Happy Birthday Love GIF by Cappa Video Productions

You got away from the snow good and proper, no sign of it.
Yes thankfully its just in the distance on the mountains ....where i like it lol.

I liked snow as a child but lost that in my late teens when having to work in it etc .
2 days a year at Christmas is acceptable otherwise no thanks

Happy birthday Tam, I haven’t been able to keep up properly but did see you’re thinking of going back via Germany. Have you seen this?
Yes ive been sort of keeping up with the changes around Europe but its hard going i must say. As i now plan to just stay down here till around 15th march then ferry to italy and head home ill just have to see what the situation is at the time ..

I'm probably more hard-hearted than many of today's pet-owners but I have always believed in teaching both my horses (in the past) and my dogs that they couldn't always be with me or in their normal home surroundings.
My horses would stand patiently tied anywhere i put them while separated from their companin/ pasture mate from 4 to six hours. I have brought up my dogs from puppies to be accostomed to my leaving them unattended for several hours at a time.
If they are accostomed to this gradually and given an item of my clothing , a familiar blanket and maybe a "kong^ to help pass the time and particularly if they are in shared or adjoining crates/kennels they hopefully will be confident to wait patiently until such times as I return without becoming stressed.
I think returning "to check on tbem" frequently disturbs and excitesthem giving them false hope of being reunited with their human abd renewed disappointment when left once again.
A dog left alone, undisturbed will usually after an initial short period settle down and sleep.
Problem is many rescue dogs have had bad experiences with kennels / temporary homes. Mine are settled and well-behaved when left alone in familiar surroundings (up to 4 hours in the mh for example) but become distressed very quickly if left for even short periods somewhere strange.

Thank goodness you’re safe. Happy Birthday. Think that confirms your decision to avoid Bulgaria and Romania is the correct one at this time of year.
Yes im sad i won't get to do them on this trip but the way things are at the minute between covid , brexit changes and the weather changes things have to remain flexible. My next trip will be exploring these countries and greece again and hopefully further afield to turkey Georgia etc ....thats why im keen to build a more suited van and with all the changes happening in Europe regarding wildcamping etc ...these places need explored but timing and planning needed it seems regarding weather 🤣

Happy blue sky birthday Tam ... looks like you made a good call with your travel direction.

I look forward to watching your van build and then following your next trip. Nick and I were supposed to be doing an organised tour of the Balkans last year so that included Serbia, Slovenia and Hungary. We’re not at all practical so when things go wrong we “need a man who can” , these organised tours are ideal for us , there’s one to Turkey once blasted Covid is behind us . I had trouble persuading Nick that we wouldn’t be murdered in our bed on aires! Meanwhile I live vicariously through you, keep up the good work but stay safe.

I fully appreciate and understand that, certainly dogs that are older or adult when rescued may well have been badly traumatised in earlier life and be suffering from the equivalent of " doggy ptsd". .These poor creature need handling very sensitively.
Tam's two however were rescued as very young puppies, (Jade i think marginally older than Milo) and as such had no such experiences.
Through my earlier life and work I have seen many perfectly evenly natured animals turned snappy ,even savagely dangerous, (horses) by being overly pampered and otherwise perfectly happy dogs become destructive and neurotic with 'separation anxiety having been mismanaged by well-meanig loving owners.

These pictures are certainly an improvement on the snowy, freezing ones.
I bet it's not only the dogs that are a lot happier!
Have a very happy day Tam.

My poor wee dugs feel the cold and despite them acting tough they are soft and spoiled... I honestly could not relax in a cabin while they were in an open deck on a noisy cold ship possibly with other dogs around barking etc .

Whilst some might be comfortable doing that i really couldn't. They might well be fine but i wouldn't be.

Jade was actually younger when i got her 3/4 months where milo was 6 months but had been bottle fed etc from 3 weeks old ...hes always been a bit softer as he was in Silvia's house all the time and had people cuddling him etc

They are fine being left in their own environment and sheltered with food and water ...but they would likely be scared and anxious in a kennel on a moving noisy ship.

Cant do it

Ill have to get a cabin

Re the rope I thought it was one he had found on tbe beach.
My two have the remains of a length they picked up by the lake. They play tug with it and Querida picks it up and takes it outside with her when she goes out for late night tiddles before bed.

I am totally with Tam on this one. Dogs don't know you are coming back to fetch them in a few hours time - they might think that it's the start of their new life 😥
If dog friendly cabins were available I too would use them as first choice.
However, I prefer from earlier in their lives with me to gradually accostem my dogs to being left in different places.
At first I will only move a few feet away and for a few moments building up to being out of sight for increasingly longer periods of time.
Then if due to unforseen circumstances the dogs have to be left somewhere strange rhey do not fret and become stressed knowing that ultimately I will return. Dogs can and do learn this.
Tam at this point in time does not have the time (or inclination) to spend doing this. I was telling him how, if he had no choice but to jennel the dogs on the ferry crossing, I felt he could achieve this with the least stress caused to the dogs.😊

This one is mostly for their last thing at night and first thing in morning pees...it means I don't have to go out 😁 i just reel them in like fish when they are done

Unless they've been stoopid and tangled themselves round the wheels of course
