Tam, Jade and Franky's European Adventure

If she’s not with you and in a strange place she’s bound to be frightened, in the van she could see you at night.
Why not take her new bed upstairs with you, I’m sure your Mum would understand if you keep her in your bedroom.

Don't be cross with her Tam, it was all new and strange. She would have been nervous and anxious.
If she doesn't settle in a couple of nights you might have to resort to putting her to bed in a cage, but if you do, I would put her in it for several short periods during the day while you are there at first and make a fuss of her with toys and treats. The cage must not be a punishment.

Be gentle with her. Remember she's never stayed in a real house before and will be very confused as to what is expected of her, plus she's still only a puppy. You need to get a new van quickly so you can move in with her. Can you try her with puppy pads in the meantime?

@The Dudess I have always had my doubts about puppy pads feeling that they encourage the dog to go in the house and then they have to have part two training to use the pads outside.
Jade really is "house" trained already,as you say her anxiety has just caused her to make a couple of mistakes.
Just my thoughts.

Steady on I'm no going anywhere lol

Now you lot have a mission to help find me a van.

I'm looking for a continental van

Preferences

Rear French bed
Oven
Separate fridge and freezer
Separate shower

Just in case someone spots something I don't.

What about "little Frankie" - the one you looked at on the way home?

IMO vans with "French beds" have a good looking layout but lack a decent size garage and for a long trip that could be a disadvantage :)

For reference this is the van my buyer was supposed to buy

He bid 38 grand on it blind paid a grand deposit and drive from Blackpool to collect but said it had lots of damage etc so walked away

You wouldn't know it from the pictures though, apart from that nasty knock to the back corner that the seller highlighted. Everything is subjective I guess, one person's "age related marks to be expected" are another person's "unacceptable damage".

I was looking at a Hymer that Motorhome Depot had up for sale - pictures looked great but it was a long trip to go and see it. When I contacted MH Depot, full credit to them they straight away said "Before you travel, this has been an ex-hire van so has some damage - we'll send you pictures - and the owner won't budge on price, it's priced accordingly already". Well, the pictures revealed a true catalogue of horrors - saved me a trip.

Everything is subjective, and my van has some marks (what 12 year old family-biased van hasn't?) most of which were present when I bought it - but it certainly proves that I would always travel to view a van first, pictures can be very deceiving. Apart from anything else, my van needed nearly £1k of mechanical work when I bought it - cambelt due, major service due, split CV gaiter, split exhaust pipe - all minor really, but which I was able to negotiate off the price, having crawled round under the van and spotted the issues first.

To Jade small spaces = bed, and big spaces = everywhere else. She'll get the hang of it.
I don't think it's been anxiousness so much as she's not really fazed by the house
I think it was maybe a mix of the new food she's on making her poo a lot more and the fact she did miss one of her walks yesterday due to all the upheaval.

I know if i took her upstairs she would last in her bed 5 minutes and be trying to get in to mine lol so I'll persevere with the kitchen to see how she is.
She'll be back to her 3 walks a day today so should be fine.

She's not really an anxious dog ...has little fear and plenty of guts but she will obviously find it a little strange at first.

I'll keep you posted

Nae lectures @Val 2 dogs :p

I ruled that out as the shower wasn't great and the fridge was small and didn't work on gas and the sprinter cab was a little claustrophobic.

Yeah it certainly won't have as much storage space as franky did but that might not be a bad thing really as I did carry a lot of stuff I don't need.

I'm viewing a burstner t625 harmony today that I was meant to view on Saturday but couldn't.

Yep I didn't think it looked too bad either but the guy said every roof blind was broken and a few window ones , various bumps on outside and a few things that didn't work on it.

I prefer to always view a van before making a bid especially at that kind of money

I'm now looking in the 15 -20 grand mark so I expect something's to need repaired etc which I'm fine with if it's reflected In the price.

With franky I had repaired and replaced every niggle with her. So he had nothing to complain about really ...he did mention a small hairline crack in the shower tray but where it was and how small it was it had never caused a problem and was there when I bought it.

@Northernraider Remember this one Tam ? , its been snapped up already !! :(

Aye Tam - our 1st MoHo was a Rapido high twin with a large garage - loved it but for other reasons (not worth going into now) we traded it in for a new Knaus low twin (lovely van) but whilst the storage was "adequate" it was under the beds and after a while having to lift the beds and search for what I wanted whilst bent double and trying to support the bed became a real pain in the arse (and the back for that matter) so we only kept it for 18 months and bought a Hymer high twin with a garage - love it!! :)

Yeah I just got tired of banging my head on the roof of the high bed whilst ...cough ..entertaining so i want a sofa level comfortable fixed bed ..

I'm not keen on the drop downs for that same reason so sacrifices have to be made I guess.

But from some I've seen that under bed storage isn't too small so will do me as a solo I think
The other option of course is a cheaper van of a similar size to franky of which there are many.
The size never restricted me and was never my reason for selling so I'm not adverse to buying bigger if I need to. Now that I've sold her and have the cash I won't be rushing in to the first van I see so don't be surprised if I end up with something completely different ha ha

I did quite like this one but owner isn't negotiating and I'm not paying that :p

He mentioned the Stewart and Stevenson when I was chatting with him , didnt realise it was the 6x6 version most pick the the M1078
4x4 as big enough !
He's a cracking fella Terry...mad as a brush with those trucks but he's planning a trip over winter in Norway etc.
He was posting up on Facebook the other day all the lights he's bought for it lol

You won't miss it that's for sure
