Tam & co the great winter escape

We will probably go down that route in the end but mum is still in the mindset that if they replace her knee she will be miraculously cured and running round like a spring chicken ....she won't but for now it's easier just to let her think whatever keeps her spirits up ...meantime she will get used to this chair and how it helps her get up...then we can order one of the tailor made ones after her op and she can use this while she waits .. its taken me 2 years to convince her to let me sell her car ...we have even got her considering a mobility scooter but one step at a time. She is stubborn and grasping on to any shreds of independence she can so its just a case of slowly slowly catchy monkey with her.
Slowly slowly is the way. 👍🏻 My Dad can stand on his own, but needs a lot of effort and upper body strength. We said what about in a years time when you’re even more frail. “Nope, I’ll get a nice fire side chair.” So we had a three pronged approach. My wife made the home visit and said “you might want to look at raiser chairs.” “Nope, I’ll get a nice fire side chair.” So my sister rang him and said “so looking forward to your home visit. Pick out a nice riser chair, future proof your life.” “Possibly, came the reply.” Phone rings, “so Son, what do you think about a riser?” Winner, just had to say the same. Riser ordered👍🏻
One of his concerns was the price as well, but I look after his money so told him he can afford it and just do it.

Finally secured a rise and recline chair for mum ...been a busy couple of days but got there in the end View attachment 653982

Price of them is ridiculous and in the end that's what was putting her off .....£1795 for fabric nearly £2500 for leather 😱

But I got her a deal on this one which will do her just now till we see what happens with hospital etc so she's happy and comfy and we can get her up and down
That's made my day some things are actually cheaper down south.

There are cheaper ones , argos etc do them from 500 quid . But they are like this one we got her which do the job but they aren't as comfortable. To get one the right width and seat length for mum in the fabric she likes is the expensive one.

Once she realises its not something just for a few weeks but for the rest of her life I reckon she'll feel happier spending the money. She can afford it she just doesn't feel its value for money ...I kind of agree somewhat as I feel whenever it's classed as mobility care its like motorhome parts they just take the pee with the prices.

But she's got uses to this one already ...and just a few grumbles that the movements are a bit Jerky etc which we just answer with the tailor made one will be smoother

Tell me about it…🤬 just mention the word disabled or motorhome and they stick another wad of cash on it….

I can walk but when out in motorhome I got to the stage of looking on Google maps to see how far I had to walk. Could I get back. Anything last year over half mile each way was a no go. Duncan had to go. So I decided I needed a scooter it had to be light and reasonably fun. On recommendation of a mh friend who has a terminal illness (hopefully not soon - it’s hereditary) he has had one of them over 12 years I got a used one from eBay. It weighed 14.8kg including the battery (I have the deluxe but the new one is an Escape which is slightly lighter too). It’s excellent and took me everywhere in France on all services and in summer on THS’s

There is no VAT to pay though on the disabled items :giggle: (y)

Gina
Hmmm, not strictly true. HMRC in their wisdom will grant vat exemption for 'things' that are purchased for the exclusive use of a disabled person(s) BUT if the 'things' can or maybe used by a non disabled person they may reject the vat exemption.

Made worse by the fact that they put the onus and liability not on the purchaser but on the company selling the 'thing'. If they retrospectively find that vat exemption was wrongly granted on the sale of a 'thing' then the seller has to pay the vat element and is out of pocket to the tune of 20% of the sale value.

You can guess how I know 😂.

Wow! That's an amazing lightweight scooter and it appears to be able to cope with rough ground.

Only surface I found difficult is large stones and wouldn’t try sand! Seeing you live in NZ they are available there and OZ. Several Travelscoot Facebook groups.

Well that lasted long 😡😡😤 she's back to this complaining the new chair isn't bending her knee and making it stiff
20220820_082229.jpg

She also decided to get herself down the stairs this morning without phoning me ( Normally 6am) so I woke up at 8 looked at my phone and no calls or anything so I panicked thinking she'd shuffled off this mortal coil ...flipping oldies ....drive ye nuts

Oh no!! I suppose only she knows what pain she is in. I used to get so frustrated with my mum phoning and complaining all the time of what pain she was in and refusing to have the doctor come and examine her, she just wanted me

We had the same problem with San's dad, you feel they just don't want to be more comfortable but my thoughts were always it was a way of keeping us close more of the time. As you say "flipping oldies" but I'm beginning to resemble that remark my self. Where's that gun gone! 🤔

Up at Tayport for a few nights with the motorhome ...sister is on mothersitting duties lol

Dont want to curse it but Ela is coming on leaps and bounds these days with the recall ...I've been letting her run without any leads if there's no distractions around. Still not great when there are mind you but we are getting there

Our 🐶 pup Rollo at 4 months old has had his first couple of off lead sessions on the beach here at Culzean .
Did really well until he fancied a jelly fish snack.
That developed into an interesting few minutes.
Fortunately a jelly fish is kinda difficult to hold onto by a puppy at full tilt. After the 3rd drop I got to the jelly fish before he did.🤪
Lead on . 🙄

Are you near the seafront Tam, we stayed on the little site with the honesty box about 2 miles out, next to the forest. A fiver but we could have wildcamped down at Morton Lochs.
The Indian takeaway from the pub in Tayport was a beauty.

Good job you mentioned the wild spot or Tam would have been having a spasm at the thought of a fiver a night.

Yeah I'm at my usual spot next to the static caravan park . Just been joined by another motorhome. Usually here myself

Nice pics! (y)

What are the concrete blocks along the shoreline for Tam Northernraider ?
I think they are left over from the war ...they run most of the way along the shore
