Tam & co the great winter escape

It cost me £3k
Cambelt and water pump £460
Solar panel kit £80
Inverter from here £30
£30 in paint
I kept the lpg kit so not counting that

I sold it for £5900

I did have a buyer lined up for £8k with 12 months mot on it.

I don't think it will need much to pass , rear exhaust, a horn , 2 rear shock absorber, possibly a tyre . And then anything else to fix the fuel run back issue.

Still a cheap van these days for £8k and even better at £5900 if they spend £1000 fixing it .

Win win all round.

Did you know that regarding the Citroen Ds ....ds said in french actually means godess and thats why the car was named that.

😉
John is still restoring a 1974 DS that was given to him about 25 years ago by a Canadian who had used it in the South of France while he was working there. Had no use for it when the job finished so gave it to John for something like £10 because you had to make a bill of sale for the French authorities. They now sell for upwards of £18,000 when restored......

Yep i agree , with a little work that could be an excellent van .

Not someone I knew just a buyer from market place.

I did have another buyer lined up to take it once motd but i really couldn't be bothered doing the work on it out on the street so i was glad to get someone today that wanted it as is for the cheaper price.

Im after a diesel estate. Preferably the 1.6 versions that are the £30 road tax band. Ideally id like a volvo v50 , skoda Octavia or similar.
Also look at ford focus 1.6tdci same engine.

Didn't you bring one back with you from Eastern Europe?!🤣🤣🤣

No, but he knows where there is a DS and he's flying out next week. The self levelling will come in handy for the parcel work!

He will soon end up making more money dealing campers than delivering food.

Watch this space. :giggle:
Not sure about more
BUT

I've had £50k in a supposedly high interest account for a year and i got the grand total of £££ in interest

£524 ☹️

Its pathetic

So i may ( and i stress may ) buy another camper If i see something at a good price that i can live in , sell the caravan again for a little profit , carry on with the vario build at my own pace but have a van i can escape with for a few weekends or a week here and there.

But it depends if i see anything nice for a good price.

Afternoon Tam,
Just been on a walk along the beach on the Mull of Galloway when we met a couple with three dogs, one of which bears quite a good resemblance to Ela!!

They identified their dog as a Greek Harehound and said that she and the other two dogs had been rescued from Cyprus.

She, the dog, was quite timid.
I think the couple said they were local to the area, Sandhead, and were trying to set up an Aire in conjunction with CamPra and I also think he said he was on MHF or certainly knew of it.

Well ive a bit more than that as ive still got all the proceeds from my house sale that i don't like to touch just incase i find myself unable to continue van life. But that was the amount I'd invested in an alleged high interest account. Getting sod all for savings though sadly so just thinking why am i banking it and roughing it in a 3k van .

But ill see what comes up

From Wikipedia Greek Harehound

Overall speaking, these dogs can be challenging to train and are not recommended for the inexperienced dog owner as well as apartment life. They are more suitable as hunting dogs than house pets unless the owner is willing to exercise appropriately.

Tam

I agree totally.

I do not want to hijack this thread, so I will send you a PM with suggestions on an alternative, which is safe and flexible for having the cash for any other purpose.

This advice will be coming from a 'financial coward', but one who has somehow got to more than £50K.

If you do not get the PM in 48 hours prod me.

Geoff

He’s got a cousin in Africa who wants to launder 50 million….😆😉

Share any good advice? 😎

No problem, don’t give your money to people you don’t know 😉

You are a cynical lot.

I did not want to hijack Tam's thread onto financial matters.

I am a lawyer and ex Compliance Officer in Financial Services, so any suggestion that my advice could be other than ethical is a bit off the mark.

I am pleased to help people make the best of their cash within the tax-free boundaries that the UK government have set.

My post was to help somebody who might or might not be aware of putting their own-controlled cash into a tax-free ISA. There is a dead-line in about 48 hours.

Have any of the posters quoted above got any objection to that approach?

Will all of those quoted please reply.
