Sun sun sun here we come

10000 steps today most of which was the walk into town.
Just smiffy thanks for posting about the wok. Had a great meal this evening €65 including a bottle of white rioja and the taxi back to the van and they gave us a small bottle of red to drink tomorrow.

That’s good to hear … €65…😱 for two..? Correct me if I’m wrong €20 each person for the menu but drinks extra, did you have an expensive bottle…😳😉

Depends on the day and time you go, lunchtime it's €14.95 a head plus drinks, evening a lot more. We went at lunch time and it only cost us €32.00 including a tankard of beer and a Sprite.

The Grand Mundo on the main street, if just parking for the meal there's loads outside although we usually go in the side street on the opposite side, it's quiet enough to stay overnight there too if you've had too much plonk. We stay overnight near the port but it's not always possible to get in there and it's narrow so you have to tuck in well. Alternatively there are a few dead end road leading to the beach which you can stay on.

Oh, if you need water there's a tap on the decking area near the port and you can empty your toilet waste down the manhole behind the little toilet block, it usually has a bit of string on to lift it with.

We are now in the South Spain Villaricos, just woke up to wall to wall bright sunshine. Just off to the Sunday market. Where we buy our Lacoste shirts at 10€!!!!!!? And the best cooked chicken on a spit.

Colyboy

PS: I think this part of Spain is now full. Every where you look there hundreds of Motorhomes . Camp sites must of them full and charging high prices.

Most expensive single item from or night out was the €15 taxi back to the van.
Everywhere (that's not on the street)is rammed with vans.
Where we are there are 3 small cliff top parking areas. You could just about squeeze one more small pvc on.
Forgot to mention that I treated the van to a fill of super diesel @€1.43 and topped the gas for €0.98.
Wall to wall sunshine forecast for today and so far looking good.

If you zoom right in you can see our van.

Came across a bit of Roman hypocaust down on the seafront. Not a bad place to build you villa or maybe it was where the baths were. Got to give it to them they knew a bit about quality of life. 'what did the Romans ever do for us ?'

It's not much better down this end either with regard to park ups , the sun is beautiful though 😁, currently in Nerja.

Great market there.

I've noticed on Google earth that there is another wok restaurant near the lidl store, has anyone tried that one?

5 mile hike up into the hills today. Trying to walk off last night's meal. Probably shouldn't have stopped in the next village for coffee and cake. Most expensive yet €13.50 but it was exceeding good gateaux.

3 Feb 70mls run down to playa Vera via the petrol station near Aguilas offering dump facilities and Vera town for a bit of shopping. 1470mls total.
Wow how busy was it at the dump queuing up with several in front of us and about 10 more after us by time we left. Did think about the van wash but 2 waiting and it will only get dirty again.
There must be a centre to Vera town but bu§§ered if I could find it. Even parked up and walked and still couldn't find it.
We are at Quitapellenos with at least 100 other vans. Nice view of the bay with mountains behind but dirt and stone beach and the breeze is picking up the dust.
Been threatening to rain all morning but 15°C and the sun is trying to break through. Things can only get better.

Should have headed for the Mercadona.
We parked there and walked in to the laundromat.
€3 for wash and €3 for 30mins drying. Very good.

Anybody got ideas for Cadiz parking. Even considering a campsite. As everything is rammed wherever you go. Just grabbed the last spot at Loja at 2pm. Must have been at least 20 vans trying to park since

Fragle was hoping that inland would be easier for parking on our return journey.
Sounds as bad as the coast.

To be honest so far it is. We were in Vera on Thursday was advised not too go to nearby beaches as absolutely packed. Found a small car park by the road works just south of Vera. Couple of vans next thing rammed. Speaking with Dutch Germans etc they are as frustrated trying to find places.
We moved inland and went to a lovely new aire at Baza for the weekend. Great park up but not a lot going on. 13 spots full. We got the last one at midday. At least 4 vans every hr trying all weekend. Moved to Loja today same again and people are saying the same thing here.
Trouble is inland it is high up so much colder. Especially overnight.
I posted on another thread just over a week ago at IKEA Murcia 227 vans. Most saying they are there because they struggle at the coast
Going to push to Cadiz and see but might even turn around and head up. Will certainly not be coming back at this time next year I will leave it to April. Most of the continentals have said they are here until end of March so don’t expect an improvement

4 Feb 60 mls still heading south to Almeria. 1530mls to date.
Mild temp of about 12°C for an early start after rain overnight.
Couldn't believe the number of quarry trucks on the road - all off to fetch their first load of the day or get their desayuno.
Hugh car park in Almeria with loads of vans but no shortage of space thankfully. Not particularly found of carparks like this but beggars can't be choosers when most places are rammed and safety in numbers.
Pleasant 20°C for a walk along the prom to town for a menu del dia which wasn't all that but cheap enough.

Wouldn't want to let your towel slip getting changed on the beach with teeth like those.
Had to do something cultural so walked up to the old morrish castle.
IMG_20250204_135920.webp

Extensive renovations going on funded by the EU so free entry.
IMG_20250204_144620.webp

This is the Christian castle built on top of the morrish remains after the reconquest.
Bit of info for all the blokes who like shopping be in towns between 2 and 5 o'clock. Been in Spain for a couple of weeks and can't quite adjust to siesta time.
Forgot to mention the greenhouses you can see from the autovia (autopista only in the north) you have to see it to appreciate the sheer scale. Many square miles under plastic to provide the fruit and veg for northern Europe.

Famous last words!
Got back from town and noticed all the vans apart from ours and 1 or 2 others had gone.
Odd thinks i then checked p4n and several posts saying police had been round obviously while we were out and moved everybody on.
Rather than being roused in the middle of the night decided to move just in case.
Hay ho.

That’s a pity. Still , better now than midnight.

We stayed in Almeria day before yesterday no problems, police patrolled OK.

Found where all the other vans had moved to. Basically a grid of roads where new housing will be built near the hospital. Wide parking bays but never the less at the side of a road.
5 Feb easy run down to Almerimar marina 30mls. 1560 total. Autovia was very busy with everyone off to work because we left very early.
Only space left on the main parking was next to the toilet dump so that was a no no. The other park up around the other side of the marina (key from the harbour master) is ok but our view was a concrete wall back and front. managed to move a bit later near the entrance with a sea view through the security fence.
Not much of a town but a couple of nice beaches for a wander.
Debating how long to stay for given the difficulty of finding reasonable alternatives.
IMG_20250205_115650.webp

You can just about see the snow on the distance peaks. 20°C today shorts and t-shirts weather. Even had to find the Chinese shop for some short socks.

We didn't even bother with port parking just used service twice for free. Had a couple of nice nights here backed onto the grass so you can sit out.

Went for a 5mile stroll earlier. There is a nature reserve close by that we thought might be interesting but it turned out to be a swamp infested with mozies. Needless to say we didn't stay long. Eleni got bitten twice through a thin fleece and t-shirts. Most unusual they didn't go for me.
Instead we walked part of the long promenade and had a couple of drinks at a beach bar. First place we have been that nobody spoke English. (Yeh I know it's spain
but unusual never the less) seemed to have some difficulty believing we wanted a gin and tonic at 12:15.

Beautiful sunshine and in the distance very snowy mountains.

7 Feb 80mls to Nerja car park @ €15 a night.
1640mls total.
Mostly down the AP7 which is quite a feat of engineering through the coastal mountains. Hate to think what some of those hills did to my average mpg.
Won't be staying here more than a night at that price for a manky carpark and no services although it couldn't be more convenient for the town.
Had our best menu del dia so far this trip. €25 for the normal 3 courses and a drink which we considered excellent value.
On our postprandial wanderings we came across a little tapas place (hole in the wall) that seemed to be a cross between a wet fish shop and a bar with unbelievably cheap prices. Stuffed from lunch but made a note to return later then found it closes at 4 bu§§er!
IMG_20250207_140516.webp

Very pleasant in the sun but a chilly wind even at 18°C. Note the clouds gathering over yonder mountains but pushing on westward tomorrow in the hope of being in the sun for a few more days.
