Tam and Toby ~~ Hunting Zorba .....Take two.

Well we have arrived at venice .....or should i say near venice.
This place is a nightmare for parking ....theres a motorhome parking area on the lagoon ....€40 ...no chance.

Theres a sosta round the corner from the carpark im currently in which is €15 i believe.

The carpark im in is free ....but from reviews its mixed ...some have parked with no problems but theres 2 others who have had breakins.

Its 5.6km from venice centre so over an hours walk each way .

Its very foggy today .....

Apparently cant buy bus tickets on the bus and im not sure i want to be on a bus at present. ....also not sure if dogs can go on bus.

Bloody nightmare as id like to see venice but no intention of staying overnight...no carparks closer that you can just pay for an hour or 2 .

Not many options ...dont know what to do

That’s certainly a bit tricky, but I wouldn’t miss out on Venice if you can find a way. But I think you’re going to have to spend some money...........it’ll be worth it,and you don’t need to tell us,thus preserving your canny Scottish reputation.;) ;) ;)

Have you seen this one ? 18 euro and on lagoon, good reviews.
I stayed on venezia village and caught the bus in, but I know you don't like paying 😕

Might be worth checking if the Motorhome stop has a boat service, might work out cheaper if they have a reasonable cost service.

Dogs are allowed to travel on the vaporetto (the water boats that criss-cross Venice) without a ticket, as long as they are on a leash and ideally wearing a muzzle (although the latter doesn't seem to be enforced for small dogs).28 Mar 2019

Transportation
On ACTV water buses, the rules allow you to bring:
A dog with muzzle and leash;

If the 40 euro parking allows you to stay for 24 hours I would say go for it. The cost of everything in Venice is extortionate but the parking is close to bridge that takes you right on to the island. Public transport is expensive be it tram or vaporetto. Walking around the island is a delight and some brilliant sights to see. Enjoy!

For what it's worth, we have done this a couple of times.
Go to lido De jesolo, excellent sea side type of place but loads of places to park, then there is a special ticket you can buy at any tabac or campsite, this entitles you to 24 hours travel on the number five bus, that takes you to the ferry place over to Venice, also includes all day travel on the water taxis to the other islands and obviously back to your park, last time we were there it was about 25 euros.

The issue is also that it is very foggy today so there is not that great visibility....i dont want to stay here 24 hours .....i wanted to spend an hour or 2 in venice have a look around grab a few photos and then move and park somewhere else tonight.

None of those are on Venice lagoon though and cant walk from them in to venice.

Im trying to avoid any form of public transport that involves coming in to contact with others
Can't think of any form of public transport that can avoid that. How about the ferry to Greece,,Crew and other passengers..BUSBY.

Sorry can't help without a bit of transport, but don't think they will be very busy.

Thats why im camping onboard ...i dont plan to leave the van unless taking dogs for a pee ...its a 7.30pm crossing so will be dark anyway ...and a 5am arrival so ill be in my bed about 10pm lol

The park you are on is the backside of Venice so a hell of a walk with dogs to get to the popular parts, st marks Square and that, whereas the boat from jesolo takes you right into the square.

That is going to prove to be difficult throughout Italy due to environmental zones in the centre of major cities which force you to use public transport or huge walks each way.

To be honest though i dont tend to visit big cities ... especially at the minute

Venice is a different thing though hence why id make an exception to see some of it ....i dont mind a bit of a walk
The main thing putting me off from here is i would be gone from the van 4 hours and im not sure how secure this parking is

And because of the fog whether id get any good pics when i got there ...can only see about 2-300 yards in front at the minute ...its been that way all day

Yeah and ive 560 miles to travel down to bari in 8 days lol ....with a few other stops on the way.

Maybe if i was here for a week in sunshine it would be different but i cant spend that long here

You won't believe this but we actually had tea in st marks Square with the violinist paradeing about, the works, cost us £25 for two cups of tea, but the atmosphere was out of this world.
Tam do not miss it now you are so close.
