Tam, Jade and Franky's European Adventure

Actually the more I think about it I reckon jade attracts them and I get bitten bevause I didn't get bitten up till a few weeks ago afyer I got her. And all the bites are below my knees. Haven't had any higher

You can't blame poor Jade! Maybe after the cold weather there has been a massive hatch of mossiesome.

Hmm, a bit worrying -I don't know about such things but do you have a carbon monoxide alarm in working order in your van?
Thinking purely of Jade's welfare you understand lol

Ha ha not so much blaming her but I'm walking more in the grass etc since getting her and as she's always scratching at herself when we are walking I'm thinking they may be attracted to the dog

Not had any bites on the rest of my body except legs below knees so they must be down at that level

You're sure they're mossie bites, not flea bites ?
Mosquitoes have wings, they'd bite any exposed skin... inc face & neck.

Yes I've an alarm for gas and carbon monoxide etc ....the fridge just started not working so good about a week or so ago so o had cleaned out the burner etc but hadn't done the flue.
I'd mentioned it to Phil and dave there when we were having a coffee and Phil had a similar issue with his previously so between us we disconnected the flue and cleaned all the soot out ....looks like it hasn't been done in a while so hoping that resolves the issue.

If not I'll have to find a tech somewhere to check it out for me.

I'm pretty sure its mossies. .they aren't that small I've squashed a couple and they do seem to be very red bloody when squished....i think if it were fleas I'd have them elsewhere too it's usually after we've been out walking I notice them so figured they were in the grass and sand and being disturbed.

Jade was just treated for fleas ticks and worms the day I collected her about 3 weeks ago and haven't noticed any when brushing her etc so she shouldn't have them

I think citronella smells lovely, having worked all my life with horses I'm not sure it's very effective, dogs hate it. it's used in a lot of anti-bark spray collars and also used in anti-mate sprays do deter randy dogs from making advances. I don't think it's very effective at that either.

@PhilandMena I could give you a big Scottish kiss .....fridge is better already you can actually feel the cold hit you when you open the door.
Well done that man and of course @Busman for his assistance in cleaning it out.
Well pleased cause warm beer just ain't good enough.

Thanks guys I owe you a beer (y)

Nice meeting up again Tam and great to hear about the fridge. Think Jade hasn't quite got the posing for photos bit yet :-)

@Tam re your bites.
When we worked on a campsite-old farm with lots of long grass about & a stream-we were told they had a tiny fly called the Blandford fly, it always bit up to about 3foot so you had to protect the lower leg, a lot of people had adverse reactions to the bite.
Jungle Formula was the best but I found if I used a fair bit of Baby Oil on my legs the fly got stuck & I never did get bitten!
The bites you’re getting could be something like the Blandford fly!
That Facebook posting shows just how far Jade has come, although she’s still not sure of the camera is she!

So @Northernraider is in sunny Spain, waking up to beautiful views every morning, has found a new best mate and family member who is a dab hand at attracting lovely Belgian and Dutch lassies who provide their own body oils.

I'm sitting in gloomy Edinburgh at my mums house spilling baked beans all over my top. But hey, back to work tomorrow

Never mind, campervan doesn't need much for MOT and house is nearly ready to go on the market! So every cloud 'n all that. (y)

However she ends up, she's a great little dog and it looks like she has chosen a great Dad to share her adventures.

When I was with the horses in the Highlands they would be savagely bitten all along their bellies and underparts by something known as a birch fly -it was a big, black brute of a thing - the only way the horses could get any respite was to clart them with grease, (usually Sudafed) a mucky business but it worked. Seemingly most insects can't bite through grease or oils . Tam, I don't suppose your legs are quite as hairy as a horses belly so pleasantly oiled you could be bite free!
