Tam & co the great winter escape

Must agree with her though, it does seem a shame after all that hassle and work to get rid of it.
But at least it's going to a good home.
I know and thats why i was hesitant to sell it , because it has come a long way from what it was. I've literally put blood sweat and tears in to that van , nearly lost my thumb and still no feeling in it.

But realistically the chances of me making it what i wanted to make it in the timescale i have isn't likely. And i know that come October i will be itching to get away again . So it would lie for another winter doing nothing.

Nope i think its best all round to quit while ahead.

Wissel will do something great with it im sure and ill have likely had 4 other motorhomes in the time he has it . Because let's face it im always bloody changing my mind.

Ive had 5 different vans since ive been on here 🤣🤣

I suspect once the cushions are removed it raises up and flips/extends out somehow to provide a work surface - you can see some sort of mechanism below and an additional 'board' under the base cushions. As for the 2 black things on the back wall, they look like monitors which are probably making you think (as they did me) they are part of the desk itself. From the description of the MH it looks like the owner has done professional photography/drone work hence the need for a large working area rather than just using the dinette table and plenty of power.
Easy, just convert the lower ground floor into a wine cellar same as my pvc, access is via the snooker room and cigar lounge😄

Its hard to believe there's apparently only 40cm difference in the length of these.
Hobby 7.7m , euramobil 8.1m
And that with the motorbike carrier on the back of the vario its right in the middle at 8 metres

That's a school ruler😱
Amazing

Actually if the previous owner is your mate you could possibly do me a favour.

Could you ask him when the timing belt was last done on the car. The guy i bought it from said he was told it was done at 90 odd thousand miles. But the service history only goes up to 60 odd.

He said this was due to previous keeper having all his servive work done by the police garage . It would be good to confirm this for peace of mind as i may have to venture south in this a few times to view vans over the next couple of months.

Width does make a difference though as to where you can get to sometimes but when you get to that length too it may not matter as much as you're not so likely to want to take it down narrow twisty roads. Will you still want a mbike to get around on?

Yeah i know and thats something i have to consider obviously.

Id still like to maybe carry at least a scooter with me but again it depends.

So, I’ve already interfered, but I’m going to give my thoughts again (because I’m a nosey old lady!) 😀 If I was going to full time again I would like
Fixed bed (transverse if on my own, not with husband!)
Garage - big enough for bike & scooter
Good payload
Scooter
Electric bike with trailer for dog
Double floor
Big tanks
All the extras you can add - solar panels, lithium, diesel heater - all easily fitted. I would also be tempted to spend slightly more to get a slightly newer van. This is your home - you don’t want the stress of a very old van do you? Anyway, my two penneth (more like sixpence, but still!). 😀

Yep as only remark to your comments above is that if this forum taught me any lessons is that the price or age of your motorhome is not really relevant to the amount of trouble you can have with it, the build quality of loads of the new stuff is quite shocking, you would never put up with it if it was a normal car……

I agree with most bar the newer van bit 😁 i find the older ones are better built and easier to repair.

I prefer the 2002 -2007 ducato to the 2008 onwards model for instance as its easier to repair myself most of the time.

Theres Pros and cons to every layout i find

Transverse bed has less headroom and youve to climb up. But they are generally sealed off from the storage below so less draughty. The french beds normally just slats berween mattress and garage very draughty and of course one corner missing .....that said i like both for their good points.

If i buy at lower end of budget i can use the extra money to fit good solar , batteries and b2b plus an additional diesel heater.

Or buy the one with all the solar etc and adapt the rear lounge to suit me ... hopefully at a bit less money.

I've around 5 possibilities just now which is good and if none of them work out there will be others.

The perfect van doesn't exsist sadly hence the plan to build my own

But then im aware my wants are constantly changing anyway so if i buy one and change my mind later i can just change it again.... and try not to lose money 😁

definitely need a scooter if you have a large van could not be without ours 👍
Aye i realised when i had the hymer i missed having a scooter like i did with the frankia. That was one of the aims with the vario ..to carry a motorbike on the back. Originally i wanted to carry a cruiser but that would have been hard due to the weight of it , so id have had to compromise there anyway. A scooter would do for what i need .

I’m saddened to hear you quit the vario project. That would be ultimate robust van for all seasons, tailored to your lifestyle. I know it’s seems allot of work, and you made your mind up. We started with a empty van, and two months later we drove to UK a fully converted crafter. That was me and wife putting the hrs in, no outside help whatsoever. Yes it had updates since, but was fully functional as it was. Just made some things better and added features that was planed anyways, but didn’t had the gear with us.

Ok so for those interested in the weird lounge on the big euramobil the guy has made 3 videos

Now ive no use for an office etc so i would want to put that back to a lounge and id have to move those battery monitors ,solar monitor etc further up the wardrobe wall. It would leave holes but then they would be hidden behind the seat base.

Depending how negotiatiable the price was would depend if that was worth while or not.

Could you just turn that in a fixed massive double bed with storage underneath fairly easily?

Yes

But i think I'd prefer to put it back to the lounge with the option to just leave it made up as a bed. Better for long-term I think and resaleibility

Doesn't look like a huge job to put that van back to how it was. Few sheets of furniture board and moving a bit of electrics.

If you wanted, you could come here for a weekend, use the workshop and I'll give you a hand.

I was secretly hoping you'd say that lol

It doesn't look to difficult for sure but a hand would most certainly be welcome

Tam, he says timing and water pump were done about 3yrs/30k miles ago. Also said it uses a fair bit of oil.
Hope that helps 👍🏻

Looks pretty easy. Hardest bit would be making it the standard it was out of the factory so you'd never know, but not an issue.

Maybe add a couple of ally struts under where the new floor would be to maximise under storage?
