Summer in Spain (again)

Last year Martin got a fish hook through his arm. I didn't have the strength to cut it, so he got a German guy to do it. But, I then had to push the hook out through his flesh. Not nice. Here's hoping we don't have anything similar to navigate this year 😂
I wasn't even fishing at the time, it was a rogue piece of line with a barbed hook lurking in the garage...barbed hooks do not come out once in... except taking a chunk of flesh with them...so it was cut the eye off and pass the rest of the hook through the skin, was quite deep, but a medical centre would have done the same, perhaps when localised and with a more sterile approach....lots of antiseptic and a light dressing and I was good to go... Silly me...🤭

It's a beautiful sunny morning.

Guess what?

We're going out on our bikes exploring 🚴‍♀️🚴

The guy from the van next to us has just come back from spear fishing with his catch.

I wonder if he'll share it??

Yep done it many times, more painful coming out then going in…😆

I can state that I've experienced it twice...once whilst casting...and last year rummaging in a box in the vans garage...as full time Firefighter for 30 years, I have removed various objects from humans and animals and removed humans and animals from various objects and serious situations...but removing objects from oneself is a totally different scenario....🤔😀😀🥴

No fish was offered. They're still here so there's still time 🤣

We had a ride of different parts. It started along the coast to the Playa de Cueva and then we turned back on the next bit when it got wet, muddy and overgrown.

We rode down to a secluded bay from where we could see our lighthouse, and my camera saw our van even.

We entered Luarca via the main road and we got stuck in a traffic jam for a "Scooter Rally". The police on duty made us wait. We were joined in the queue by two Spanish road cyclists who asked if we were German (again!) Once knowing we are English they had a bit of banter with Martin about football. They kept asking if we could continue, so we got on our way quickly.

Some of the scooters didn't make the climb 🤣. Been there done that in the past when we had a 50 cc scooter on the back of the last motorhome.

We stopped to look at the church and then we got stuck again when the rally caught us up, so we made a detour from our original route.

We ended up riding a bit further than planned, but it was nice to be out.

What a BIG day today for our adopted country, first Wimbledon then Berlin....
For the tennis....I suppose we should follow our Carlos... he's a Murcia guy, a nice guy and he's got a big match today...but he did it last year, and why not this.
Then there is Berlin this evening, England in a major final....I shall be watching this to the very end...not like in 1966, I had to do my duty and make my evening paper round...the streets where I lived in Birmingham were .empty, everyone watching in their homes...just me out there...I believe I heard cheers as the final goal was scored...but I didn't experience it, as it happened...I got home and it was all over...I missed it...
Long before Catch up TV was thought of, black and white also....never got to see those final goals go in....if only they had been recorded and replayed, so I could see them...🤔😂😂
May the best team win without any controversy we can reflect on for the next 56 years...

Today we had a lovely ride. A mix of minor roads and a few easy tracks. The only bit that got away from this was a narrow grassy path around some fields, along the coast. We then rode past some trees. Which way does the wind blow here??? To a parking area for a lovely Ermita with a couple of horreos (good for parking bikes).

We eventually rode to the town where we last did our services, but we came back on our bikes in a totally different way.

It was brilliant. We saw lots of small bars preparing for tonight, with bunting and flags.

Everyone we saw on our way had a cheery welcome, and even better, a huge smile.

We've got back, put the bikes away, showered, had lunch, spoken 0to my mum, and now Martin's watching tennis. Our local, Murcian, lad is doing well 😊😊😊

That's a shame but no-one can claim they've not been told!

We're happy that we can park, legally.

We've done the services at a motorhome area next to an Eroski supermarket that has a laundrette.

I went with the washing and got an empty machine. I then went round the shop for some provisions. I had to call Martin to come to collect the shopping. He moved the clothes into a dryer and took the shopping back whilst I waited for the dryer to do its thing.

All good for another week or so.

It was too warm there to stay, although lots were, so we've moved 10km further along the coast to a parking area with shade. It's parking for a dog friendly beach so we're watching where we walk 🤣 although it doesn't seem bad, so far.

We'll walk down to the beach later.

enjoying your thread and rides..
and despite the unsettled weather even out there, you're having a great summer..
p.s. did the chap share his fish in the end, it certainly was a big 'un..?

.
No he didn't....but in reality, if we wanted one like his, I would go and catch one myself, and perhaps, get another one too.
The weather isn't an issue for us...if we want hot sunny weather, stay home.....it's cloudy today...breezy also.....but incredibly pleasant...

Thanks Toni, we're having a great time. We're happy with the weather. If we wanted hot sun we could stay in Murcia.

The guy was French. Even though we don't think he knew we were English 😂, he didn't offer us any fish.

Well, I wish this sign was in every municipal área de autocaravanas in Spain where camping behaviour (as in most of municipal áreas) is not allowed.
The rules, sometimes are not clear enough, and some take advantage of this, despite (sometimes) going against common sense.
As you said, I'm happy if I can stay and do the services.
Well done, Navia.

Exactly....well done Peavy and well done Google...
HRT....is of course Hormone Replacement Therapy...however in my personal situation its is a EWD.. Emergency Wound Dressing or FD Field dressing for those with military history...
Band Aid is a product name that some countries have adopted as the name for a plaster or light wound dressing..
Unfortunately I was attacked a couple of days ago.....by Spanish undergrowth whilst out on my bike....I don't have HRT in case anyone thought differently..or just my sense if humour 🤭😃😃😃😃😃👍🇪🇦
I was about to say that you need to review the brand as they are now transparent to get over the problem of skin coloured! Trust me to take things literally. Plus the location was all wrong.

We've been down to the dog beach. Quite a few dogs down there, with owners. We almost got ourselves one. An old chocolate lab, by the name Bella. She was with a guy going fishing and his other two labs, a cream one and a black one. She eventually managed to join them on the rocks.

She was very slow going down the steps, I hate to think what she'll be like coming back up.

Very windy at yesterday's daytime location, so a decision was agreed on to move...so. on P4N the train station, (Single line) was chosen as a suitable overnighter...it's actually signed as MH and municipal parking ..all free...so we parked and slept well....
It's still early, but already the workers are about...some taking the train, some driving heavy vehicles on the road....
Today's temperature suits us and I've just used my Kamoot app to plan our ride...part coastal and part hills...we need a stopover for tonight...not to far jumartoo is currently searching on P4N...Have a good day folks...😃🇪🇦

Riding again. What else? Is it getting too boring???

We had another good ride. It started along the coast, passing an area we "almost" stayed on last year. Bad Internet on a dull day made us change our minds, but there were others there then. Not this year, it was totally empty and the weather is better
🤔

We then dropped down into a lovely fishing village of Puerto de Viavélez. No tee-shirt shops here
👍
👍
.
We rode back out through a village with the road lined with bikes, all types, shapes, and sizes. I haven't yet found out why.

Some more riding took us to a lovely viewpoint and then we turned inland. We climbed up on a minor road, and then descended on a tiny, concrete, road. It was so steep I couldn't take any photos, I needed both hands on the brakes.

We got back safely and then we drove to our present parking area. The official motorhome area at a "huge" (for us) town of Vegadeo.

The house across from last night's parking was pristine, and so was the garden. It even had a flowery bike. I sneaked a photo with my zoom.

We had a good night here last night, quiet enough for us to stay another night, even though a town site isn't normally for us.

We rode from here today, and, although the camera was given less work to do, we thoroughly enjoyed our ride. One short section (on the actual Camino route) turned out to be the only bad bit. It was wet and muddy.

The rest. Well I've said it all before. Small roads, through small hamlets/villages, with smiling, happy, locals.

Tomorrow, hopefully, we're going to another lighthouse location
🫰

Looking back to the town, amd our parking. We're behind the trees!

Anyway ... we're now at the lighthouse above Ribadeo. The Faro de Illa Pancha.

It's very lovely here. New parking, newly surfaced road, with green cycle route, cut grass. A young guy from the ayuntamiento (local council) picking up any rubbish (a bit disappointing to see him picking up some toilet paper from just behind us. He didn't pick up the poo, and who can blame him). Martin spoke to him, mainly about whether the barbecues can be used, he answered in the affirmative. So our chicken and trout have been cooked.

Trout eaten for lunch. The chicken will be used tomorrow, unless, of course, the happy fisherman comes back with the goods!

There's a tourist train from Ribadeo. Not very busy.

I think motorhome parking may come under scrutiny eventually, although the parking spaces are big, and it's not overused atm.
