The via verde to Santo Domingo was slightly uphill (according to the profile on WhatsApp
Can I just check if the WhatsApp profile of the bike route was a "wrong app" or how do you get the route and profile on it ?

Cheers

Generally use Wikiloc...but plan routes with Komoot and send via GPX file to Wikiloc..
If the route you refer too is on a via verde, I imagine it was a route that we may have followed...Does this answer your question?

I think so.
You said it was on a WhatsApp and think it might be an autocorrect from wikiloc.

Martin called into a farmacia for some Voltarol cream
I presume this is for your aches and pains, it doesnā€™t sit well with me as the strength can make me dizzy if used around the neck and shoulder area.
I can recommend this, itā€™s quite brilliant and available in tubes.

I think it was an autocorrect, although Martin sends me his planned route on WhatsApp. Possibly just my mistake.

Wikiloc is the app.

Last night was quiet. We were at the side valley mining museum parking rather than the bigger Langreo museum. Both places have motorhome parking and services.

Last night's parking

And the museum.
20240708084619_IMG_9746.JPG

This morning we dropped back down to Mercadona and then parked at the "other" mining museum motorhome area. We were alone there today. We set off for a ride. It began on cycleways, turning into the old mine railway, now paved.

Hydrangeas do well here!
20240708104816_IMG_9750.JPG

Eventually we set off up a minor road, climbing higher and higher. We could look back to the motorway and mountains beyond. All our ride was on a tarmac surface, of varying width roads, except for one short gravel and stone track.

We'd just climbed and descended when we saw a deer drinking from a puddle. We stopped. It headed towards us. Saw us, but didn't know what it was looking at, and stood for quite some time. I managed a few photos. This was my favourite šŸ’•
20240708112315_IMG_9757.JPG

We rode through lots of lovely hillside hamlets before dropping back down to the industrial valley, we could see from above, riding alongside the railway.

We arrived back to a coolish van (we'd left the Maxxfan running) but today is forecast to be mid 20's so wwe're ow parked (for the day only!) underneath the motorway at Mieres, a bit south of Oviedo. We'll move somewhere quieter for the night šŸ˜‚

There are lots of new motorhome parking areas around and about where we are. The problem is new ... means no shade. Out of hot weather, there's a great network of places to choose from. For us today, none of them seemed suitable.

Tonight's choice, though, looks good "on paper".

Well, we arrived at the official motorhome parking of Santa Eulalia de Morcin. It has a service point, and some marked motorhome bays, and general parking and picnic tables. Unfortunately, most of the town were also at that spot, taking advantage of a good day to do what they do best. Eating with friends and family.

Not being sure just how late this would go on for we decided to continue. We're now parked just north of Soto de Ribera, with its Central tƩrmica (power station). The views are lovely, if you can ignore the power station and nearby electricity grid.

It's cooling down now, and rain is forecast for tomorrow, so plans will be on hold until the morning.

Now.

The next village down from here BueƱo/GĆ¼eƱu has some interesting horreos.

This was taken from a review on Google maps.

"About 10' from Oviedo, a beautiful town (BueƱo / GĆ¼eƱo), with many many horreos in its streets. An authentic open-air ethnographic myseo. Out of the tourist guides, but a lively and natural, genuine and original place: don't miss it.

Despite having only a few inhabitants, BueƱo has earned the distinction of being an Exemplary Town, a recognition granted by the Prince of Asturias Foundation in 2012.

A treasure of traditional architecture:

What draws the most attention in BueƱo is its impressive set of hĆ³rreos, typical Asturian buildings intended for the storage of grain and other agricultural products. The town has dozens of granaries, some of them dating back to the 16th century, which makes it one of the largest groups of preserved granaries in Asturias.

Beyond its architecture, BueƱo offers an interesting walk through Asturian history and traditions. The town has an Interpretation Center of the HĆ³rreo, where you can learn about the function and construction of these structures."

If it's not too wet in the morning I think a trip down the road to have a look might be on the agenda. The photos of the horreos look very interesting.

Quiet night. Good conversation with young local guy , who like Judith said lives in the States....he was pleased to hear that we really appreciate our adopted country, it's culture and beauty...now we are in Salas, still in Asturias at a new Camperstop.... Spoke with Spanish guy in next van, who, as I guessed was from Madrid....I told him that we are from Murcia, he was shocked to hear that I am English..šŸ„“ suppose he was being polite..
Off for lunch in town...the normal Asturian winter meals are out...we need something much more lighter....let's see....
Of course using Google gives us an idea of restaurants rating, how accurate these are is up to the individual's choosing..only 21Ā°c as a given guess today....and as we are in black tarmac, will be greatfully accepted....will ride from here tomorrow before relocating to pastures new....or old....šŸ¤”šŸ˜ƒšŸ‘šŸ‡ŖšŸ‡¦

We decided to walk "down" the 1 km to the village of horreos. All the time we were aware we'd have to walk back "up". We don't "do" much walking at the moment, spending hours on the bikes instead.

Even so, it didn't take long to walk around the tiny village, so we were happy to have had a bit extra exercise.

(I don't know if my camera lens has a problem. The darker photos have marks on them. It could have been the damp conditions this morning. I've given it a good clean anyway).

You mentioned the hydrangeas there. We camped on a site which was full of them with heads the size of footballs! We asked the owners if we could pick some heads to take home and dry out. They looked beautiful and still do if a little shrunken and faded after a few years here šŸ˜œ

We stayed on a site, years ago, somewhere up in Galicia. The hedges separating the pitches were Hydrangeas. It must look lovely when they're in full bloom.

We walked into Salas for lunch. I didn't manage many photos. It was quite busy as the market was just wrapping up.

So just a few. One of our Perigrino Plato Combinado. We could have shared one. The chicken is in our fridge for tomorrow šŸ¤£.

We managed to buy a 5 ltr wine box on the way back to the van. Not many places have boxes here, but they're better for travelling with.

We drove 40 something easy kilometres to our present spot on the coast. We're at San Pedro de la Ribera parked on a grassy field, opened up specially for motorhomes, for a ā‚¬1 a day donation (the girl that stopped us on the way in made sure we donated šŸ¤£). We'd have paid ā‚¬5 without a problem.

The photo of our van is an old one. We're now turned the other way just across the grass. The sun's come out directly on our fridge, so we've moved.

We haven't even seen the beach yet.

Because.... we went for a walk. It was a bit of a disaster. The brambles and Gorse on some tracks were so thick it made, even us, turn back. We were following a route, posted by many people. Not at all suitable! We both have lots of bramble scratches on our legs šŸ¤¬

A good bit, before it got bad.
20240710115449_IMG_9801.JPG

We retraced our steps and headed into a village and returned a different way. No nice views were seen in the making of this walking route šŸ˜‚

Some nice flowers, a funnel Web spider nest, and a map of a route ...

We're going out down to the beach area later, before football!!

More interesting to me are our travels here. This morning we had showers, that then left, so we went out for a "Martin planned route"

We rode up, and above our parking, and I got photos I didn't get on our way here.

20240711102306_IMG_9824.JPG
20240711102145_IMG_9823.JPG

And then we rode through another parking area. With a young girl taking money, as here. Martin asked about motorhomes parking ... no problem.

The view back, from above.
20240711104531_IMG_9825.JPG
20240711110019_IMG_9827.JPG

We then headed towards Cudillero. We stopped, because Martin had spotted a cyclist stopped at a Mirador. It turned out he was a German, drying out his tent. He'd cycled from Germany, through France, Spain, Portugal, Spain and heading back home through France again. He'd taken 6 months out from working.

20240711110641_IMG_9829.JPG

Meanwhile I took a photo of the coast, then took a few for a Spanish family, all together.
20240711110635_IMG_9828.JPG

We then rode through the, very busy with tourists šŸ¤£, village. We stopped to see that the first parking area is now official motorhome parking.

The village was too busy to take photos, but nice to visit if anyone wants to stay there.

Once we'd escaped, we climbed high, above the motorway.

20240711113853_IMG_9830.JPG

We then had a, not very nice descent down a wet, stony, steep, forest track šŸ¤¬.

After that, though we had a lovely ride back through some tiny hamlets, on narrow, but paved, tracks/roads.

20240711123015_IMG_9832~2.JPG

20240711122502_IMG_9831.JPG

Back at base (for another night, all for ā‚¬1) I got lunch ready.

Martin, sitting on our step (not camping !!) found a new friend. A motorhome across from us had left their cat out on a leash. It had wrapped the leash around the wheel. Martin to the rescue ...

Exactly....well done Peavy and well done Google...
HRT....is of course Hormone Replacement Therapy...however in my personal situation its is a EWD.. Emergency Wound Dressing or FD Field dressing for those with military history...
Band Aid is a product name that some countries have adopted as the name for a plaster or light wound dressing..
Unfortunately I was attacked a couple of days ago.....by Spanish undergrowth whilst out on my bike....I don't have HRT in case anyone thought differently..or just my sense if humour šŸ¤šŸ˜ƒšŸ˜ƒšŸ˜ƒšŸ˜ƒšŸ˜ƒšŸ‘šŸ‡ŖšŸ‡¦

We left San Pedro de la Ribera after another quiet night. All for ā‚¬1.

We drove to a place called Trevias which has mixed parking, a service point and a Dia supermarket. We thought we might stay there, but ....

Whilst doing the services we were approached. By a lovely woman, with her mum, from a car that pulled alongside.

She asked about motorhomes. We ended up talking for 30 minutes or so, quickly switching to English, because she lives in Brighton. She had a look inside our van. We told her there are ones that are much nicer inside nowadays, but she still liked what she saw. She's saving up!

I walked towards Dia, but found a small supermarket to buy some beers and puddings for Martin. It was drizzling.

We decided that an afternoon in a carpark in the rain wasn't good, so we headed to the lighthouse (Faro Cabo Busto), which was always on our agenda.

It's where we met Stef last year.

How lucky are we that the only blue sky is right over Busto?

So, we are here for a few days šŸ˜Š. With an excellent phone signal for a football match on Sunday. It's pretty much paradise!

(Last year I had my cracked ribs so I couldn't ride. Hopefully we can do a couple of nice rides from here).

Last year Martin got a fish hook through his arm. I didn't have the strength to cut it, so he got a German guy to do it. But, I then had to push the hook out through his flesh. Not nice. Here's hoping we don't have anything similar to navigate this year šŸ˜‚
