Tam, Jade and Franky's European Adventure

We always go with Chunnel because I am not prepared to leave the dog in the van for the duration of the crossing. Yes, I know it's more expensive but worth it for my dog not to be left alone. Depends entirely on the dog, but my dog gets anxious if I close the bathroom door when I'm in it, so no way would he manage a 2.1/2 hour crossing on his own. Also usually have a lot of Tesco points so trade them in for 3X their value against a Chunnel crossing.
On another subject Tam, don't forget to pay your Dartford crossing fee.

Tunnel everytime with a dog. The ferries don't allow them out of the van and I know some calm dogs are fine being left, just settling down to sleep, but. I wouldn't risk them getting scared. Mine hate unexpected loud noises and bangs so the car deck would be a nightmare for them. The exception is the Brittany Ferries 24 hour crossing to Spain where there are some pet-friendly cabins and a dog walk area. But these get booked up well in advance and its an expensive crossing, as well as potentially rough across the Bay of Biscay.

I'm sure you haven't forgotten the required worming check for her pet passport 24-120 hours before crossing, whichever way you come.

Ok sounds like the chunnel is the best option then.

I'm remembering about the worming will be looking for reccomendations for that once in France.

I take it your not allowed to take the dog on deck I'm the ferry then? I've never done it before so never knew that

Strange too bevause it does ask when booking if any animals and I'm sure they charge for them which is a cheek if you've to leave them in the van

Some ferries allow it, but not sure any across the English Channel do. Mine have been on deck going to the Isle of wight and from Italy to Corsica, but like the majority I use the tunnel and sit in the back with the mutts.

For when you are ready for a Vet. Just remember, in general, the further you are away from the ports, the cheaper the vet will be.

And as you have to wait 24hrs there's no point being right "on the doorstep" as you will twiddle your thumbs for a day. I found most speak English if you ring them up. As you have up to 5 days there is plenty of scope, I had mine done in Switzerland once, not the cheapest but as one is a sod for taking tablets I booked an early appointment and took their bowls and breakfast with me and broke the tablet up in the food. The lovely Swiss lady vet even washed their bowls up for me :D She had a laugh and said it's the first time she'd had anyone do that.

I had them both done with an injection once, again, more expensive but it can be quite challenging getting a tablet down the throat of a 50kg Ridgeback that's not having any of it!!
Ironically, the younger one who takes tablets no problem had a horrible reaction to the jab, very scary, came up in pea size lumps all over and his face swole up and his eyes were practically shut so we don't do that any more!!:(

I've found jade eats anything ...but with tablets I just open her mouth drop the tablet in the throat clamp mouth shut and strike her throat till she swallows ....seemed to work with her antibiotics etc when she got spayed.
Not sure where I'll be yet 5 days before crossing as I've not booked crossing or anything yet but will sort that in a week or two once I'm in France

Ferry shouldn't be that dear dover/ Dunkirk from 44 pound.pay another 20 for flexi and you get 3 days either side any change ,subject to availability, with no additional payment

Make sure you clear your browsing history before going back for a quote. Seemingly they know if you've been on the website before and don't offer cheapest prices otherwise!

On that occasion it was just fresh cut grass ...she obviously liked the smell.
But she has rolled in shit on 3 occasions now ...i blame ozzy @BreweryDave dog cause he taught her that trick.

Each time she's done it she's been treated to a cold shower/bath so hopefully she's learned :p

The grass I don't mind so much

@BreweryDave is right about that Tam, dogs don't need to be taught about fox shit, the desire to roll in it is part of their genetic make up.I doubt very much you will ever teach her otherwise :D

Stopped here for a walk in my case and a run in jades case on the beach.
Don't know what she's eaten but her stomach is making some very interesting noises and her bums squirting jets. She hasn t eaten her breakfast either . But she won't listen.

You can stay overnight here if you wanted.

Nice beach rubbish weather:(

Make sure she's drinking - food not too important but they dehydrate fast.

I don't want to panic you Tam, but maybe you should be looking for a vet :(

Yeah that's where I normally go

Is the old fella with the old hymer still living there ?

There’s been the odd van here and about six last night but none stying throughout the day.....

Parking out side my ex wife tonight then heading back to Cornwall tomorrow...
