Tam & co the great winter escape

Does the price differ between motorway, chain, supermarket, and indie petrol stations???
In Hungary every station i saw regardless of where it was it was the same price . Tesco 479.9 , shell 479.9

£1 = 475 florin

Here in Slovakia its been between €1.46 and €1.55 so far

Another thing i have noticed in some countries ie Hungary . The Price for diesel was the same in every petrol station ...479.9 florins ...even the ones close to the borders where people drive over to benefit

Unlike the uk which allows blatant profiteering.

This should be standard across the board. It shouldn't vary on location or brand.

That's where things have gone wrong under the guise of competition.
Thats tosh, the rent/rates (maybe even staff costs etc.) will vary with different locations so it would only be a communist state to force price to be the same everywhere. If that was the case why not the same price for a tin of beans in Tesco/ASDA/Sainsbugs etc? What is wrong is the price motorway and other main road outlest charge tons more, I know they have to operate 24*7 so will have to pay increased staff costs plus more electric etc. but the extra they add on is way OTT.

The diesel is still cheaper than the petrol in france. ...which is the point i made.

Ive now driven through 18 countries on this trip and everyone of them the diesel is cheaper than the petrol and all of them so far have been cheaper overall than the uk .... that's a fact.

I WILL bash the uk as i live there it is MY right and i live in a different country from the one that sets the tax rate for the fuel that comes out of its waters.

I do have to come home thanks to brexshit.

YOU on the other hand don't have to read my thread if you don't like me airing my opinions on it 👍

I'm not going to adjust my beliefs and opinions because others don't like to hear them.
I think the French tax Diesel lower that Petrol. 20 years ago the difference was massive but I think the difference has closed over the years.

Amazingly the IOM is the cheapest place in Britain at the moment. Which doesn't make any sense at all as it has to get here by boat and comes from the UK

As the man says, it all down to tax. IF I remember rightly, the Petrol companies only get about 25p a litre?

Thats tosh
Are you saying that Tam's Northernraider observations are "tosh" (rule #1?)
or that price capping is tosh ? Something that only a communist state would do?
But we have domestic fuel price cap don't we?

https://www.euronews.com/2021/11/11/hungary-to-cap-petrol-and-diesel-prices-as-fuel-prices-surge

So actually the fuel stations appear to be charging the maximum they are allowed.
Presumably, as not communist, they are allowed to sell cheaper but that would be economic suicide.

They raise the price on everything else. A petrol stations main purpose should be to sell fuel ...the fuel should remain the same price. They pay the same for it ...or they should.

Thats the problem these days everyone has got so used to this lie about paying more for convenience or costs etc and think its the norm .

Why are the costs more? Again most likely due to greed .

Most of the worlds problems are down to greed.... that's an undeniable fact and until that changes no amount of saving the planet nonsense will make a blind bit of difference.

Im well pissed off to have hiked all the way up to that bloody citadel only to find a sign inside the gate saying no dogs allowed. Because putting one at the bottom of the hill would have been too sensible. Justifying why dogs are not allowed in an outside space would also probably be difficult. I hate places like this. Its pathetic , dogs dont make a mess people do , and if im going to walk around somewhere it doesn't make sense to leave my dogs in the van while i do it.

So im afraid this is the only pics i got of nitra . They can shove it

As a dog owner myself, you have my total sympathy, we often come across that problem when out and about. For instance last year we were on a guided 1 hour tour in Lincoln Cathedral where Daisy was allowed in, yet across the road in the Castle grounds all outside she was not allowed, does not make sense to us.

Yep ...i cant see the point in it . I understand rules like dogs to be kept on a leash ,or to clean up after them etc but totally banning them , yet allowing guide dogs etc is just wrong in my view.

We have had the same thing at a couple of places we walked to with the dog, Urqhart Castle on Loch Ness and Osborne house IoW are 2 prime examples of outside space where dogs are banned.

I fail to see that they pay the same price, it must cost more to deliver a tanker of fuel say to Jon O'Groats than the petrol station next to the refinery. IT must cost more to employ someone in London than say Devon, rent and rates must also be more in an inner city to the middle of nowhere. I know you will no change your blinkered view of the world but there are differences and hidden costs and its not just down to greed (though some is I agree)

Its obvious that some people have never ran a business.
See at the end of the day i just want a fairer more equal society 🤷‍♂️ thats it . Ive no idea how we achieve that but what i do know is the way we have "apparently " been trying for decades ISN'T working.

I'm not well off , but equally im not poor yet i absolutely dread getting old as I can't afford it 🤷‍♂️

I can't actually imagine how the poorer in our society get by, i can't imagine the worry stress and fear they live with every single day.

Ive no interest in running a business id be crap at it because i can't be as ruthless and selfish ass many business owners are.

How much is enough? Thats the question i always have.

I admit i would like to have enough money to be comfortable, just enough so i could live a reasonable worry free life. I wouldn't thank you to be wealthy , ive certainly never had the desire to be a millionaire etc , never bought a lottery ticket in my life.

But there's many in this world who's main goal is to make and hoard as much wealth as they can . While we have people who have nothing.

I don't have the answers , but don't criticise me for questioning

Edited to add . Whilst i don't possess the answers how to make it a fairer society i DO know that voting for brexshit or a conservative government will never bring about a fairer society. And i think everyone who did knows that deep down.

And the argument "what about.. ( insert other party name here ) " doesn't wash.

It shouldn't be a comparison it should be a case of if they don't do the job they get sacked. And that should continue till someone does do the job.

The problem with a price cap on anything, is that its viewed, like the speed limit, as a target. The energy price cap, for example, has penalised those who can be bothered to shop around, without benefitting those who cant.
If the price of fuel was fixed nationally it would just mean we all would pay top price.

Similarly the minimum wage is just that a minimum a business will pay and if thats the legal minimum why pay more to attract staff.

Yep again something else that doesn't work.

Ive also noticed the uk seems hell bent on adding to the unemployment and maximising profits.

Again compare uk to europe . Compare self service checkouts , petrol stations where staff fill your tank etc

Other countries seem to create employment wheras we seem to want machines to do the work instead ....and then complain about people not working 🤷‍♂️

Ask a person on minimum wage , that works in a shitty job somewhere that public transport doesn't go or adds a few hours to their shift who has a cheap old car to get there how they feel about fuel increases , clean air zones , higher road tax etc.....

I can guarantee they will have a different view to those who can buy newer cars etc .

I'm sorry to disillusion you, but there can never be an 'equal' society! Man (and animals) are not made that way.
Take the expression 'pecking order', even the humble chicken knows it place?

Tam you are lucky, you can question without shackles, you can choose if you want to work or not, you can even choose IF you want to put this expensive fuel in your vehicle or not. (You choose to travel?) and you choose to have the company of 3 (expensive?) dogs.

There are many who do not have, and cannot afford, these luxuries and freedom. Appreciate what you have!
(I'm sure, you think, you do?)

PS. I was self-employed 'business man' for most of my life, and like others in my position, I worked bloody hard (for years 24/7 without holidays and sometimes laying in snow on New Years Eve night, changing truck engines) to achieve some of the freedoms that you have now, so please, do not dismiss the 'business man' as a greedy, selfish, blood sucking bastard!

The majority of us have worked hard ('turnover is not profit) for what we have now and others have lost everything by trying!

(The people I despise are the people who make nothing but just move number around on their computer and contribute NOTHING to the general public yet get paid millions of pounds!!!)

Tam, you have given a lot of pleasure, and information, to us housebound travellers, keep it up and Good Luck! (y)

Like many others have worked hard and long hours all my life to raise a family. Kids now gone and we are now trying to enjoy what we have which is not a lot. Give my share to help charities etc. However there are some out there who can’t even spell the word ‘work’. A more just society would involve everyone working and paying their fair share of tax. Don’t think that is going to happen.

There may never be a truly equal society...no one expects that. There can however be a MORE equal society. And to stop seeking that and just accept unnecessary greed is a cop out.

Ive already said above this isn't about me , im perfectly aware of my privilege's

That said i would have difficulty doing anything else at present. I wouldn't get a council house, id struggle to buy one , getting a job wouldn't be easy either in the current climate. So im not without my own worries. ... knowing full well i can't do what im doing now forever. I dont have a pension etc

I haven't dismissed every business man as greedy , selfish etc . But when i see someone on tv driving an £80k car , wearing a £3k suit complaining because he had to give his £6 per hour staff member a 20p per hour payrise and saying he may have to lay off staff as a result i get a little sick in my mouth.

The problem is who decides what is enough? It seems the more people have the more they find ways to spend it ...and then they want more 🤷‍♂️

Thats why you hear people often say wealth is wasted on some

Whilst I agree with most of your post the part I do not is the moving numbers around on their computers. Hard work is not always about physical actions but also about moving stuff around in the ehter, it is still hard work, not physically but mentally and can often mean longer hours than those in a physical line of work. I am sure you never worked 24*7 though it may have seemed like it as that is not something an average human can do and still retain any logic in thoughts or physical abilities thats why they torture prople by sleep deprivation!!! I work and have done for the last 20 odd years pushing numbers around and currently I start at 8:30ish but work many times till 9 or 10 PM but never stop before 7:30 so as I say don't put people down because they are not doing a physical job (I used to). Also for every person say making a car or digging the road or whatever you do there are back up staff to do the HR stuff, pay wages, organise benefits, selling the goods they make, doing customer service and after sales etc. Oh and the majority do not get paid millions of pounds your average teller in a bank will get just over minimum wage, the back office clerk settling a FX trade will get more but not much but they are just pushing numbers around just the same.

I agree there are . There are tv programmes , newspaper articles etc all constantly telling us about those that have little and how terrible they are making the world , immigrants , disabled , sick ...the poor etc

We have benefit street , life on the dole etc etc etc

You hear a lot more about it than the other end of the scale.

I read a thing on Facebook yesterday about these rich russians in the uk being sanctioned.

Im hoping they keep that in the news and expose all the money these same rich Russians have been pumping in to uk government and businesses etc that everyone turned a blind eye to before this war in Ukraine.

Like i said ive nowt against folk who worked hard ,played fair and enjoy the benefits.

Its the excess i find hard to swallow. Ive never been someone who idolises or looks up to wealth and status. But im sadly a minority.

Your choice MichaelT .
You must like what you do and if you cant spend all that you make because you are working 24/7 send some to tam.;)
I may not be able to spend it all but Mrs T is quite good at it:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Not necessarily liking it and I do not get paid extra for it but I just wanted to point out that though its not a physical occupation it is still long hours and mentally draining, another 8 weeks and I am retiring but looking at the stock markets not sure its the right time now but hey ho, at least I have a pension of sorts unlike some who do not and expect everyone else to look after them in their old age;)

Tam many will look at you travelling Europe for months and consider you well off. I certainly couldn’t have done it at your age.

gpat Tam is referring to the “YouTubers“ many of whom are also Patreon members who ask for “coffees” and earn money by being popular. I follow many and I agree with Tam that they are often more interested in gaining and keeping a following than in following the dream they started with before being sucked into “popular=money”. After saying that I still follow them. Examples are Foxes Afloat, Cruising the cut, Van wives, Mav, Bob Earnshaw, The Slaws…..
