Sun sun sun here we come

Few MH's have petrol engines? 🤔
We all have to drive onto forecourts to fill with diesel though, plenty of petrol there.
And then there's the possibility of encountering a petrol spillage on the road
Is it really worth the risk ?
I can admit to driving with the fridge on gas, but not something I'd do routinely and certainly wouldn't drive onto a forecourt with it lit.

If it were cold enough I would risk driving with the gas heating on as have hose and regulator with auto shutoff. You make a very good point about remembering to switch it off when (before) on a forecourt - easy to forget with potentially disastrous consequences .

Sat 25 Jan 90 mls (1145 total) down to the Valencia Camper park.
Overcast and threatening rain 10°C to start the day but it held off and the sun was out in the afternoon in Valencia.
€14 per night here (cheapest economy pitch - cheapskate!) with services and showers. 5 mins walk to metro station. Ticket purchased on arrival at centre €8 for 8 journeys will see tomorrow if it's in a day or any day.
Another huge city and very busy being Saturday. Feel like I am worn down to the knees or at least half way up my calfs.

We've overtaken you now on the road today as we passed Valencia and are overnighting in Denia before checking in at la Torreta site in Benidorm for the next 6 weeks. 🤗
Loads of funsters in Beni!

They certainly like their monumental gateways here in Valencia but only 2 left the others were swept away in the name of progress. Wonder they don't have wind turbines on top of these. We drove through another forest of the things on the way here.

And a couple of churches to be going on with if that's your thing. Vertually one on every corner exemplifying the power and wealth of the catholic church best not mention the inquisition eh.

Station booking office tiled interior. Best thing today. Had a look at the botanical gardens which at OAP rates was just about worth the visit.
Wandered around looking for lunch but everywhere was doing fast food and packed with locals. I can eat burger and pizza anytime in the UK and rearly do.
Eventually found somewhere and got the last table and came out €65 lighter.

Starter and this special rice dish (which waitresses told us was very authentic-ham and artichoke) and a bottle of wine.
Valencia - all right for a few hours but won't be rushing back.

Mon 27 Jan onwards to Gandia plus 65 mls. 1210 total.
Easy run down and pleasantly warm @ 23°C. With broken cloud cover.
Camper stop was full at 11 so driving around looking for an alternative - several of which looked rather dubious. Settled in the carpark by the uni buildings near Gandia port. While there are a few fishing boats I think 'port' would be stretching it bit. There are a few motorhomes parked front line at the port carpark but I suspect that are being tolerated rather than approved at this time of year.
Menu del dia with a cerveza and agua (really getting into the swing of it now) was €36 for 3 courses and coffee and was rather plesent.
Nothing worth a photo today.

Tue 28 Jan. Ambled down to Moraira this morning 40 miles and managed to avoid the autopista. 1250mls so far.
Wow was it windy last night even managed to wake me up at silly o'clock.
Cooler today but warm in the breaks in the cloud.
Tried a quiet spot for a park up and after negotiating a narrow residential area found it covered in builders rubble. Ended up in the main carpark with 100 other vans. Went for a walk and found a better spot virtually down on the beach but can't be ar$ed to move now for one night.
Nice little tourist town even has a 'Waitrose' where we bought a bottle of water and got directions to a proper supermarket.
Out for a drink or two later but don't expect to find a Spanish bar here.

We like Moraira, go out of the carpark in the centre towards the beach, cross the road and to the left facing the park are a row of bars, restaurants and shops.

Can’t remember the name but near the road end is a dutch guy who runs a great well populated bar with good beers.

If you wonder around Moraira has plenty of Spanish bars/restaurants

I’m enjoying your trip 👍

Did not notice the plaque by the statue earlier but apparently it's supposed to represent some arty farty interpretation of Japanese dance in Spain. Why?
At least the head is at just the right hight for all the local dogs to pi$$ on so it has some use.

I was curious and googled it.
It is a tribute to the ability of humans to recompose themselves after a collective tragedy.
The sculpture is a representation of a Japanese dance that was created after the bombing of Hiroshima.
Hence the connection between the meaning and the physical aspect of the sculpture.

There you go then - always been a philistine - don't understand the nuances of art.

Found a bar that was busy which turned out to be the 'british' local and they served a good pint of cerveza.
Most other places were almost empty but it was very early for the Spanish and I can't drink later in the evening any more.

pizza anytime in the UK
It was always the 'go to' when we first moved here 23 years ago basically because there was no other 'fast food'. Tailed off a bit now as we have moved upmarket :laughing:with McD's , KFC, burger king & we even have kebabs as well.

Once the big chains move in and the local population get hooked it reduces the low cost authentic eating options for everybody.
I guess if you are eating Spanish every day at home then the cravings for American fast food could be overwhelming.

29 Jan mosied on down to la Compello
50 miles via way of the autopista services to do water and a dump. 1300 MLS total so far.
Free spot on a bit of flat waste ground near the tram stop.
So off we go to benidorm only there's a work to rule and they are repairing the line so only got so far before having to get the replacement bus. Got there eventually and I have to say totally underwhelmed. More than 50 years since last there and I has changed a bit!
I know there are funsters who love the place but if I never see it again that will be soon enough for me.
Menu del dia was €37 one dish was exceptional but the rest was nothing special.

It’s funny how different people like different things. We love Valencia and can wander for days. Last trip we spent 3 days on our way home. One day we always like to catch the metro to the sea front and then after a walk along we then make our way up the old river bed to the city centre. Mind you that may well be ruined since the floods sadly. There are full sized sports pitches in it.

Hope you enjoy the next few places though.

30 Jan still at la Compello.
Tram to Alicante €5.60 return.
Recommend a visit to the indoor market great choice of fresh foods but how do so many stalls all selling the same thing survive.
Could have spent a fortune on all the tempting stuff but bought a couple of coffees instead.
Walked up through the narrow stepped streets towards the castle.
IMG_20250130_121548.webp

Never made it to the top but must have made it half way which was more than enough.
IMG_20250130_122354.webp

Lunch was calling - another menu €31 - my Paco (monkfish) was delicious the rest acceptable.
Found the famous basilica of st Mary but they wanted an entrance fee so that got knocked on the head.
IMG_20250130_143403.webp

Highlight of my day was the art museum (free) but I must say they did have a few paintings that were very good to my untrained eye together was masses of stuff that I wouldn't give house room although possibly worth millions.
Weather today was a balmy 21°C and the cutting wind had abbated. Forecast not so good.

Those Ba*****s at Lebara have cut my roaming data again and there help line chat is worse than useless.
We're ok in the van with the router and tiekom which has been faultless. Bought a voda SIM 60gb for €10 for 28 days which should be more than enough for the phone when out and about. It's amazing how annoying not having a working phone can be.

I must remind Nick to turn off WiFi after our trip to Panama so that he starts using his Lebara data before our Iceland trip. I remember you saying about this last year Berni but I’d forgotten. Thanks for the reminder . I’ve put it on my iPhone calendar. We’ve not had problem before but he now has a higher allowance so it would be a pain in the bum to get cut off in Iceland. Don’t think they’ll have cheap roaming sims from Chinese shops there!

No thankfully the old river bed and city centre survived the flood but the area south of Saler shopping mall ie V30 road was badly damaged. I have usually park up around there as I love Valencia.

31 Jan another 60mls down as far as los Alcazares 1360 total.
Slow journey down as avoided autopista accident but it might have still been quicker just to sit in the traffic.
15°C today overcast and spotty rain but the sun is trying to come out.
All the camper stops and campsites seem to be full but needed to service van and couldn't find anywhere for free so reluctantly paid over €5.
Spending an hour in the laundromat this afternoon as the washing was starting to mount up but a riveting experience it is not.
Had a few 1 & 2 euro coins but not enough and filled to see the change machine in the corner so had to go get coffee and cake for the extra coin .
Parked up on a bit of flat land near centre of village from p4n . Hopefully we won't get a knock later telling us to move.

It did eventually rain for a bit but then the sun managed to break through and a walk along the promenade to town beckoned.
IMG_20250131_165822.webp

View out across the lagoon with the last of the evening rays.
IMG_20250131_171136.webp

Some very well endowed mermaids filling a fisherman's net apparently. Someone seems to have nicked the net.

1 Feb short hop today down to Puerto de Mazarron 40mls 1400 total.
We had a peaceful night and no one came knocking but expect it might be different in summer as middle of residential area.
Bright and sunny today the temp on the dash with the mirror with the sensor in full sun 22°C. Probably about 18 really.
IMG_20250201_135046.webp

Our own bit of Mediterranean coast for a couple of days.
There must have been 100 vans parked up by Lidl but just down the coast we found this parking spot with just 4other vans.
Bit more of a trek into town but as they say use it or loose it. Currently resting up with a bottle of cava in anticipation of a few klms walk later.

Setting off on the 5th and will probably do an overnight at mazarron. Rather like the Chinese buffet there.
