Tam and Toby ~~ Hunting Zorba .....Take two.

Probably the best base van out there, and with a patio! :xThumb:

Good clean one's fetch top money, saw one a few months back up for 29k!!!
Yeah this one is 10k with 300k km
They hold their money but are an ideal van for conversion

Think this is going to be my next camper

Can build myself something great on one of these
7.5 ton , rear wheel drive , bombproof engine .View attachment 450027View attachment 450028
This van was always on my wish list to tow 3.5t trailers before the law changed we had 3.5t 410d mercs As we didnt have the funds to buy the better larger merc in the end we starting using 7.5t box vans iveco.

they are ideal.just make sure there isn't any rust
Like all things made of mild steel you have to watch out for rusk. However these older vans seems to be made of thicker stuff maybe and whilst, of course they rust, they are not like the sprinter panel vans which are horrendous. I think the paint must be just one coat

How about a <Broken link removed>)
Nah I don't want lots of windows
The 7 seater one is ideal as only 2 sliding windows and a door that isnt a big noisy slider

Yeah most have some surface rust hete and there as they are work vans .... can deal with that ok as long asthe underside is solid and no holes anywhere.

No idea what they cost new but they certainly hold their value

Its getting one registered as a camper that might be difficult as i dont want all that crap dvla insists on

I want it discrete ....no graphics etc and no fixed tables ....

But with the available payload i can buikd a robust quality interior that isn't so Fragile.

The ideal would be a 612 as they are 2.9 diesel but if not then an 813, 814, 815 will do but they are 4.2 diesel

AFA DVLA is concerned these days you will only get "van with windows" anyway so the graphics and external appearance is a waste of time trying . Internal requirements are all thats needed for legal usage .

Yeah im not sure what taxation class it would currently be anyway as its a 7.5 tonne 7 seater crewvan

Ideally id have liked it to be phgv like the motorhome is for cheaper tax but not sure what it would be.

Probably wouldn't get motorhome insurance either so would have to explore that too.

Between 3500kg & 7500kg it will be PHG, £165 a year.
If DVLA class it as a Van with windows it doesn't affect the insurance providing it meats the basic requirements of a Motor Caravan it can be insured as a Motorhome.

I stopped at a place on the way here to have lunch and there were 2 brit vans there and one German , one of the brits was from cardiff andthe other Manchester .....sat chatting to them for about 45 minutes waiting on jackie catching up as she'd stopped off at a few shops on route....they had been on this one not very pleasant spot for 6 weeks ....

Anyway we were chatting for ages about all sorts of stuff then i went to make lunch ...as i did the woman from manchester came along behind me and says .... I didn't want to say in front of the other woman but if you stay try not to mention her husband ( there was 2 women and one man only ) ....turns out the woman from Cardiff's husband died here 4 weeks ago.....went for a walk and collapsed...they found him lying by the roadside. So she's waiting here for her son to come out to take the motorhome back to the uk.

Was all a bit awkward so we decided to move on

That's sad

Thats awful. It's the one thing I try not to think about when John and I are away. I do drive the van but don't know if I could cope with a long drive back home on my own if something like that happened. I wonder why she hasn't got a recovery service.
I've no idea ....i had so many questions going through my head i wanted to ask but decided it was too awkward so we just moved on

Sad but I'd rather go like that than wasting away in a care home.

If she is insured on the van breakdown won't do recovery.
I thought it was the van that was insured for recovery not an individual drive or named drived.

It is but if the partner is a named driver too then they would be expected to drive the vehicle home. Was one of the reasons I wasn't insured on Joe's car as I refused to drive it even though I could have done. Meant the insurance cost a bit more but better than being put in a situation where if something happened to him I'd be forced to drive it. Same with motorhome.

Yes,and that’s why the duchess isn’t insured on our Moho.

I've often wondered what would happen if I re-registered my van in the Uk? I converted it here & now it is legally a van with living accommodation . ie.e camper/motorhome. We have varying definitions & classes here.
they certainly wouldn't offer me "van with windows " as I have none in either side:xlaugh:

Both options are available with different providers. You can insure the van or the driver or both

Under 9 seats not considered to be a bus or minibus almost certain to be hgv "box van" so would become phgv for tax , still hgv for driving licence (C1) and if fitted inside for motorcaravan (not carrying anything not needed for use as such) class 4 for mot . (otherwise hgv plating and testing as a living van) Northernraider
