Tam, Jade and Franky's European Adventure

Not in this case they want 87.50 because they claim they don't know where I entered the motorway so that's the maximum fee
oh ok so it isnt a fine at the moment if paid within 8 days just what it would have cost in tolls, m6 toll is like that , so it is the same for everyone who uses the toll road, i agree with all your sentiments but think i would pay it or it will esculate into hundreds and then it will pay them to follow you up.

Seems unfair to be expected to pay the maximum rather than the actual cost for what was an honest mistake.

Portugal owes me money (33.71 eur) for toll payments in advance. I tried to get it back but they kept coming up with different explanations of how I had to claim it back so I gave up. Perhaps I should fine them and pursue payment.

If they let off all those who made an honest mistake ( like you ) imagine how many thousands more would make an " honest " mistake.
You surely do not expect them to trawl through cctv on your behalf.
No ticket and you pay the maximum. That's just how it is.

Tam, I think you should pay it then forget about it and enjoy your travels. Easy to say when it’s not my money, but just think it will drag on and on and be a pain in the arse if you don’t pay. Mistakes happen, put it down to experience. Onward and upward!

That's the cost of my ferry ticket home lol and it's the principle that bugs me .....the toll to drive all the way from the Algarve to Lisbon is only €21

I'm gonna forget it but I'm not gonna pay it
I can't see what they can do about it they can't arrest me here in spain or back at home. They may bombard me with letters if they can get my details from DVLA but not sure how far they can take it.
It isn't a fine ...its the maximum tollcharge apparently although I don't know from where .....must be bloody Thailand or something.

Yes just don't bother about it. The folk who collect the BBC license fee have been sending me letters asking for money for about 15 years. If they can't do anything about it I highly doubt some Portuguese toll enforcement officers will fare any better.

Yep had it been a reasonable amount of have paid it , had it been for speeding or something id have paid it. But i think it's a ridiculous amount for a simple mistake and I'll happily challenge them about it via email when back in the UK if need be.

So I moved over to a spot near the beach this morning and gonna stay here till Monday

Has the naturist beach so I could get rid of my white bits :p

I've burnt my bum again lol .....always seem to fall asleep on my front ....ill spare you the pics of my bum :p

I'm afraid on principle I don't agree .....the following pic is a screenshot from a travel guide website detailing the toll cost for a round trip of Lisbon to the Algarve on the a2

I did less than 10km on the a2 there's no way I'm paying 87.50 for that

With my ignorance of Portuguese (and many other languages) I would think via Verde was a green lane and not having a 4x4 motorhome would avoid it.

I see you’re selling your van on return home, just remember to tell the purchaser he may face problems if he/she decides to visit Portugal.

As the vehicle is registered in my name , a name they have been given and there's a date of the incident on their record ....when I sell the van there will be a different name and a date on the registration document when they bought it so there will be no problems.

We ended up on the toll road going into Portugal from Spain in 2012. We didn’t realise it until we saw the automatic gantries, so we didn’t have a ticket. Trying to find out how to pay was a nightmare, so we just ignored it! No ticket or letter so far, although we have moved and changed vans! Put me off Portugal a bit to be fair, and we haven’t been since - although that is more due to circumstances really!

I wouldn’t pay it either Tam especially since you are selling the van. Save your £s, you might need them back home.

I know nothing about Portuguese law Tam, but in Spain (as far as I understand it ) if you buy a property or a car that has debts with it you take on those debts and are responsible for clearing them.
I would suspect Portugal will be similar.

Yes ...go online and theres countless comments from foreigners having had issues with the tolls from cards not working etc ( mine didn't either and I may not have had the toll money in cash ) if they write to me when I'm back in the UK then I'll deal with it then but for now I'm just forgetting about it .

Dont think that could apply to a foreign registered vehicle and driver . Due mainly to the purchaser being unable to ascertain any liabilities .

Anyway I think 4 pages is more than enough time wasted on this ...if they write to me in Scotland I'll appeal it then but for now I'm not paying on matter of principle. I know where I joined that motorway and I believe they know too as those cameras are there for a reason and I'm pretty certain the one over the via verde lane would flag up when a car passed it without a device.

But enough about that now it's done and if I hear from them I'll deal with it if I don't then I don't.

I'll just be double checking routes for the next couple of weeks till I'm out of Portugal.

Spending another day at this awesome beach then I'll head over to Lisbon tomorrow.

Thanks again to @BreweryDave dog ozzy for teaching jade to roll in stuff I've just had to wash shit off her again ......really pleased she learned that .....NOT

I was nearly sick

Dont know about Portugal but in Spain the fine used to stay with the vehicle not the driver,,,same with unpaid taxes on property,,,new owner responsible for all outstanding unpaid property taxes..BUSBY.

Tam does your dash cam not plot a map of were you have been and times or if you have a tracker you can plot times and vehicle movements so could use to prove were and when you entered the toll road
And get an even bigger fine, dashcams are illegal in Portugal.

What is it with the bl***y toll .... it’s not as if anyone died...

Bet you wish you never mentioned it Tam

Didn,t thick the dash cams are illegal only the use of any footage that identifies anybody or a car reg used in court unless previously agreed, some new cars have cameras built in, also would this apply to head cams?

Now on a lighter note Tam, are your white bits burnt sore and peeling or tanned and blended? I think there would be more than four pages of dialogue and discussion if you were to post the “bum pics”. Anything to get Funster minds off Tolls Fines and the legalities of Dash Cams!!
