Tam and Toby ~~ Hunting Zorba .....Take two.

Yeah theres a lot of sense in what you are saying

Cant help having the feeling of failing yet again if i do that though.

I love spain but i feel if i keep going to the same places i will lose that love for it.

The weather today is not helping lol

Definitely not a fail Tam ... I failed this year by not taking the opportunity this summer to head to France and bottling it when numbers started rising, then having to pull out of Germany this half term because of Q14 .... you’ve made it over the water so you’ve definitely not failed and I have learnt my lesson.

I know what you mean about losing the love but Covid necessitates that you find the love where you can 😉. I’ve had a couple of nights down in D&G and am now back in Torridon ... not what I wanted or had planned but I’m enjoying it none the less.

Did you do either of these routes ?
If so which site did you use for ferry booking etc ...im finding them very confusing
I've done camping on board in the past, not this year. A recommended site is viamare.com they have a good reputation, if you call them they will advise you as to what's available over the phone. I don't know what the situation is with dogs camping on board.

PS If you go to Italy the Archaelogical Museum of Naples is amazing - it houses all the finds from Pompeii and Herculaneum. And Paestum is a beautifully preserved Greek / Roman site with 3 Greek temples pretty well intact.

Pets on Greek ferries: Traveling on board
Generally each ferry company in Greece has different pet traveling policy. The slow (normal) Greek ferries usually have a limited number of pet cabins available and it is necessary to reserve these cabins in advance. This means that you should inform the ferry company about your pet right after you book your ferry tickets and certainly not last minute. Highspeed Greek ferries usually do not have pet cabins but kennels, which also need prior booking.

For reasons of public hygiene, pets are not allowed to enter indoor areas, like bars, restaurants and lounges. Even if you are traveling in a cabin, you are not allowed to have your pet in your cabin, but you will be required to leave in the pet cabins. Except for the specially-designed pet cabins, pets are only allowed to travel in outdoor areas, like decks.

All pets travel upon their owner’s responsibility, who must make sure that the pet is not aggressive or disturbing other passengers. If the pet is large in size, they are required to wear muzzle and be on leash when walking on the deck. If it is small size, then the owner can have it in their arms. Unaccompanied pets on Greek ferries are not accepted for embarkation.

Depending on the Greek ferry company and the itinerary, pets may travel for free or pay a special ticket for embarkation and pet cabin or kennel booking. The owner is responsible to provide the food and water for the pet during the trip and generally ensure the good welfare of the pet. If you are traveling with the Camping on Board program from Italy to Greece, then the pet can stay in the camping/caravan with you upon agreement of the ferry company.

Best advice is to ring them.

Ill phone anek lines tomorrow.

You will only get Anek's answer. If you phone ViaMare London they are the dogs' round bits according to several posters on various forums. including peejay who is a bit of an expert on travel to Greece.

As far as campers on ferries there is real camping on deck(cannot remember which company) and there is a camper package which includes a cabin, but you cannot stay in the camper, which would be no good for the dogs unless there is a pet cabin available. ViaMare should have all the answers and availability at their fingertips. I believe that they can undercut the direct quotes from ferry companies because of the volume of business they do.

The south coast of Sicily has half decent weather in winter - but not a good as warmest bits of Spain. I think sallylillian has returned from there.
With all the media coverage on Europe, our route home plan being disrupted by BF cancelling the Plymouth Roscoff ferry booking we were left with the option of the Tunnel. We had a ferry booking from Palermo to Genoa but decided to just lose that and abort our CCW navigation of Sicily and cross over to the mainland at Messina which we did on the 7th. Watching the naughty list we decided to get to Germany and with our Telepass Sat covering Austria we decided to cross over on the 13th so now in Germany. Just as Italy came onto the naughty list. We were watched closely by a large group of border guards as we crossed from Austria into Germany but not stopped as some were.
We are booked on the Eurotunnel next Friday but will stay in Germany until that morning and then whiz over to Calais without stopping and under those circumstances, as you cannot get out of the vehicle on the train, the government deems it an exit direct from Germany so not subject to Q14. So even if Germany goes on the naughty list next Thursday it will not become active until the Saturday or Sunday by which time we will be in the UK. Of course living in our motor home is our own bubble and we have refrained from a number of tourist sites to avoid risk.
Sicily was interesting but amazingly dirty the amount of rubbish that people just throw from cars has to be seen to be believed. We had been expecting a different place, most Sostas and campsites were of a low standard that said there were some amazing gems. We stayed at Camping Luminoso next to Davids favourite site. The family that own it have a severe case of OCD when it comes to cleanliness and I would recommend it to anyone, I hate beaches other than to look at, but theirs was a Wilton carpet! We went swimming every day, another unusual occurrence for us.
The other one is AREA CAMPER PARKING LAGANI with another OCD owner. Great position and the VIP pitches with sink, water and a cold shower were well laid out and even accommodated us.... just.
We saw a lot in Sicily all of which David has covered, I would not have missed the trip but CV19 masks, temperature checks and gallons of hand sanitiser wherever you went made you very aware of risk and so we did not relax at any tourist hot spots and maybe that added to our view that it is an island you have to visit... once.

It's not failure, it's just adapting to the situation. South Sicily sounds an option. Is the Italy to Spain ferry running?

So for those more experienced ...whats the best route to get from Germany to italy through Austria avoiding toll roads ?

I am not in Calpe,,,We don't sit,,Spend the mornings cycling,,only steady about 15 to 20 miles and afternoons walking plus always half hour in the pool..Would be travelling more if it wasn't for Covid but feel very safe here in Benicassim. Have to be a bit careful at our age with Covid😁😁 but we have to keep the exercise levels up😁 BUSBY.
Couldn’t agree with you more exactly what we do. Done all the touring when we were younger.

Yeah just throwing things into the mix, depends where is open or not, France to Italy might be easier, don't know really.
On the way lol .....im an hour from the German austrian border im not going back to france

This is from memory but you need a quick answer. I seem to recall somebody posting a route via or near Salzburg which suits yor criteria, but where are you?
