Tam & co the great winter escape

Where do you get your mackerel from Tam? I can never find any of good quality in the supermarkets at not much proper mannies fishmongers around here.

I've not been out sea fishing this year yet. I'm hoping to get out and stock up on the mackies.

Plenty down here but the price is frightening, some weeks ago I paid over £16 for 4.
I think Tam uses the smoked fillets from the supermarket.

Slices of what look like cheese slices mainly containing coconut oil. God knows how they do it. It looks like cheese and tastes like cheese.

Gina
Coconut oil is very high saturated fat content might as well eat proper cheese.

Tam which dressing do you put on your salad, your diet is definitely working so I'm having another go at mine can't believe you have lost 2 stone, well done.

Just checked the packet you are right. Cheese slice 5.3g of fat 3.3g of saturated fat. Vegan slice 4.5g of fat 4.2g of saturated fat. BUT cheese slice 75 calories. Vegan slice 57 calories.

So you'll lose weight but die due to blocked arteries! 😆

Remember that it’s the transformed fats that are really bad for you, the ones in processed food, biscuits, margarine etc

Dripping, ghee, proper butter etc not the baddies once thought, although everything in moderation.

I dont use any dressing as its usually high calorie. I either sprinkle a little salt and pepper on it or i put a half teaspoon of sweet chilli sauce in with 2 tablespoons of water and mix it through. Its enough to give it a nice flavour

My limited experience of vegan cheese (Mrs F bought vegan Mexicana in error) is that the plastic wrapping is probably more appetising than the block of cheese! It was, quite literally, like a block of soft plastic and bore no relation to cheese in terms of taste or texture.

Maybe Mexicana is a particularly bad one!

I love smoked mackerel, not tried the peppered one though.

Gina
I can recommend it ..

Its also good mixed through with the packet stirfry

You can make 3 dinners for a total of £6

And each is around 350 calories

Do you know that soft cheeses often have less fat than hard ones. So a low fat cheddar can still have as much fat as a nice soft goats cheese for instance.

Real Mexicana cheese is so good if you like chillies. I buy that in slices too (portion control)

Yes I found that out recently. But Goats cheese, no not for me just don't like it. Love Camembert and Brie and soft blue cheeses.

Definitely! It's lovely.

I say don't buy the vegan version though, it's truly disgusting!

I think I am going to finish off the packet of vegan slices I have and then say goodbye. Almost 100 % of each slice is saturated fat as pointed out by Lenny HB (y) Cheese is my downfall.

Gina

And mine. Plus butter, and toast. Tam's done fantastically well on his diet, I haven't, hmmm there could be a link here..... ;)
Yeah, mine is also Cider, chips dipped in melted garlic butter, Nigella Lawson's avocado and blue cheese dip, Walkers cheese and onion crisps, Lindt chocolate truffles ............................................................... now I am soooo hungry :giggle:

Gina

I once heard a quote, "The Vegan Society is like the provisional wing of the Vegetarian Society"

Please, any Vegans, don't be offended, 'tis a joke only. I will defend your right to eat Vegan food to the last, keeps it away from me!
