I fully appreciate and understand that, certainly dogs that are older or adult when rescued may well have been badly traumatised in earlier life and be suffering from the equivalent of " doggy ptsd". .These poor creature need handling very sensitively.
Tam's two however were rescued as very young puppies, (Jade i think marginally older than Milo) and as such had no such experiences.
Through my earlier life and work I have seen many perfectly evenly natured animals turned snappy ,even savagely dangerous, (horses) by being overly pampered and otherwise perfectly happy dogs become destructive and neurotic with 'separation anxiety having been mismanaged by well-meanig loving owners.
Agreed. I spent time to make sure mine were OK on their own at home and in the van. It's only being left in unfamiliar surroundings that bothers the Whippets. The Vizsla couldn't care less.

I think his saying what tosser put this on me.
Many years ago during one very hot summer whilst living in a caravan in Wales I made the unforgivable mistake of giving my very heavily coated black and white border collie a very short hair cut.
He looked absolutely awful and ended up a dirty rust colour.
He crawled under the caravan and wouldn't come out in the presence of other dogs or humans for about three months. It took his coat at least three years to recover fully.

My poor wee dugs feel the cold and despite them acting tough they are soft and spoiled... I honestly could not relax in a cabin while they were in an open deck on a noisy cold ship possibly with other dogs around barking etc .

Whilst some might be comfortable doing that i really couldn't. They might well be fine but i wouldn't be.

Jade was actually younger when i got her 3/4 months where milo was 6 months but had been bottle fed etc from 3 weeks old ...hes always been a bit softer as he was in Silvia's house all the time and had people cuddling him etc

They are fine being left in their own environment and sheltered with food and water ...but they would likely be scared and anxious in a kennel on a moving noisy ship.

Cant do it

Ill have to get a cabin
I've detailed our one and only experience of dog kennels on a long sea crossing elsewhere on this thread. I would never do it again and I would never recommend it. Every single dog in those cages was highly distressed, not just pining, the noise, the smell, terrified our dog and she had to be forcibly shoved into the cage, no option. And our dog is used to being left alone at home for hours on end with no issues whatsoever. It was the visible and audible distress and the smell of fear from the dogs in the cages which terrified her. You're making the right choice, I assure you.

Heres a point on the whole campsite thing . This apartment jackie has rented in nafplion is €25 per night for 2 people , it has a lounge kitchen , seperate bedroom a smaller bedroom , full bathroom , washing machine, wifi etc

Its apparently €35 in high season but still

I look forward to watching your van build and then following your next trip. Nick and I were supposed to be doing an organised tour of the Balkans last year so that included Serbia, Slovenia and Hungary. We’re not at all practical so when things go wrong we “need a man who can” , these organised tours are ideal for us , there’s one to Turkey once blasted Covid is behind us . I had trouble persuading Nick that we wouldn’t be murdered in our bed on aires! Meanwhile I live vicariously through you, keep up the good work but stay safe.
Hi carolyn ,would you mind sharing who does those organised tours please? Of course I,being a real man hahaha, don’t need such things but the Duchess isn’t as confident (but maybe wiser). Thanks.

Happy Birthday young man,and keep up the pics etc., always interesting.

Wow! That dog is amazing! A belgian shepherd i suspect?
That breed make even Border Collies look thick lol😃
