in Isla Plana yesterday. You are a much braver driver than I.Lots of cars up and down with a packed out carpark.Once commited there's no turning around.
I may follow in your footsteps to some of your posts but will study the routes carefully first !

Yes I think it's years of exploring dirt tracks in Scotland lol I tend to just try the roads and see....most of the time I've been fine only occasionally had to reverse back out.
Here it's often down to timing and depends on the day I've found. But siesta time is good for small narrow roads:)

A cycle tour we're planning for later in April is heading out that way towards Cazorla. Did you make it up yourself or did you have info?
I went on an organised tour though the CTC. We were given daily routes and met up each evening, riding with people of a similar speed. My map has all the places we stopped overnight at. I could pm you more details if you like. I think we averaged 50 - 60 miles a day.

Yes we had it for about 5 years and went to France a couple of times in it. Absolutely loved going away in it but decided we wanted more comfort so we sold it and went for a modern caravan. Caravanning doesn’t have the freedom that a van brings so that’s why I am now keen to buy a motorhome and start a new adventure. Just weighing it all up really as I am still working and we need to know that we will use it and that it wont just sit on the drive. I’m sure it wont take me long to convince my husband
I love the Auto-trail Motorhomes but need to start going to look inside some and work out what will suit us best. I am getting obsessed looking and reading about them though so not sure how long I can wait

Well I've just been to visit the doggies. So many lovely dogs I wish I lived somewhere I could have lots.
4 in particular I really like and all seem to like me.....i can't decide there's pro's and con's to each so I'm back in franky at the minute to have a shower and get changed as I'm covered in poop and pee lol as I've been in the cages for an hour or so meeting potential companions.

Need to have a coffee and a think

I'll let you know later:p

Think the secret in a van is to try and get one that doesn't loose its hair too much,,,German Shepherd,,Jack Russell lovely dogs but moult badly,,,Poodle,,Wire Haired Fox Terrier don't,,you have them trimmed,,,Having had to first two breeds when we caravanned i know only too well how much hair they loose,,,,,Good luck,,BUSBY,,

Oh dear Tam i think your in trouble, could be 1,2 or even 3!!!!;) Very difficult once you see them, just think though poo n wee in Frankie that's not good.

Carried three dogs in our caravan for years,,,never had poo or wee problems ever,,,now dog hair everywhere and their farting habits was another thing,,BUSBY:D2

Tam

Two thoughts for while you are thinking

Why not leave it for a few weeks and then you might think 'I should have done it', or you will have forgotten the idea. There will be other dogs in other places.

If in doubt - Don't

So here are the doggies I had on my shortlist
In order this is Silvia aged 2 years . Angel aged 8 months. Siobhan aged 5 years and jade aged 3 months.

I loved all of these four and all of them loved me which made it very very hard to choose. But there's lots of people interested in them so they will all have homes soon.
Angel was a sweetheart he is very cuddly but he casts lots of white fluffy hair.
Siobhan is the oldest and likely the smallest of the bunch ...also very affectionate has a coat like a yard brush but also sheds.
Silvia doesn't shed so much very affectionate but very stressed and constantly peckin and rapid breathing.

Jade the little cutey is the youngest of the bunch and while excited to come see me and was climbing up licking my face and nibbling at me she also wanted to cuddle into my arms and sleep ....lovely short soft coat but not casting .....shes 3 months old so hasn't been sterilized yet but she can come live with me and then come back and get sterilized and all her blood tests done in a few months time.

So little jade is coming to live with franky and me ......the vet and the adoption lady think she won't get much bigger and probably be the size of the other 3 when fully grown so she seems perfect :) and is young enough to train early to lifestyle in a van :)

There are lots of lovely dogs here all looking for homes , but they rescue dogs from everywhere and none are ever put down some have lived here for years and likely will never have homes, I wish I could have more but for now 1 is the sensible option.

Not sure when I get her yet I have to wait to hear back from Sharon :)

Very difficult decision we have a small cat and our problem is leaving him when we go away anywhere a commitment any way you look at it .

Welcome Jade, we look forward to hearing lots about you! One advantage to getting a puppy is that you can train her exactly as you want from the start.... lots of fun ahead I suspect...

Yes that's my thinking .....i want her to be able to go on bike rides etc aswell as walks and be used to being on the road. Big adventures ahead

I'll have to change my thread title on Tuesday lol

Lovely Tam, what a great idea, is Jade house trained or has anyone started to house train her, its hard work getting up in the middle of the night for a few months.

As she was just rescued last week and has only been at the refuge in an outside kennel sharing with 2 other wee dogs I don't know how she will be at first. I expect there may be the odd accident. Can only wait and see but I think they would all be the same. With lots of love and walkies we will get there :)

I would suggest getting puppy pads - they're large disposable absorbent pads with a waterproof backing. When our dog was a baby we dipped one of the pads in his wee and placed it on the floor - he sniffed it and got used to using it if he couldn't get out in time.

You might find yourself having to stop regularly to let her go out otherwise she may think its OK to do it in the MH.

Of course you might not have any problems at all but its best to be prepared. :)

A good choice , but going by the similarity between pets and owners the 3rd one would have been a closer match

I snapped the chain on my bike yesterday and now trying to find a repair shop close by that isn't closed for the Easter weekend is a challenge .....think I'm gonna have to drive to aguilas as they have a decathlon

I thought that just going by the photos!
However I think that you and Jade will have a great life together, lucky puppy:) No more lonely nights for you Tam.

Lovely dog Tam,puppies can be quite destructive it might be worth considering buying a cage for Jade, you don't want any damage done to your van + once Jade gets used to it she will love the security it offers.
Its great to have the company and fun of a dog.

:)

Yes I'm giving that some thought at the minute ....not sure how I feel about it but will see :)

Tam.

Must say you've just taken me by surprise but so glad for Sylvia (the lovely doctor and dog rescuer) and for lucky Jade.

We're in rainy Retford for a week but might be able to catch up when she comes back for her op!
