Tam, Jade and Franky's European Adventure

When you get to weighing, I use this weighbridge up the M90 from you.

They can weigh front/rear/both. Last time they charged me £9 I think. I just showed up on spec.

Cheers...Keith

My new batteries have arrived and I wanted to fit them today but it's absolutely heaving it down so they may have to wait till another day.
One thing I did prefer about franky the batteries were inside under the floor the hymer they are in a locker outside.

At least you don’t have to remove your front seats like we do.

Are yours under the seats?
I've just two empty spaces under them mine are in a locker just behind the front door so I got to crawl on the ground to get to them lol

Yes we have a battery under both front seats, it restricts what batteries you buy because they have to be low profile ones.
I’ve noticed that when the Hymers have double floor the lookers open upwards and and don’t slide out, our side looker slides out and you then access from above.

Yeah I've seen ones with slide outs too but unfortunately mine doesn't have them they just have a flap that lifts up.

These batteries look quite tall so I'm hoping they are the same height as the ones in it or I've got problems lol

New batteries are now fitted

I'm not actually sure the ones I removed are knackered as they appear to only be 18 months to 2 years old but my control panel came up a couple of times flashing alarm and charge now.

Old batteries are still at 13.6v at the minute so I'm going to keep hold of them just incase.

I also found a sticker behind the batteries in compartment that said " gel batteries do not replace with normal wet batteries "
Now obviously someone did in the past and now so have I.
Not sure what difference that would have made

Check that your EBL is set to Lead acid and not gel, there should be a slider in the top of the EBL.

AFAIK Tam - Gel & Wet batteries have a different charging regime - the charger fitted might not have the right setting - and for all I know might be the reason the old ones were knackered, or even why the wiring inside looked a bit crispy... I'm sure more wisdom will be heading your way shortly [ @Lenny HB ??]

I don't think they are knackered that's the thing.

Both still have the green dots in them and currently read 13.6v

I'll see if my control panel shows the charge symbol again now that the new ones are fitted.

I have it hooked up just now so they get a full charge before i use them.

You need to "teach" the panel and the EBL when fitting new batteries see the following. There was also more info on the HCI webpage (the jpg)

I'm glad you minded me about that as the panel wasn't set correctly for the batteries that were on it never mind the ones I've jist fitted.
So it's set correctly now and plugged in to the mains for 24 hours so they get correctly charged.

Might have been the issue with the other ones saying charge

Who knows

Your solar regulators I know one was a cheapie and I think the other was a Schaudt LR1218. I wouldn't recommend using the LR1218 with flooded batteries as it is a single stage charger and once batteries are charged it holds at 14.2v, not good for the life of flooded cells.

So am I better fitting another one like I had on franky instead ?

Yep and as your use is nearly all of grid get a decent one.

Ok I'll see what I can find

Have to say the two that's on it just now seem to put the volts in

The shaudt one must be connected to my control panel as it shows amps going in on that which I didn't get on franky

I quite like that

Votronic ones can be linked in to your EBL.
Unless your are adding more panels a MPP 250 (250watt) will do, around £110 - £120. If you think you might add a 3rd panel MPP 350 around £160. You should be able to use the cables from the LR1218 to connect to the EBL.

Calm down you pair lol my new batteries only cost me £160 with 4 years warranty lol

I wisnae planning to spend that much on a solar regulator ....I know certain brands are the best etc but my budgets no wanting to go quite there at the minute

Don't have much space left on roof for a third panel and not sure I would need it to be fair as I'm not heavy on power
