Tam, Jade and Franky's European Adventure

Funny place to park a boat.:D
I thought your expression "pre-occupied" would get the NPC twitching.:sneaky:
Yes the boat looks like it's been in a storm and got beached there ...the mast was ripped off it and lying behind it on the sand and looks a bit beaten up ....couldnt see anyone around it but there was a very large dog tied to it on a rope and I think someone was inside.

I'm being driven slowly nuts today by two English couples sharing one motorhome that's parked close enough to require contraception today

Not only are they half pissed already but they are attempting to play cribbage for the first time and one of the women with a very high pitched Essex accent gas now read the rules of 4 card cribbage out at least 6 times and still no one gets it.

I just want some peace and quiet to enjoy the sun

Jade seems to like them though. .....she has terrible taste

Still their very close parking has provided a barricade so I can hang my washing out :p View attachment 234247 View attachment 234248 View attachment 234249 View attachment 234250
We've just left there. You missed the beer festival over the weekend. :(

I may be reading too much into your reply to Lagtoftlad Tam, but your preoccupations will be upsetting Ian the Builder if you continue meeting these delightful ladies!

Manzanilla is the sherry of the region but very very dry.

If you fancy a treat try Pedro Ximenez. Described by one funster we introduced to it as 'christmas in a bottle'.

Thank God for that :p

So where's the nearest sherry bodega?

Bodegas Gutiérrez Colosía is walking distance from the beach and well worth the 10 euros. This is a working bodegas so not touristy and yes as per @Dazzlin you will love the Pedro Ximenez after you have tasted it( well I did any way)

I went to Cadiz by road spent one night at the port and two at the beach drive round to Puerto Santa Maria this morning ....parked at the beach again. I've been very lazy and just enjoying the sun on the beach for a few days ...will stay here till Wednesday then move to Rota as there's an aire there to fill and empty.
And then probably head up to Seville for the weekend

Plenty of Americans around Rota and quiet a lot of naked sunbathing on the beach. We had planned to only stay the one night but I changed my mind when Emma read somewhere that there's plenty of flesh on show, only down side to that was we only saw naked men.

Very awkward to get water at the Aire as the taps been damaged. If he's still there, theres an English chap on the first space on the right that said he'd made up an adapter to fit it.
If the Aire is full you'll need to either back down or back out as the roundabout at the bottom is to small for larger vans.

Ah interesting

Naked flesh is always good in my book :p

And I have a white bum I need to get rid of so when in Rome as they say :p

I read on park4night that the services were hard to get in to ....im not so much worried about water i can top that up from beach etc
It's more black waste dump I need. Not sure if I'll stay overnight on it if it's busy I prefer a quieter location but thanks for the tips

What's with all the fake car park attendants in spain. .some dude just attempted to take 5€ from me for parking here ....he was promptly told to jog on but this is the 3rd or 4th guy I've met doing this.
None if these guys are genuine they just try it on ....2 different Spanish motorhomers have told me they just prey on tourists and folk who don't know.

I'm surprised folk haven't tried this in the UK
Wear a hi viz and a bum bag and just make up a price lol

But mix it with 7up or sprite & you have
' Rebujito' (y)

Mix....Manzanilla......words that do not go together in my vocabulary.......only to be taken very chilled in frozen glasses with some nice Bellota Jamon (when I'm feeling flush) and Queso Manchego:)

My favourites are La Guita, La Gitana or Solear, around €5 to €6 a bottle, cheaper supermarket brands are available at half the price but some of them are not that good.

Thanks for the info, Tam. Cadiz is on our bucket list. It seems that there is a lot to see there e.g. the Cathedral, the impressive City Hall (Ayuntamiento), the theatre (Gran Teatro Falla) with its Moorish Revival architecture, the Torre Tavira watchtower that has fine views over the city, the Cadiz Market (Mercado Central) which is the place to shop for fresh food. I could go on and on but you've probably already seen a lot of it. One thing that I should mention, if you are into sunsets (I am) is the beach at Caleta Playa. It faces west and the sunset is extraordinary as it has a range of red and orange colours. The contrast of the sea with the moon makes it unique as the sky changes from blue to crimson.

Hope you have a fantastic time in the area. We are very jealous.

Yes lots in Cadiz to have a look at .....theres a few places to park too but id avoid the ones in the old town itself and the one at the port ....the port is very very noisy and the one in the town near the fort will charge you €14 for a rough uneven carpark again which is quite noisy.

I parked at the very far end of the port the first night which wasn't too noisy but a few bit racers driving past. And then 2 nights at the beach which is just as you enter Cadiz from San Fernando .....it was very quiet at night and a lovely beach with a couple of very cheap restaraunts on the beach.
It's off the main road but quiet after 9.30 ish

A few more photos from Puerto Santa Maria .....a very posh big yacht in the harbour and an old tall ship which emphasises the size of the yacht. A doggy on a paddle board and jades confrontation with a large beetle that nipped her nose :p

So where's the nearest sherry bodega?
Walk back into the town, keeping the river on your right. Just before you reach the green hut for the ferry to Cadiz you will see a white and yellow building. This is the Gutierrez Colosia bodega. They have supplied sherry to some top restaurants including Noma in Scandiland. If there is a chair outside the door it is open. They do sherry tours in English each morning. €10 but it takes an hour and you get half a dozen sherries to try. Some are very sweet (Pedro Ximenez etc) and ok to go with Christmas Pudding but I like the basic Fino - served cold of course. They also sell in bulk and can supply plastic bottles if you forgot to bring your own. :) You can get cheaper in Lidls but the locals come here which must be a good sign. They can't call their fino Manzanilla but as the bodegas by the sea it is no different to the bodegas up the road at San Luca de Barrawotsit.

Thanks I think I spotted that earlier on ....i think I'll nip up after lunch when jades having her afternoon nap :)
I've not visited any bodegas yet ....i feel I really ought to.
But meanwhile

It might be closed in the afternoon - like everywhere else :)

We've discovered a lot of restaurants close at four in the afternoon and may not open until as late as eight in the evening.

If you keep walking north on the same road until you come to the end of the buildings on your right there is a good restaurant (La Venencia I think) which serves big tapas plates (Racións). We ate there but in hindsight should have ordered their paella as it gets good reports on Trip Advisor. :)

Really enjoying your tour down this part of Spain had a great time down there last year hope to return soon :D enjoy

Well we haven't been blessed with the photos of the Dutch, Polish or French girls so I sure as hell hope you leave the camera behind (no pun intended) when you decide to brown off you rear end
