I did yes ....the language barrier was quite difficult i admit ...but most agreed that being left in the cold and wet , raped mutiple times , left to look after litter after litter of puppies often when starving yourself was not fun , add to that the flea bites, worms and possibility of other nasty diseases , matted fur , sore feet , infected ears etc. Sometimes being attacked by other bigger stronger dogs , shooed and chased away , kids throwing stones and sticks etc .....or a warm bed , new adventures , a full belly twice a day , brushed , petted , excersised and most of all loved

Guess what they said
spot on (y)

Well perhaps you need to look closer. This one is admittedly a happy go lucky pup ...but shes young . Shes also incredibly skinny ...every bone is on display , petting her is like stroking a draining board at present. The other ones , their fur is matted , they have bits chewed off their ears ...the big old black n white one looks like he has arthritis and sore feet . His eyes arent great either .

Its a well known fact a beaten mistreated dog will still often wag its tail and look happy ....but it doesn't mean it is .

They survive ...because they know nothing else. But i challenge anyone who meets my dogs to say they arent deliriously happy content and spoiled
Im sorry Northernraider I just didn't want this thread to turn into a dog thread because I think everyone knows my opinion of dogs by now so I will keep out of it.
But wish you well with whatever you decide, and hope it works out for you.
Can we get back to your travel thread though as soon as we can.

Thats the thing Charlie this is my travel thread 🤷🏻‍♂️ i like old buildings , beaches , old motors , dogs , donkeys and cake ......

It will always be partly a dog thread because theres 3 of us on this trip ( at the minute) and 2 of them are dogs .i won't apologise for the dog content because frankly they are my life 🤷🏻‍♂️ if i didn't have them there would quite possibly not been another thread from me on here after the tam and franky one.

But the dogs are an integral part of his travel and many of us love reading about them and seeing the photos 🐶🐶

Tam having three dogs in the van opposed to two won't make any difference, I have five border terriers .......sometimes I take two other times I take three, when the wife gets the better of me all five come along......still good fun (y)

Thems the ones I had, cleverest things you could ever meet, good ones need hardly any training, amazing what they can do without hardly any training.
But pets , no thanks.
My first dog as a young boy was exactly the same as that, Floss a border collie bitch . . My parents kept a few chickens and she would round them up just like sheep. As Chaser said it comes natural to them.

Respect Chaser - we are all different.
I share my life with my dogs, have done since I was about five years of age. Maybe that's why there is no "Mr 3 dogs"
I believe both animals and humans thrive better with consideration, love and affection in tbeir lives, farm and working animals as well as pets.

Weather overnight wasn't as bad as i was expecting but i think it will get worse as the day goes on ....looking on the weather radar theres a big storm swirling out there ... Been raining pretty much all morning but ive been out with dogs for a good long walk to the end of the parking areas. ..... our friend came bounding over this morning when called and she came with us for the entire walk.... she's now had some food and shes gone off to wherever she usually shelters ...i did try to call her in but still not got there yet . She will come back later no doubt . I decided after reading a fair bit online last night and this morning about domestic pack heirarchy that im going to stop making a fuss of her ....let her make the effort to join our pack ...and she will ...i can see that she is displaying all the signals that she wants to ...even to how she acts with jade and milo . All 3 were eating out my hands at the same time this morning aswell as her backing off and letting my two eat first .

I would feel more comfortable if she came in the van but she obviously isnt ready for that yet but we are very close.

The weather doesn't help of course as leaving door open is not an option ... I really miss having a wind out awning right now 😁

Your stray dog's prayer

Dear God, please send me somebody who’ll care!
I’m tired of running, I’m sick with despair.
My body is aching, it’s so racked with pain,
and dear God I pray, as I run in the rain.
That someone will love me and give me a home,
a warm cozy bed and a big juicy bone.

My last owner tied me all day in the yard
sometimes with no water, and God that was hard.
So I chewed my leash, and God I ran away,
to rummage in garbage and live as a stray.
But now God, I’m tired and hungry and cold,
and I’m so afraid that I’ll never grow old.

They’ve chased me with sticks and hit me with stones,
while I run the streets just looking for bones.
I’m not really bad, God, Please help if you can,
or have I become just a “Victim of Man”.
I’m wormy dear God and I’m ridden with fleas,
and all that I want is an Owner to please.

If you find one for me God, I’ll try to be good,
and I won’t chew their shoes and I’ll do as I should.
I’ll love them, protect them and try to obey
when they tell me to sit, to lie down or to stay.
I don’t think I’ll make it too long on my own,
cause I’m getting so weak and I’m so all alone.

Each night as I sleep in the bushes I cry,
cause I’m so afraid God, that I’m gonna die.
And I’ve got so much love and devotion to give,
that I should be given a new chance to live.
So dear God, please answer my prayer
and send me someone who will REALLY care.

Author unknown unless anyone knows differently.
Sat her with my little rescue by my side and just cried my eyes out.
🥲

Interested to know Tam how much time you'll allow for her to get used to being in the van, before you leave? Obviously you won't just slam the door and hijack her :shake: Genuine question, I'm invested in this 🤞
Karen
Ive absolutely no idea to be honest. Ideally i would like her to come in herself ....eat , get comfortable etc and hopefully spend a night , go for a walk the next day and her to come in again of her own doing before i think about moving ....

But i don't want to stay here forever lol so i do wish she'd speed it up a bit 😁

Ive not done this before ...its new to me .

The other option is to just take her in the van myself and drive on stopping at the vet.

I do think things would progress quicker without the distraction of all the other dogs and other people and campers here.

She wants to be with us thats for sure she spent most of yesterday with us and she was around a few times this morning before i got up as jackie had seen her .

Like i said ive not done it before i would prefer she made all the moves but maybe i expect too much ...

Either way im 100% sure i can give her a better life than she would have left here so if needs must a bit off confusion etc at the start would be worth it once she realised that

Can you try her with some liver or chicken, something high value might help speed up the process.
Oh food is definitely not the problem .... she is eating plenty . She's just wary of jumping in the van . She doesn't like feeling crowded we had to move the vans yesterday so she didn't feel boxed in ...she seems more relaxed if she senses she can back away unhindered. Its slow process but amazing the difference in her since the first day we were here. She comes when i call her etc ...loves to play and be petted ...loves chasing with jade and milo ...will follow on a walk , when she goes towards others and i call her back she comes . Its only getting a collar around her neck and getting her to jump in the van that we are struggling with ....i think if there wasn't such a high step she'd have been further in by now

Now that’s a bit too far…. The vans not big enough for a bloody Donkey…😆
Im thinking a horsebox conversion next

Has she got a name yet? Apologies if I haven't been paying attention.
She has but im nervous about telling everyone just incase i don't get her ....

But i named her. "Ela mou" which is greek for " come to me "
